The proliferation of the high-speed network and powerful workstation has narrowed the performance gap between workstation clusters and *** draws significant attention of using Network of Workstations(NOW) environment as parallel computing platform. Message Passing Interface(MPI) has been proposed as a standard for interprocess communication in message-passing parallel ***, it has language bindings for C,C++ and *** the Java technology appears to be able to unify the exist heterogeneous environment into one,we have implemented MPI in Java to exploit its usage in parallel computing *** this paper,we discuss the effectiveness of implementing MPI using *** also present some experimental results of our system called Java Message Passing Interface(JMPI).

Industry widely employs the two-dimensional videoconferencing system as a long distance communication tool, but current limitations such as its tendency to misrepresent eye contact prevent it from becoming more widely adopted. We are exploring the possibility of a three-dimensional videoconferencing system for future interactive streaming of point cloud data, and present the preliminary research results in this paper. We have tested thus far with one sender and one receiver, using pre-recorded data for the sender. The sender, encircled by high-definition cameras, stands and speaks in a room. A cluster of computers reconstructs each frame of the camera images into a 3D point cloud and streams it across a high-speed, low-latency network. On the receiving end, a splat-based Tenderer employs a new algorithm to efficiently resample the points in real-time, maintaining a user-specified frame rate. Parallel hardware projects onto multiple screens while head tracking equipment records the viewer's movements, allowing the receiver to view a stereoscopic 3D representation of the sender from multiple angles. We can combine these visuals with appropriate use of multiple audio channels to forge an unparalleled virtual experience. This next step towards immersive 3D videoconferencing brings us closer to empowering worldwide collaboration between research departments. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper,an extended Kalman filter（EKF） based training and data cleaning algorithm for neural network which can simultaneously train a neural network with good generalization and recover the original data from noise will be *** with the standard recursive least square（RLS） training approach,it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can have a better generalization *** also present in this paper a parallel algorithm for the implementation of this EKF based training method onto a SIMD *** a n processors SIMD machine together with this parallel algorithm,the time required for one-step update can be reduced by an order of n,where n is the total number of hidden units,compared with using single sequential machine.

The Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) model has been widely used in multi-core clusters as an alternative to MPI. Among the widespread use is Unified Parallel C (UPC). Previous research has shown that UPC performance is comparable with MPI, however in certain cases UPC require hand-tuning techniques such as pre-fetching and privatized pointers-to-shared to improve the performance. In this paper we reviews, evaluate and analyze the performance pattern between UPC Naive, UPC optimize and MPI on two different multi-core clusters architecture. We focus our study using matrix multiplication as the benchmark and perform our experimental on two distributed memory machine;Cray XE6 with Gemini interconnects and Sun Cluster with Infiniband interconnects. We provide analysis on each core execution time to understand the pattern of communication for both machines. We also demonstrate the gaps between naive and optimized are depends on the compiler with its associate distributed memory machine. We also observed unnecessary optimization for certain programs related to HPC architecture and compiler.

Multi-objective optimization (MOO) has become an influential framework for various machine learning problems, including reinforcement learning and multitask learning. In this paper, we study the black-box multi-objective optimization problem, where we aim to optimize multiple potentially conflicting objectives with function queries only. To address this challenging problem and find a Pareto optimal solution or the Pareto stationary solution, we propose a novel adaptive stochastic gradient algorithm for black-box MOO, called ASMG. Specifically, we use the stochastic gradient approximation method to obtain the gradient for the distribution parameters of the Gaussian smoothed MOO with function queries only. Subsequently, an adaptive weight is employed to aggregate all stochastic gradients to optimize all objective functions effectively. Theoretically, we explicitly provide the connection between the original MOO problem and the corresponding Gaussian smoothed MOO problem and prove the convergence rate for the proposed ASMG algorithm in both convex and non-convex scenarios. Empirically, the proposed ASMG method achieves competitive performance on multiple numerical benchmark problems. Additionally, the state-of-the-art performance on the black-box multi-task learning problem demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed ASMG method. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. Faceted search on webpages needs exact ***,it is difficult to extract facets exactly from webpages because the webpages are unstructured and lack of facet ***,facet extraction is a key to faceted *** paper proposed a method of extracting facets automatically from unstructured webpages to improve the faceted search on *** Multidimensional Semantic Index (MDSI) of webpages is constructed by mining all kinds of semantic relations among the words from webpages,which creates a semantic-rich index for *** MDSI,the differently dimensional semantic indexes are bridged by mining the semantic mapping between *** on the MDSI of webpages,the facets are extracted by analyzing semantic mapping relations in *** validate the effect of the proposed method,two datasets are constructed and the experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and comparatively precise.

