A new methodology is presented in this paper for resource management in a metacomputing environment using a hierarchy of homogeneous agents that has the capability of service discovery. The PACE [6] tools are used to provide quantitative data concerning the performance of sophisticated applications running on local high performance resources. At metacomputing level, an agent hierarchy is used to model the resource management system, and the implementation of resource management, scheduling, and allocation can be abstracted to the processes of service advertisement and service discovery. Different optimisation strategies can be used to improve the performance of the agent system. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2001.

The overall popularity of the Internet has helped e-learning become a hot method for learning in recent years. Over the Internet, learners can freely absorb new knowledge without restrictions on time or place. Many companies have adopted e-learning to train their employees. An e-learning system can make an enterprise more competitive by increasing the knowledge of its employees. E-learning has been shown to have impressive potential in e-commerce. At present, most e-learning environment architectures use single computers or servers as their structural foundations. As soon as their work loads increase, their software and hardware must be updated or renewed. This is a big burden on organizations that lack sufficient funds. Thus, in this study we employ a kind of Grid Computing technology, called the "Data Grid" to integrate idle computer resources in enterprises into e-learning platforms, thus eliminating the need to purchase costly high-level servers and other equipment.

A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP),as the most common form of genetic variation,has been widely studied to help analyze the possible association between diseases and *** gain more information,SNPs on a single chromosome are usually studied together,which constitute a *** haplotypes from biological experiments is usually very costly and time-consuming,which causes people to develop efficient methods to determine haplotypes from the computational *** problems and algorithms about haplotypes have been proposed to reduce the cost of studies of disease *** general,four categories of problems are widely researched:the haplotype assembly problem,the haplotype inference problem,the haplotype block partition problem,and the haplotype tagging SNP selection *** former two problems have been well reviewed by many researchers,whereas the latter two have not been comprehensively surveyed to our *** this paper,we try to make a detailed introduction to the four problems,especially the latter two.

Solving constrained traveling salesman problems by genetic algorithms

Three kinds of constrained traveling salesman problems (TSP) arising from application problems, namely the open route TSP, the end-fixed TSP, and the path-constrained TSP, are proposed. The corresponding approaches based on modified genetic algorithms (GA) for solving these constrained TSPs are presented. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the algorithm for the open route TSP shows its advantages when the open route is required, the algorithm for the end-fixed TSP can deal with route optimization with constraint of fixed ends effectively, and the algorithm for the path-constraint could benefit the traffic problems where some cities cannot be visited from each other.

Edge-based federated learning (EFL) is a solution for personalized applications. It addresses the limitations of cloud-based consumer service systems, such as data privacy and network latency. To further enhance the EFL system’s ability to protect data privacy, differential privacy (DP) is introduced. It is crucial to motivate high-quality collaboration among participants for optimal performance of the DP-EFL system. Researchers primarily focus on efficient learning algorithms, optimized resource scheduling, and user-oriented incentive mechanisms. Existing research exhibits notable limitations in modeling and analyzing the heterogeneity of resource costs (e.g., communication costs), particularly failing to comprehensively account for the additional costs imposed by participants’ privacy protection mechanisms‌. To address this gap, we propose a novel market transaction model based on Stackelberg game theory. This framework integrates incentive-driven reward allocation mechanisms to rigorously investigate the collaborative behaviors and strategic interactions between edge nodes (ENs) and the cloud server (CS)‌. We incorporate privacy costs into the multidimensional costs of participants with privacy metric, and based on this, derived collaboration strategies between ENs and CS, thus solving the Stackelberg game problem by theoretical analysis. Furthermore, numerical experiments validated the rationality of our proposed model, the impact of strategies on the performance of collaborators, and the advantages over other incentive mechanisms. © 2025 IEEE. A continuum analysis is developed of electric field coupling to a charge-free fluidized bed of polarizable particles, with the electric field at an arbitrary angle to the gas flow. The electric force density and stress tensor is derived from the principle of virtual work and includes polarization and electrostriction forces but neglects Coulombic free charge forces. Effective medium theory for various particle structures derives the effective bed permittivity as a function of particle voidage and is used with the energy method to derive the electric. force density acting on the particles. Necessary force-free boundary conditions at the top free surface of the bed are developed. A linear stability analysis is used to find the conditions for electric field stabilization. Experiments with Rochelle salt show elimination of bubbling with collinear electric field and flow but never complete stabilization with crossed field and flow as predicted by the analysis. There is qualitative agreement between the stability analysis and measurements. Numerical differences are attributed to particle viscosity, which was not included in the fluid model.

Spatial transcriptomics (ST) enables studying spatial organization of gene expression within tissues, offering insights into the molecular diversity of tumors. Recent methods have demonstrated the capability to disaggregate this information at subspot resolution by leveraging both expression and histological patterns. Elucidating such information from histology alone presents a significant challenge, but if solved can enable spatial molecular analysis at cellular resolution even where ST data is not available, reducing study costs. This study explores integrating single-cell histological and transcriptomic data to infer spatial mRNA expression patterns in colorectal cancer whole slide images. A cell-graph neural network algorithm was developed to align histological information extracted from detected cells with single cell RNA, facilitating the analysis of cellular groupings and gene relationships. We demonstrate that single-cell transcriptional heterogeneity within a spot could be predicted from histological markers extracted from cells detected within it. Our model exhibited proficiency in delineating overarching gene expression patterns across whole-slide images. This approach compared favorably to traditional computer vision methods which did not incorporate single cell expression during the model training. This innovative approach augments the resolution of spatial molecular assays utilizing histology as sole input through co-mapping of histological and transcriptomic datasets at the single-cell level. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS– science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Adaptive control using interval Type-2 fuzzy logic for uncertain nonlinear systems

A new adaptive Type-2 （T2） fuzzy controller was developed and its potential performance advantage over adaptive Type-1 （T1） fuzzy control was also quantified in computer simulation. Base on the Lyapunov method, the adaptive laws with guaranteed system stability and convergence were developed. The controller updates its parameters online using the laws to control a system and tracks its output command trajectory. The simulation study involving the popular inverted pendulum control problem shows theoretically predicted system stability and good tracking performance. And the comparison simulation experiments subjected to white noige or step disturbance indicate that the T2 controller is better than the T1 controller by 0--18%, depending on the experiment condition and performance measure.

Sparse approximate inverse (SAI) techniques have recently emerged as a new class of parallel preconditioning techniques for solving large sparse linear systems on high performance computers. The choice of the sparsity pattern of the SAI matrix is probably the most important step in constructing an SAI preconditioner. Both dynamic and static sparsity pattern selection approaches have been proposed by researchers. Through a few numerical experiments, we conduct a comparable study on the properties and performance of the SAI preconditioners using the different sparsity patterns for solving some sparse linear systems. © 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
