Survivability is an important component in the requirements in elastic optical networks (EONs). We examine here the significance of network survivability design against multiple-link failures under dedicated protection, shared risk link group (SRLG) and bandwidth squeezing schemes. The proposed mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation seeks to derive some different types of protection considering routing, spectrum assignment, grooming, modulation format as well as shared risk link group constraints. The proposed MILP provides efficient survivability results and resource savings (in terms of spectrum) for a full design of modern EONs. © 2020 IEEE.

Increases in mobile device processing power, storage capacity, and connectivity in recent years have led to a rapid rise in mobile device use. But mobile users face challenges in making connections with other users in order to share resources. To address this issue, we propose an architecture that uses peer-to-peer protocol to establish a resource sharing platform for mobile devices, combined with a data grid to help analyze and classify resources.

In data grid, co-allocation architecture was developed to enable parallel transferring of files from multiple replicas stored in the different servers. Several dynamic file transfer strategies based on coallocation model have been proposed and used to exploit the different transfer rates among various client-server links and to address dynamic rate fluctuations by dividing files into multiple blocks of equal sizes. These schemes, which used for concurrently downloading a file from multiple replicas stored in multiple servers, overcome the obstacle of transfer performance due to idle waiting time of faster servers in co-allocation based file transfers and therefore, provide reduced file transfer time. In this paper, a tool with user friendly interface, called Cyber Transformer, is implemented and used to manage file replications and download files on data grid environments in parallel. This tool integrates eight methods including the previous and our proposed algorithms. Experimental results show that Cyber Transformer can obtain high-performance file transfer speed and reduce the time cost of parallel download.

Segment Anything Model-guided Collaborative Learning Network for Scribble-supervised Polyp Segmentation

Polyp segmentation plays a vital role in accurately locating polyps at an early stage, which holds significant clinical importance for the prevention of colorectal cancer. Various polyp segmentation methods have been developed using fully-supervised deep learning techniques. However, pixel-wise annotation for polyp images by physicians during the diagnosis is both time-consuming and expensive. Moreover, visual foundation models such as the Segment Anything Model (SAM) have shown remarkable performance. Nevertheless, directly applying SAM to medical segmentation may not produce satisfactory results due to the inherent absence of medical knowledge. In this paper, we propose a novel SAM-guided Collaborative Learning Network (SAM-CLNet) for scribble-supervised polyp segmentation, enabling a collaborative learning process between our segmentation network and SAM to boost the model performance. Specifically, we first propose a Cross-level Enhancement and Aggregation Network (CEA-Net) for weakly-supervised polyp segmentation. Within CEA-Net, we propose a Cross-level Enhancement Module (CEM) that integrates the adjacent features to enhance the representation capabilities of different resolution features. Additionally, a Feature Aggregation Module (FAM) is employed to capture richer features across multiple levels. Moreover, we present a box-augmentation strategy that combines the segmentation maps generated by CEA-Net with scribble annotations to create more precise prompts. These prompts are then fed into SAM, generating segmentation SAM-guided masks, which can provide additional supervision to train CEA-Net effectively. Furthermore, we present an Image-level Filtering Mechanism to filter out unreliable SAM-guided masks. In this paper, we study the Multi-Objective Bi-Level Optimization (MOBLO) problem, where the upper-level subproblem is a multi-objective optimization problem and the lower-level subproblem is for scalar optimization. Existing gradient-based MOBLO algorithms need to compute the Hessian matrix, causing the computational inefficient problem. To address this, we propose an efficient first-order multi-gradient method for MOBLO, called FORUM. Specifically, we reformulate MOBLO problems as a constrained multi-objective optimization (MOO) problem via the value-function approach. Then we propose a novel multi-gradient aggregation method to solve the challenging constrained MOO problem. Theoretically, we provide the complexity analysis to show the efficiency of the proposed method and a non-asymptotic convergence result. Empirically, extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed FORUM method in different learning problems. In particular, it achieves state-of-the-art performance on three multi-task learning benchmark datasets. © 2024 The Authors.

This paper presents a two-dimensional full-wave method for efficient analysis of power integrity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) of high-speed electronic packages. The power/ground planes in electronic packages form a multilayered parallel-plate structure due to the practice of using whole metal plate as power or ground planes. Each pair of power/ground plane is suitable to be modeled by a 2D finite-different time domain (2D FDTD) method. Both the conductor loss and the substrate loss are also modeled by the 2D method. Besides the parallel-plate structure, electronic packages also comprise of many transmission lines including microstrip- and stripline-type structures. Those two types of structures are also resolved by the 2D method. A third type of structure in an electronic package is via, which is modeled by using a contour integral approach. So a unified solver may be developed in the context of 2D method for the signal and power integrity analysis of electronic packages. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) issue of electronic packages is also studied in this paper. The focus of it is the radiation due to the edge effect of the parallel-plate structure in a package. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the method.

Distributed applications can fail in subtle ways that depend on the state of multiple parts of a system. This complicates the validation of such systems via fault injection, since it suggests that faults should be injected based on the global state of the system. In Loki, fault injection is performed based on a partial view of the global state of a distributed system, i.e. faults injected in one node of the system can depend on the state of other nodes. Once faults are injected, a post-runtime analysis, using off-line clock synchronization, is used to place events and injections on a single global timeline and to determine whether the intended faults were properly injected. Finally, experiments containing successful fault injections are used to estimate the specified measures. In addition to briefly reviewing the concepts behind Loki and its organization, we detail Loki's user interface. In particular, we describe the graphical user interfaces for specifying state machines and faults, for executing a campaign and for verifying whether the faults were properly injected.

This paper describes the basis for and preliminary implementation of a new fault injector, called Loki, developed specifically for distributed systems. Loki addresses issues related to injecting correlated faults in distributed systems. In Loki, fault injection is performed based on a partial view of the global state of an application. In particular, facilities are provided to pass user-specified state information between nodes to provide a partial view of the global state in order to try to inject complex faults successfully. A post-runtime analysis, using an off-line clock synchronization and a bounding technique, is used to place events and injections on a single global time-line and determine whether the intended faults were properly injected. Finally, observations containing successful fault injections are used to estimate specified dependability measures. In addition to describing the details of our new approach, we present experimental results obtained from a preliminary implementation in order to illustrate Loki's ability to inject complex faults predictably.

Project TOUCH (Telehealth Outreach for Unified Community Health) is a collaborative effort between University of New Mexico and University of Hawaii. The purpose of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of using advanced technologies to overcome geographical barriers to delivery of medical education and to enhance the learning process within a group setting. This has led to the design and implementation of a new system that addresses the critical requirements for collaborative virtual environments: consistency, networking, scalability, and system integration. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the collaborative system based on use patterns during Project TOUCH sessions.
