In this study, the essential oils from lemon (Citrus aurantifolia) peels were extracted using hydrodistillation and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation and their volatile compositions were compared via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MHD) achieved the oil yield of 2.48% at microwave power of 470W and extraction time of 60 min. The yield obtained using conventional hydrodistillation (HD) was 2.2% at 90 min at 120 °C. GC-MS analysis revealed a total of 17 and 8 components existing in the oil samples produced by MHD and HD methods respectively. The main components shared by both samples were limonene, α-pinene, β-pinene, β-cymene, ocimene, and sabinene. Overall, these results suggest that MHD could produce lemon (Citrus aurantifolia) peels essential oil at a higher yield within a shortened period of time as compared to the traditional HD, thus it could be used as an alternative for HD to reduce costs of the extraction process.

In this study, the properties of hip implant material and lubricants were examined using a pin on disc apparatus, to compare the effect of metal-on-metal （MoM） contact with a bio-lubricant derived from palm oil. The behaviour of the lubricants was observed during the experiments, in which a hemispherical pin was loaded against a rotating disc with a groove. A titanium alloy was used to modify the hemispherical pin and disc. Before and after the experiments, the weight and surface roughness were analysed, to detect any degradation. The results were compared according to the different kinematic viscosities. The wear rates and level of friction with each lubricant were also examined. The lubricant with the highest vis- cosity had the lowest frictional value. Therefore, develop- ing suitable lubricants has the potential to prolong the lifespan of prostheses or implants used in biomedical applications. The experiments collectively show that lubricants derived from palm oil could be used as efficient bio-lubricants in the future.

In this research, microwave-assisted hydro-distillation and Response Surface Methodology were selected for optimizing factors affecting the yield of essential oil from Citrus reticulate Blanco peels. This combined process was successfully modeled and optimized using a Box–Behnken design with response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of the material and water ratios, extraction time and microwave power on the extraction essential oils, efficiency of Citrus reticulata Blanco Peel were investigated. The optimal conditions for the Citrus reticulate Blanco peels oils yield were found to be a material and water ratios were 3.1:1mL/g, extraction time was 91.24 min, microwave power at 478 (W). Furthermore, analysis of variance indicated that the proposed quadratic model successfully interpreted the experimental data with coefficients of determination of the predicted R2 of 0.9909 concurred with the adjusted R2 of 0.9826. A confirmation test of the optimal conditions verified the validity of the model, yielding an essential oil efficiency of 5.5

Essential oils (EOs) are a complex element consisting of dozens to hundreds of compounds different. The essential characteristics of essential oils are governed by the main components of essential oils including oxygen monoterpen, hydrocarbon monoterpene, oxygen sesquiterpene, carbonylic compound, phenol, fatty acids and esters, which determine the primary aroma of essential oil. Kaffir lime EOs (Citrus hystrix DC; Rutaceae) is increasingly being used as a flavoring in perfume, cosmetic industries and food. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to extract essential oils from Kaffir lime to determine the components that create this fragrance. Kaffir lime EOs is obtained from 100g of fresh citrus peels of Citrus hystrix DC by microwave extraction method in 60 minutes and 450W power. The quality of Kaffir lime peel oil is assessed based on the chromatography of the compound present by the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Shell analysis led to the identification of twenty-six compounds that make up 100% of the essential oil and yield is 6%. The main compounds in kaffir lime shells such as β-pinene (45.206%), α-pinene (2.365%), D-limonene (18.358%), citronellal (17.745%), terpinen-4-ol (4.9964%).