Inelastic quantum mechanical tunneling of electrons across plasmonic tunnel junctions can lead to surface plasmon polariton(SPP)and photon *** far,the optical properties of such junctions have been controlled by changing the shape,or the type of the material,of the electrodes,primarily with the aim to improve SPP or photon emission *** we show that by tuning the tunneling barrier itself,the efficiency of the inelastic tunneling rates can be improved by a factor of *** exploit the anisotropic nature of hexagonal boron nitride(hBN)as the tunneling barrier material in Au//hBN//graphene tunnel junctions where the Au electrode also serves as a plasmonic strip *** this junction constitutes an optically transparent hBN–graphene heterostructure on a glass substrate,it forms an open plasmonic system where the SPPs are directly coupled to the dedicated strip waveguide and photons outcouple to the far *** experimentally and analytically show that the photon emission rate per tunneling electron is significantly improved(~×3)in Au//hBN//graphene tunnel junction due to the enhancement in the local density of optical states(LDOS)arising from the hBN *** the dedicated strip waveguide,SPP outcoupling efficiency is quantified and is found to be∼80%stronger than the radiative outcoupling in Au//hBN//graphene due to the high LDOS of the SPP decay channel associated with the inelastic *** new insights elucidated here deepen our understanding of plasmonic tunnel junctions beyond the isotropic models with enhanced LDOS.

Efficient coverage algorithms are essential for information search or dispersal in all kinds of networks. We define an extended coverage problem which accounts for constrained resources of consumed bandwidth B and time T. Our solution to the network challenge is here studied for regular grids only. Using methods from statistical mechanics, we develop a coverage algorithm with proliferating message packets and temporally modulated proliferation rate. The algorithm performs as efficiently as a single random walker but O(B(d−2)/d) times faster, resulting in significant service speed-up on a regular grid of dimension d. The algorithm is numerically compared to a class of generalized proliferating random walk strategies and on regular grids shown to perform best in terms of the product metric of speed and efficiency.

Underwater acoustic sensor networks(UWASNs)aim to find varied offshore ocean monitoring and exploration *** most of these applications,the network is composed of several sensor nodes deployed at different depths in the *** nodes located at depth on the seafloor cannot invariably communicate with nodes close to the surface level;these nodes need multihop communication facilitated by a suitable routing *** this research work,a Cluster-based Cooperative Energy Efficient Routing(CEER)mechanism for UWSNs is proposed to overcome the shortcomings of the Co-UWSN and LEACH *** optimal role of clustering and cooperation provides load balancing and improves the network *** simulation results using MATlab show better performance of CEER routing protocol in terms of various parameters as compared to Co-UWSN routing protocol,i.e.,the average end-to-end delay of CEER was 17.39,Co-UWSN was 55.819 and LEACH was *** addition,the average total energy consumption of CEER was 9.273,Co-UWSN was 12.198,and LEACH was *** packet delivery ratio of CEER was 53.955,CO-UWSN was 42.047,and LEACH was *** stability period CEER was 130.9,CO-UWSN was 129.3,and LEACH was *** obtained results maximized the lifetime and improved the overall performance of the CEER routing protocol.

Gastric cancer(GC)is one of the most common cancers and ranks the third in cancer mortality all over the *** goal of this study was to identify potential hub-genes,highlighting their functions,signaling pathways,and candidate drugs for the treatment of GC *** used publicly available next generation sequencing(NGS)data to identify differentially expressed(DE)*** top DE genes were mapped to STRING database to construct the protein-protein interaction(PPI)network and top hub genes were selected for further *** found a total of 1555 DE genes with 870 upregulated and 685 downregulated genes in *** selected the top 400(200 upregulated and 200 downregulated)genes to construct a PPI network and extracted the top 15 hub *** gene ontology(GO)term and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment analyses of the 15 hub genes exposed some important functions and signaling pathways that were significantly associated with GC *** survival analysis of the hub genes disclosed that the lower expressions of the three hub genes CDH2,COL4A1,and COL5A2 were associated with better survival of GC *** three genes might be the candidate biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of ***,we considered 3 key proteins(genomic biomarkers)(COL4A1,CDH2,and CO5A2)as the drug target proteins(receptors),performed their docking analysis with the 102 meta-drug agents,and found Everolimus,Docetaxel,Lanreotide,Venetoclax,Temsirolimus,and Nilotinib as the top ranked 6 candidate drugs with respect to our proposed target proteins for the treatment against GC ***,the proposed drugs might play vital role for the treatment against GC patients.
