Constraint solving stands out as a significant bot-tleneck in symbolic execution. Caching is a commonly adopted approach to alleviate this bottleneck. However, the cutting-edge caching technique targeting unsatisfiable constraints, known as unsatisfiable core caching, primarily involves checking whether the constraint being solved contains an unsatisfiable core that has been previously collected. Such straightforward reuse frequently proves less effective in numerous scenarios. In this paper, we present a novel method to enhance the utilization of unsatisfiable cores. By excavating unsatisfiable cores, our method can compute an easily solvable over-approximation that tends to be unsatis-fiable for each constraint, which facilitates the determination of the satisfiability of the original constraint. We implemented our method on KLEE symbolic executor. The evaluation results on 27 real-world programs are encouraging.

NetMind+: Adaptive Baseband Function Placement With GCN Encoding and Incremental Maze-Solving DRL for Dynamic and Heterogeneous RANs

The disaggregated architecture of advanced Radio Access Networks (RANs) with diverse X-haul latencies, in conjunction with resource-limited multi-access edge computing networks, presents significant challenges in designing a general model in placing baseband and user plane functions to accommodate versatile 5G services. This paper proposes a novel approach, NetMind+, which leverages Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to determine the function placement strategies in diverse and evolving RAN topologies, aiming at minimizing power consumption. NetMind+ resolves the problem with a maze-solving strategy, enabling a Markov Decision Process with standardized action space scales across different networks. Additionally, a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) based encoding and an incremental learning mechanism are introduced, allowing features from different and dynamic networks to be aggregated into a single DRL agent. This facilitates the generalization capability of DRL and minimizes the negative retraining impact. In an example with three sub-networks, NetMind+ demonstrates a substantial 32.76% improvement in power savings and a 41.67% increase in service stability compared to benchmarks from the existing literature. Compared to traditional methods necessitating a dedicated DRL agent for each network, NetMind+ attains comparable performance with 70% of the training cost savings. Furthermore, it demonstrates robust adaptability during network variations, accelerating training speed by 50%. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Next-generation spacecraft developers are earnestly investigating the application of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms onboard to enable new mission concepts for space exploration and science. However, the current generation of radiation-hardened processors are inferior compared to commercial-off-the-shelf alternatives in terms of the computational performance required by modern AI applications. To address this disparity, space-system designers have started employing novel radiation-tolerant architectures combining both commercial and radiation-hardened components to mitigate radiation effects at a system level. Unfortunately, developing single-board computers with radiation-tolerant, high-performance processors is challenging because designers must balance the sparce selection of radiation-hardened power converters and high-reliability decoupling capacitors with SmallSat/CubeSat area constraints and limited thermal conduction. Consequently, the next-generation of space processors, including the AMD-Xilinx Versal Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform require demanding power solutions capable of supplying core rails with 0.8V ± 18mV and currents up to 150 A. In this paper, we present a multifaceted analysis of the power system and decoupling network for a future Versal-based design. We developed preliminary power estimates based on expected processor and FPGA resource utilization for common AI processing applications. These estimates drive the power system requirements and a comparative analysis of single-phase integrated converters and multi-phase discrete converters for high-current FPGA supplies. We develop a tradespace between the number of phases, input voltage, load current, switching frequency, power efficiency, and printed circuit board area. Finally, we design and simulate four power delivery networks based on commercial, high-reliability, and flight-qualified capacitors to compare the efficacy of 0201 decoupling capacitors in flight missions.

Modality Prompts for Arbitrary Modality Salient Object Detection

This paper delves into the task of arbitrary modality salient object detection (AM SOD), aiming to detect salient objects from arbitrary modalities, e.g. RGB images, RGB-D images, and RGB-D-T images. A novel modality-adaptive Transformer (MAT) will be proposed to investigate two fundamental challenges of AM SOD, i.e. more diverse modality discrepancies caused by varying modality types that need to be processed, and dynamic fusion design caused by an uncertain number of modalities present in the inputs of multimodal fusion strategy. Specifically, inspired by prompt learning’s ability of aligning the distributions of pre-trained models to the characteristic of downstream tasks by learning some prompts, MAT will first present a modality-adaptive feature extractor (MAFE) to tackle the diverse modality discrepancies by introducing a modality prompt for each modality. In the training stage, a new modality translation contractive (MTC) loss will be further designed to assist MAFE in learning those modality-distinguishable modality prompts. Accordingly, in the testing stage, MAFE can employ those learned modality prompts to adaptively adjust its feature space according to the characteristics of the input modalities, thus being able to extract discriminative unimodal features. Then, MAFE will present a channel-wise and spatial-wise fusion hybrid (CSFH) strategy to meet the demand for dynamic fusion. For that, CSFH dedicates a channel-wise dynamic fusion module (CDFM) and a novel spatial-wise dynamic fusion module (SDFM) to fuse the unimodal features from varying numbers of modalities and meanwhile effectively capture cross-modal complementary semantic and detail information, respectively. Moreover, CSFH will carefully align CDFM and SDFM to different levels of unimodal features based on their characteristics for more effective complementary information exploitation. The paper describes a cloud-based platform that utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Explainable AI techniques to deliver evidence-based, personalized interventions to individuals over 65 suffering or at risk of hearing loss, cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairments, balance disorders, or mental health issues, while supporting efficient remote monitoring and clinician-driven guidance. As part of the SMART BEAR integrated project, this platform has been developed to support its large-scale clinical trials. We introduce a stacking strategy to design nonlinear chiral metasurfaces with high rotational symmetry, enabling degenerate quasi-bound-in-the-continuum resonances of absolute chirality. This symmetry allows for converting a circularly polarized pump into a circularly polarized nonlinear signal. Consequently, our rotation-symmetric bilayered metasurface design, tailored to respond solely to one specific circular polarization, can up-convert a linear or arbitrary polarized pump into circularly polarized nonlinear signals. The intensity ratios of these signals scale as the fourth (second) power of the chiral resonance amplitude for the second (third) harmonic.