Venomous snake bite is common poisonous accident and important medical problem around the world. The snake anti-venom is only type-specific protection to each venom type that was used to immunize. In this study, the chicken egg yolk (IgY) antibodies against the Vietnamese cobra Naja Naja venom was developed and evaluated in in-vitro (ELISA and SDS-PAGE) and in-vivo (hen and mice immunization). In particularly, the LD50 of the Vietnamese cobra Naja Naja venom was determined at 1.46 g kg−1 body weight of the Swiss mice. The ISA Brown layers of 16 to 18-week-old were immunized intramuscularly with the Vietnamese cobra Naja Naja venom at 0.5 mg kg−1 body weight of the layers. The specific anti-venom antibodies were presented in both serum and egg yolk at 14 days, reached to highest antibody titer at 49 to 56 days and lasted up to 111 days post-immunization. The IgY antibodies purified from the egg yolk revealed potential neutralization and protection of Vero cells and Swiss mice from toxicity of the Vietnamese cobra Naja Naja venom. To the best of our knowledge, this study result is the first cobra snake anti-venom developed in laying hens against the Vietnamese cobra Naja Naja venom. Further study is needed to whether this specific IgY anti-venom antibodies can be used as an antibody therapy for treatment of venomous snake bites in the future.

Turmeric oil has many uses in the field of medicine and food. There are many methods of extracting essential oils from plants. However, every traditional method has limitation regarding the heat transfer, time or quality of the oil obtained. In this study, the combination of microwave extraction and response surface methodology are used to extract turmeric oil and optimize the factors that influence the extraction process. The results showed that optimal influencing factors such as the ratio of water to the raw materials were 2.99:1 (mL/g), the microwave power used at 456.60 (W) for the extraction time was 102.43 (min) for the essential oil yield of 0.95 (%) with 100 % reliability

Soursop, due to its nutritional properties, is gaining attention in the food and beverage industry. Soursop nectar, as a beverage, provides vitamins, antioxidants, and energy. Studies on how additives could alter sensory properties of the product might satisfy the needs of consumers for products with better visual qualities. The mixing of Pectin (PT), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and xanthan gum (XG) directly affects the viscosity in the nectar. Optimization by response surface methodology showed that PT-CMC and XG-CMC interactions were significant at <0.05. The coefficient of determination of the model was high (R2 = 0.9847). The lowest viscosity of the soursop nectar was 70 mPa.s, achieved by following contents of additives: 0.01378% of PT, 0.0071963% of CMC and 0.0051443% of XG.

Tea is considered to be a product that brings health benefits. The drying process showed high efficiency in processing this product. However, the process of moisture is not qdequately controlled, resulting in wasted energy in the drying process. The dynamics of the drying process of soursop leaves and the effect of temperature on the process speed were assessed in the present study. Five models (Newton, Henderson and Pabis, Page, Logarithmic, and Weibull) were used to determine the suitable drying dynamic at temperatures of 50°C, 55°C, 60°C and 65°C. The mechanism of the processing is based on the principle of dehumidification of the convection drying system with hot air, which caused the moisture inside the material to move outwards. The results showed that the drying temperature is directly proportional to the drying rate of the process, as the increase in drying temperaturefrom 50°C to 65°C produced the link breaking energy and heating thatleads to evaporation. Dehumidification rate depends on the temperature, change in Deff value as 1 x (RTa) -1 from from 9,264 95 × 10−9 m/s2 to 9.76485 × 10−9 m/s2. Page model with determination coefficient R2> 0.99 was found to be the most suitable model for experimental data.

Food diversification is increasingly approaching customer needs. Tea processing field brings a lot of health. The present study has mixed the soursop leaves tea with stevia, chrysanthemum, rose, and licorice to produce an effective mixture with improved biological activities and flavors. Survey results showed that high TPC content was present in chrys (4.01 ± 0.03 mg/g DW) entailed an increasing concentration when mixed and vice versa. In most mixtures, free-radical scavenging by DPPH and ABTS in sousop leaves tea mixtures remained unchanged (ranging from 0.5-1.5 mg/g DW). The color brightness value in CIE system is highly dependent on soursop leaves tea (34.52 ± 0.71 in L*). These findings provide helpful insight to combinations of tea and common herbs for daily use. Further studies on toxicology and health benefits of these tea combinations would be on demand.
