Many major cities suffer from severe traffic congestion. Road expansion in the cites is usually infeasible, and an alternative way to alleviate traffic congestion is to coordinate the route of vehicles. Various path selection and planning algorithms are thus proposed, but most existing methods only plan paths separately and provide un-coordinated solutions. Recently, an analogy between the coordination of vehicular routes and the interaction of polymers is drawn;the spin glass theory in statistical physics is employed to optimally coordinate transportation routes. To further examine the advantages brought by path coordination, we incorporate the link congestion function developed by the Bureau of Public Roads (BPR) into the polymer routing algorithm. We then estimate in simulations the traveling time of all users saved by the polymer-BPR algorithm in randomly generated networks and real transportation networks in major cities including London, New York and Beijing. We found that a large amount of traveling time is saved in all studied networks, suggesting that the approach inspired by polymer physics is effective in minimizing the traveling time via path coordination, which is a promising tool for alleviating traffic congestions. The performances of modern distributed stream processing systems are critically affected by the distribution of the load across workers. Skewed data streams in real world are very common and pose a great challenge to these systems, especially for stateful applications. Key splitting, which allows a single key to be routed to multiple workers, is a great idea to achieve good balance of load in the cluster. However, it comes with the cost of increased memory consumption and computation overhead as well as network communication. In this paper, we present a new definition of metric to model the cost of key splitting for intra-operator parallelism in stream processing systems and provide a novel perspective to reduce replication factor while keeping both overall load imbalance and processing latency low. Similar to previous work, our approach treats the head and the tail of the distribution differently in order to reduce memory requirements. For the head, it uses our proposed notion of regional load imbalance to decide dynamically whether to make one more worker responsible for the heavy hitter or not. For the tail, it simply uses hash partitioning to keep the size of the routing table for the head as small as possible. Extensive experimental evaluation demonstrates that our approach provides superior performance compared to the state-of-the-art partitioning algorithms in terms of load imbalance, replication factor and latency over different levels of skewed stream distributions.

Mg3Bi2 has been proved to be a semimetal with topological surface states (referred to as a topological semimetal, TSM) in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), and predicted to be a type-II nodal line semimetal (NSM) in the absence of SOC. It is possible to tune the effective SOC in Mg3Bi2 by substituting the heavy Bi atom with lighter atoms, such as Sb or As, which results in topological phase transitions. Here in our work we investigate the evolution of the transport properties and band structures of Mg3Bi2 by doping different concentrations of Sb through molecular beam epitaxy. Our results demonstrate the existence of phase transitions of TSM to trivial semimetal (SM) and SM to trivial insulator, with Sb concentration x at x1≈0.44–0.64 and x2≈1.39, respectively. Further theoretical calculations give values of x1≈0.523 and x2≈1.10, which agrees well with our experimental results. And all these results are concluded into a Mg3Bi2−xSbx phase diagram. Our work will stimulate more explorations to the possibilities of the realization of type-II NSM in Mg3Bi2 by various elements substitution.

Stencil is a basic building block widely used in many HPC areas and applications. It generally dominates the time cost and is critical to the overall performance. Given that heterogeneous many-core is frequently adopted to build super computers, porting and optimizing stencil codes on modern accelerator-based architectures is important. Porting is non-trivial, and optimization is more difficult as it requires better understanding of the underlying architecture. As a result, auto tuning targeting on accelerators such as GPU becomes a hot research topic. In this paper, we focus on tuning stencil automatically on SW26010, which is a heterogeneous many-core CPU equipped in Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer, and mainly work on 2D stencil variants code in ROMS (Regional Ocean Modeling System). The code generator can generate codes running on slave cores for 50+ different FORTRAN stencil-alike loops in ROMS in seconds, and optimization methods are integrated into the generator as well. The performance is better than the directive based method (OpenACC) and the hand-drafted code by a junior programmer, and it is comparable compared with the code written by a senior programmer with several years of programming experience. © 2019 IEEE.

Perceiving nanoscale ferroelectric phenomena from real space is of great importance for elucidating underlying ferroelectric physics. During the past decades, nanoscale ferroelectric characterization has mainly relied on the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy (PFM), however, the fundamental limitations of PFM have made the nanoscale ferroelectric studies encounter significant bottlenecks. In this study, a high-resolution non-contact ferroelectric measurement, named Non-Contact Heterodyne Electrostrain Force Microscopy (NC-HEsFM), has been introduced firstly. It has been unambiguously demonstrated that NC-HEsFM can operate on multiple eigenmodes to perform ideal high-resolution ferroelectric domain mapping, standard ferroelectric hysteresis loop measurement and controllable domain manipulation. With using quartz tuning fork (QTF) sensor and heterodyne detection, NC-HEsFM shows an unprecedented capability in achieving real non-contact yet non-destructive ferroelectric characterization with negligible electrostatic force effect. It is believed that NC-HEsFM can be extensively used in various ferroelectric or piezoelectric studies with providing substantially improved characterization performance. Meanwhile, the QTF-based force detection makes NC-HEsFM highly compatible for high-vacuum and low-temperature environments, providing ideal conditions for achieving an ultra-high spatial resolution to investigate the most intrinsic ferroelectric phenomena. The power of triply complementary priors for image compressive sensing