Vision-Amplified Semantic Entropy for Hallucination Detection in Medical Visual Question Answering

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated significant potential in medical Visual Question Answering (VQA). Yet, they remain prone to hallucinations—incorrect responses that contradict input images, posing substantial risks in clinical decision-making. Detecting these hallucinations is essential for establishing trust in MLLMs among clinicians and patients, thereby enabling their real-world adoption. Current hallucination detection methods, especially semantic entropy (SE), have demonstrated promising hallucination detection capacity for LLMs. However, adapting SE to medical MLLMs by incorporating visual perturbations presents a dilemma. Weak perturbations preserve image content and ensure clinical validity, but may be overlooked by medical MLLMs, which tend to over rely on language priors. In contrast, strong perturbations can distort essential diagnostic features, compromising clinical interpretation. To address this issue, we propose Vision Amplified Semantic Entropy (VASE), which incorporates weak image transformations and amplifies the impact of visual input, to improve hallucination detection in medical VQA. We first estimate the semantic predictive distribution under weak visual transformations to preserve clinical validity, and then amplify visual influence by contrasting this distribution with that derived from a distorted image. The entropy of the resulting distribution is estimated as VASE. Experiments on two medical open-ended VQA datasets demonstrate that VASE consistently outperforms existing hallucination detection methods. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Valley Hall Effect and Kink States in Topolectrical Circuits

We investigate the emergence of topological valley Hall and kink states in a two-dimensional topolectrical (TE) model as a result of broken chiral and reflection symmetries. The TE system consists of two segments hosting distinct topological states with opposite signs of the valley Hall index, and separated by a heterojunction. In the practical circuit, the valley Hall index can be flipped between the two segments by modulating the onsite potential on the sublattice nodes of the respective segments. The presence of resistive coupling, which introduces non-Hermiticity in the system, subsequently leads to the emergence of gapped and gapless valley and kink states in the admittance spectra. These topological modes can be detected electrically by the impedance readouts of the system which can be correlated to its admittance spectra. Finally, we confirm the robustness of the valley Hall and kink states via realistic LTspice simulation taking into account the tolerance windows and parasitic effects inherent in circuit components. Air quality influences the life of the living beings that inhabit planet Earth. high levels of air pollutants in ambient air are in fact able to affect human health and also ecosystem integrity. Their monitoring allows for regulating the most appropriate air quality indices and verifying whether they are below the established harmful levels. However, this is a task that requires many physical and economic resources. For this reason, the research activity herein presented proposes a low-cost system, which is able to qualitatively evaluate the meteorological conditions and the main pollutants that affect a certain area. Through this proposal, the behavior of Alphasense's electrochemical gas low-cost sensors is studied. Their response to the concentrations of the main air pollutants regulated by the relevant European Directive (2008/50/CE), such as Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Ozone, and Sulfur Dioxide, is characterized and analyzed under various environmental conditions of Temperature and Relative Humidity and as a function of the electrical current signal obtained by the chemistry of the sensor.

Job scheduling plays an important role in improving the overall system performance in big data processing frameworks. Simple job scheduling policies, such as Fair and FIFO scheduling, do not consider job sizes and may degrade the performance when jobs of varying sizes arrive. More elaborate job scheduling policies make the convenient assumption that jobs are recurring, and complete information about their sizes is available from their prior runs. In this paper, we design and implement an efficient and practical job scheduler for big data processing systems to achieve better performance even without prior information about job sizes. The superior performance of our job scheduler originates from the design of multiple level priority queues, where jobs are demoted to lower priority queues if the amount of service consumed so far reaches a certain threshold. In this case, jobs in need of a small amount of service can finish in the topmost several levels of queues, while jobs that need a large amount of service to complete are moved to lower priority queues to avoid head-of-line blocking. Our new job scheduler can effectively mimic the shortest job first scheduling policy without knowing the job sizes in advance. To demonstrate its performance, we have implemented our new job scheduler in YARN, a popular resource manager used by Hadoop/Spark, and validated its performance with experiments in both real testbeds including Amazon EC2 and large-scale trace-driven simulations. Our experimental and simulation results have strongly confirmed the effectiveness of our design: our new job scheduler can reduce the average job response time of the Fair scheduler by up to 45 percent and achieve better fairness at the same time. © 2013 IEEE.
