Adaptive Occlusion Face Recognition Feature Fusion Network Based on Precise Guidance Mask Extraction

The uncertainty in the position and size of occluding objects greatly affects the extraction of identity features in facial recognition, which is a challenge that existing methods fail to effectively address. To tackle this issue, this paper introduces a novel feature fusion network for occluded facial recognition that adaptively handles arbitrary occlusions and accurately extracts occlusion information masks. The network effectively mitigates the impact of occlusions on facial identity features through a feature fusion module. The proposed method employs an occlusion classification module and an occlusion classification loss to precisely guide the extraction of accurate occlusion masks. Subsequently, an occlusion-aware hybrid attention module is introduced, which focuses on the relationship between facial features and occlusion masks across channel and spatial dimensions. This fusion strategy enables the extraction of facial identity features that are resilient to occlusions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method holds a significant advantage in handling facial recognition tasks with arbitrary occlusions. On the LFW and MF1 synthetic occlusion datasets, the average accuracy rates reached 93.19% and 72.57%, respectively, showing improvements of 1.7 and 2.39 percent points over mainstream methods. © Shanghai Jiao Tong University 2025.

Intelligent Global Error Estimation for Mesh Discretization in Method of Moments

Traditional methods are insufficient for the effective assessment of mesh quality prior to performing electromagnetic field calculations using the method of moments (MoM). To address this problem, we propose an intelligent global error estimation algorithm for mesh discretization in MoM. The algorithm utilizes a neural network to effectively capture and model the complex nonlinear relationship between point cloud-based mesh data and global mesh discretization errors. To train the neural network, we developed a custom electromagnetic scattering error dataset and proposed a technique for encoding unstructured mesh as point cloud data to effectively capture mesh features. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed neural network framework's efficacy in accurately assessing global errors in electromagnetic scattering. © 2002-2011 IEEE.

Robust and digital hyper-polarization protocol of nuclear spins via magic sequential sequence

Hyper-polarization of nuclear spins is crucial for advancing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and quantum information technologies, as nuclear spins typically exhibit extremely low polarization at room temperature due to their small gyro-magnetic ratios. A promising approach to achieving high nuclear spin polarization is transferring the polarization of electron to nuclear spin. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond has emerged as a highly effective medium for this purpose, and various hyper-polarization protocols have been developed. Among these, the pulsed polarization (PulsePol) method has been extensively studied due to its robustness against static energy shifts of the electron spin. In this study, we introduce a sequential polarization protocol and identify a series of magic and digital sequences for hyper-polarizing nuclear spins. Notably, we demonstrate that some of these magic sequences exhibit significantly greater robustness compared to the PulsePol protocol in the presence of finite half π pulse duration of the protocol. This enhanced robustness positions our protocol as a more suitable candidate for hyper-polarizing nuclear spins species with large gyromagnetic ratios and also ensures better compatibility with high-efficiency readout techniques at high magnetic fields. Additionally, the generality of our protocol allows for its direct application to other solid-state quantum systems beyond the NV center. © 2025, CC BY.

Comparative modeling and evaluation of CC-NUMA and COMA on hierarchical ring architectures

Parallel computing performance on scalable shared-memory architectures is affected by the structure of the interconnection networks linking processors to memory modules and on the efficiency of the memory/cache management systems. Cache Coherence Nonuniform Memory Access (CC-NUMA) and Cache Only Memory Access (COMA) are two effective memory systems, and the hierarchical ring structure is an efficient interconnection network in hardware. This paper focuses on comparative performance modeling and evaluation of CC-NUMA and COMA on a hierarchical ring shared-memory architecture. Analytical models for the two memory systems for comparative evaluation are presented, Intensive performance measurements on data migrations have been conducted on the KSR-1, a COMA hierarchical ring shared-memory machine. Experimental results support the analytical models, and we present practical observations and comparisons of the two cache coherence memory systems. Our analytical and experimental results show that a COMA system balances the work load well. However the overhead of frequent data movement may match the gains obtained from improving load balance. We believe our performance results could be further generalized to the two memory systems on a hierarchical network architecture. Although a CC-NUMA system may not automatically balance the load at the system level, it provides an option for a user to explicitly handle data locality for a possible performance improvement.

PARALLELIZING AN OIL REFINING SIMULATION - NUMERICAL-METHODS, IMPLEMENTATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

One important process in oil refining is to separate the crude oil into various oil products. This process is called distillation. Engineers routinely perform a large computer simulation while designing a complex distillation column. This paper presents experience in parallelizing an oil refining simulation application that computes the composition of the various oil products in these distillation columns. Mathematical models for the simulation form large sparse nonlinear systems of equations. Triangular decompositions of these sparse nonlinear systems are fundamental numerical methods in this simulation. The paper shows the application of different approaches for carrying out this simulation in parallel. Parallelizations of the simulation program are introduced at three levels - direct, structured, and asynchronous. The approaches of this practical research provide insight into important issues of parallel computing for real-world applications. The paper includes parallel implementations on the Intel iPSC/860 and parallel computing results with comparisons and discussions.

Intent detection and slot filling are two important components of natural language *** their relevance,joint training is often performed to improve *** studies mostly use a joint model of multi-intent detection and slot-filling with unidirectional interaction,which improves the overall performance of the model by fusing the intent information in the slot-filling *** this basis,in order to further improve the overall performance of the model by exploiting the correlation between the two,this paper proposes a joint multi-intent detection and slot-filling model based on a bidirectional interaction structure,which fuses the intent encoding information in the encoding part of slot filling and fuses the slot decoding information in the decoding part of intent *** results on two public multi-intent joint training datasets,MixATIS and MixSNIPS,show that the bidirectional interaction structure proposed in this paper can effectively improve the performance of the joint *** addition,in order to verify the generalization of the bidirectional interaction structure between intent and slot,a joint model for single-intent scenarios is proposed on the basis of the model in this *** model also achieves excellent performance on two public single-intent joint training datasets,CAIS and SNIPS.

Empirical topological investigation of practical supply chains based on complex networks

The industrial supply chain networks basically capture the circulation of social resource, dominating the stability and efficiency of the industrial system. In this paper, we provide an empirical study of the topology of smartphone supply chain network. The supply chain network is constructed using open online data. Our experimental results show that the smartphone supply chain network has small-world feature with scale-free degree distribution, in which a few high degree nodes play a key role in the function and can effectively reduce the communication cost. We also detect the community structure to find the basic functional unit. It shows that information communication between nodes is crucial to improve the resource utilization. We should pay attention to the global resource configuration for such electronic production management.

An effective and practical performance prediction model for parallel computing on nondedicated heterogeneous NOW

Networks of workstations (NOW) are receiving increased attention as a viable platform for high performance parallel computations. Heterogeneity and time-sharing are two characteristics that distinguish the NOW systems from conventional multiprocessor/multicomputer systems which are homogeneous and dedicated. It is important to have a practical model for users to predict the execution times of large-scale parallel applications on nondedicated heterogeneous NOW. Another objective of this study is to provide insight into the dynamic performance of parallel computing and into the effects of program structures and system factors on such a platform. In this paper, we study performance predictions for parallel computing on nondedicated heterogeneous networks of workstations. Our approach is based on a two-level model. On the top level, a semideterministic task graph is used to capture the parallel execution behavior including the variances of communication and synchronization. On the bottom level, a discrete time model is used to quantify effects from NOW systems. An iterative process is used to determine the interactive effects between network contention and task execution. We validate the prediction model using experiments on a nondedicated heterogeneous NOW. The maximum differences between predicted results and measured results were less than 10% in most cases and 15% in the worst cases. (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