Recent works that utilized deep models have achieved superior results in various image restoration applications. Such approach is typically supervised which requires a corpus of training images with distribution similar to the images to be recovered. On the other hand, the shallow methods which are usually unsupervised remain promising performance in many inverse problems, e.g., image compressive sensing (CS), as they can effectively leverage non-local self-similarity priors of natural images. However, most of such methods are patch-based leading to the restored images with various ringing artifacts due to naive patch aggregation. Using either approach alone usually limits performance and generalizability in image restoration tasks. In this paper, we propose a joint low-rank and deep (LRD) image model, which contains a pair of triply complementary priors, namely external and internal, deep and shallow, and local and nonlocal priors. We then propose a novel hybrid plug-and-play (H-PnP) framework based on the LRD model for image CS. To make the optimization tractable, a simple yet effective algorithm is proposed to solve the proposed H-PnP based image CS problem. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed H-PnP algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art techniques for image CS recovery such as SCSNet and WNNM. Hadoop application will produce lots of intermediate results in the map/reduce process that requires disk I/O and network transmission. By compressing the large-scale data of intermediate result, it will greatly improve disk access efficiently and reduce program run time. Hardware-accelerated solutions have become more desirable. This paper design a multi-FPGA compression accelerator on the Hadoop platform, and the system performance analysis compared with a software-only solution that mainly uses CPU to processing. The testing programs are zpipe, TestDFSIO and Terasort. In contrast with the software-only solution. The max speedup of zpipe is 6.55X (single FPGA) and 10.24X (dual FPGA), the max speedup of TestDFSIO is 6.28X (single FPGA) and 6.28X (dual FPGA), and the max speedup of Terasort application is up to 3.25X(single FPGA) and 3.35X(dual FPGA).

2D covalent organic frameworks (2D-COFs) have attracted extensive interest in solar energy to hydrogen conversion. However, insufficient light harvesting and difficult exciton dissociation severely limit the improvement of photocatalytic activity for COFs, thereby impeding the progression of this advanced field. In this work, two benzobisoxazole-bridged and fully conjugated 2D-COFs with triazine (COF-JLU44) and pyrene (COF-JLU45) units were constructed for the first time via Knoevenagel polycondensation, and they hold long-range ordered structures, largely acceptable surface area, and fascinating photoelectric properties. Significantly, COF-JLU45 exhibits an impressive hydrogen evolution rate of 272.5 mmol g −1 h −1 and superior reusability in the presence of 1.0 wt% Pt under light irradiation, coupled with a remarkable apparent quantum yield of 12.9% at a long wavelength of 600 nm. Multiple spectroscopy and theoretical simulation demonstrate the ingenious design of COF-JLU45 widen its light absorption and effectively promote the exciton dissociation. This finding contributes valuable insights for constructing metal-free photocatalysts for solar energy conversion and utilization.

Multispectral Image Analysis (MIA) is an exciting area of research and famous due to its utilization in geo monitoring, such as environmental change detection and region classification. Currently, many other areas are also emerging and are utilizing the multispectral imagery for improving the existing business processes and ensuring the reliability in the existing business methods. However, the process of generating and analyzing multispectral data needs more sophisticated techniques and methods. Also, the multispectral data possesses some temporal and structural inconsistencies, which make the existing multispectral analysis a more challenging task. Therefore, this study surveys the practical implication and possible issues in multispectral image analysis. For that reason, this study aims to investigate the two simple research questions and follow a structured analysis approach to achieve the research objectives. The rest of the paper is structured as; Section II briefly explains the systematic methodology adopted for this survey. Section III is relevant to research finding in response to the RQ1 and RQ2. Finally, Section IV presents the conclusion of this study. In future work, we will sharpen this study towards Skin Disease Analysis using Multispectral Imagery.

Accurate traffic forecasting plays a crucial role in modern Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), as it enables real-time traffic flow management, reduces congestion, and improves the overall efficiency of urban transportation networks. With the rise of Quantum Machine Learning (QML), it has emerged a new paradigm possessing the potential to enhance predictive capabilities beyond what classical machine learning models can achieve. In the present work we pursue a heuristic approach to explore the potential of QML, and focus on a specific transport issue. In particular, as a case study we investigate a traffic forecast task for a major urban area in Athens (Greece), for which we possess high-resolution data. In this endeavor we explore the application of Quantum Neural Networks (QNN), and, notably, we present the first application of quantum data re-uploading in the context of transport forecasting. This technique allows quantum models to better capture complex patterns, such as traffic dynamics, by repeatedly encoding classical data into a quantum state. Aside from providing a prediction model, we spend considerable effort in comparing the performance of our hybrid quantum-classical neural networks with classical deep learning approaches. We observe that, in fully connected network settings, hybrid quantum-classical models consistently underperform, with median scores approximately 10% worse than their purely classical counterparts across different configurations. In contrast, recursive architectures with data re-uploading show the opposite trend: hybrid models achieved up to 5% better median scores under comparable complexity settings. Additionally, these hybrid models converged in fewer training epochs, indicating improved training efficiency. Our results show that hybrid models achieve competitive accuracy with state-of-the-art classical methods, especially when the number of qubits and re-uploading blocks is increased.
