Backdoor-Empowered Regulable Privilege Authorization for Edge-Level Graph Learning in 6G Vehicular Networks

Edge-Level Graph Learning System (EGLS) exhibits diverse applicability in flow prediction, route planning, and accident forecasting. Existing EGLS studies extremely stress absolute fairness and impartiality for all users, resultantly depriving its flexibility and humanity in addressing special circumstances and rendering the privilege authorization for exceptional responses challenging to achieve. To address this limitation, we present BackPriv, the first privilege authorization methodology enabling regulable privilege assignment or revocation in EGLS. Specifically, it is achieved through a creative edge backdoor mechanism, wherein the edge training samples are poisoned via user-specific privilege tokens to induce privilege outputs from the well-trained EGLS for authorized users. Moreover, related EGLS regulating strategies were proposed to dynamically realize the addition and revocation of user privileges by system retraining to guarantee privilege control in EGLS. Additionally, a Graph Mutual information-based adaptive privilege token generation method is introduced to reduce the impact of privilege authorization on normal inputs and augment authorization functionality. Based on experiments with multiple real-world datasets, BackPriv demonstrates high success rates of privilege authorization under various scenarios ( 100%) and exerts minimal impact on normal task performance for regular inputs (mean accuracy drop 0.32%). © 1975-2011 IEEE.

An Enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Global Router for VLSI Design

Global routing is a crucial step in the design of Very Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) circuits. However, most of the existing methods are heuristic algorithms, which cannot conjointly optimize the subproblems of global routing, resulting in congestion and overflow. In response to this challenge, an enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning- (DRL-) based global router has been proposed, which comprises the following effective strategies. First, to avoid the overestimation problem generated by Q-learning, the proposed global router adopts the Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) model. The DDQN-based global router has better performance in wire length optimization and convergence. Second, to avoid the agent from learning redundant information, an action elimination method is added to the action selection part, which significantly enhances the convergence performance of the training process. Third, to avoid the unfair allocation problem of routing resources in serial training, concurrent training is proposed to enhance the routability. Fourth, to reduce wire length and disperse routing resources, a new reward function is proposed to guide the agent to learn better routing solutions regarding wire length and congestion standard deviation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms others in several important performance metrics, including wire length, convergence performance, routability, and congestion standard deviation. In conclusion, the proposed enhanced DRL-based global router is a promising approach for solving the global routing problem in VLSI design, which can achieve superior performance compared to the heuristic method and DRL-based global router. © 2023 Saijuan Xu et al.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a flu-like illness annually responsible for 100K-160K hospitalizations and 6K-10K deaths in adults above the age of 65 as well as 58K-80K hospitalizations and 100–300 deaths in children under 5 years of age in the United States. A live prediction of the rate of growth of RSV cases during the RSV season can empower healthcare organizations to best prepare for RSV peaks and ultimately reduce the RSV mortality rate without over-budgeting, be it pharmaceutical companies producing too many perishable testing kits, vaccines and medications or hospitals keeping too many beds and staffing in reserve and thus away from other needed patients. This study adds a new RSV forecasting model to eVision, the collection of disease-forecasting Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks, developed by Santa Clara University's EPIC (Ethical, Pragmatic, and Intelligent computing) Research lab. This model leverages data from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Google Trends between 2021–2024 to predict the trend of RSV cases through the typical RSV season and beyond in the United States. Given the lack of extensive RSV data - which has only been collected by the CDC on a national level since 2021 - and how easily RSV is mistaken for other diseases, this model has a limitation on the number of weeks ahead in which its prediction can maintain a high accuracy for. This model successfully predicts percent positive RSV Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests with 94.45 % forecasting accuracy three weeks in advance at the national level, for the 2023–2024 RSV season.

To ensure the security of image information and facilitate efficient management in the cloud, the utilization of reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) has emerged as pivotal. However, most existing RDHEI schemes suffer from lower security and limited embedding capacity. To tackle these challenges, we propose a reversible data hiding with secret encrypted image sharing and adaptive coding scheme. Specifically, in the encryption phase, we introduce an improved secret sharing (SS) encryption method based on the chinese remainder theorem for polynomials (CRTP). This method not only improves the security of encrypted images but also vacates a larger room for embedding. In the embedding phase, we introduce an adaptive coding embedding approach using XOR preservation (XORP) and huffman coding, which provides high embedding capacity. Experimental results and security analysis demonstrate that our proposed encryption method achieves optimal values in security indicators for encrypted images, such as information entropy, histograms, NPCR and UACI. The proposed embedding method is superior to some state-of-the-art schemes in terms of embedding capacity. Furthermore, in datasets BOSSBase and BOWS2, the average embedding rates of the proposed embedding approach can reach 2.1745 bpp and 2.0656 bpp, respectively. © 2025 IEEE.

Virtual-Source and Virtual-Swarm-Based Particle Swarm Optimizer for Large-Scale Multi-Source Location via Robot Swarm

Multi-source location is a significant application in the field of robot swarm and is required to find all sources whose number and distribution are unknown in advance. With few parameters and fast search, Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO) variants that have certain grouping capability have been applied to address multi-source location problems by dividing a swarm such that every source has robots to locate. However, they are difficult to predetermine the exact number of groups, require a big number of robots, and are easily trapped in the no-signal areas when the proportion of no-signal areas is high. This work proposes a Virtual-source and Virtual-swarm-based PSO (VVPSO) to divide a search area into multiple cells equally, each of which has a virtual source in its center. Then, instead of robots grouping, only one group of robots is employed to traverse all virtual sources, and search their corresponding cells to locate real sources by a new PSO called Real-virtual mapping PSO (RMPSO). RMPSO asymmetrically maps a robot into a particle swarm with multiple virtual particles to perform PSO, which greatly reduces the requirements for the number of robots. Experimental results show that VVPSO has great search scalability and can solve large-scale multi-source location problems than two state-of-the-art grouping methods and three representative multimodal PSO variants, even with only one robot. Hence, this work greatly advances the field of multi-source location by using mobile robot swarm. IEEE

Is Dataset Quality Still a Concern in Diagnosis Using Large Foundation Model?

Recent advancements in pre-trained large foundation models (LFM) have yielded significant breakthroughs across various domains, including natural language processing and computer vision. These models have been particularly impactful in the domain of medical diagnostic tasks. With abundant unlabeled data, an LFM has been developed for fundus images using the Vision Transformer (VIT) and a self-supervised learning framework. This LFM has shown promising performance in fundus disease diagnosis across multiple datasets. On the other hand, deep learning models have long been challenged by dataset quality issues, such as image quality and dataset bias. To investigate the influence of data quality on LFM, we conducted explorations in two fundus diagnosis tasks using datasets of varying quality. Specifically, we explored the following questions: Is LFM more robust to image quality? Is LFM affected by dataset bias? Can fine-tuning techniques alleviate these effects? Our investigation found that LFM exhibits greater resilience to dataset quality issues, including image quality and dataset bias, compared to typical convolutional networks. Furthermore, we discovered that overall fine-tuning is an effective adapter for LFM to mitigate the impact of dataset quality issues. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Explainable-AI-based two-stage solution for WSN object localization using zero-touch mobile transceivers

Artificial intelligence technology is widely used in the field of wireless sensor networks(WSN).Due to its inexplicability, the interference factors in the process of WSN object localization cannot be effectively eliminated. In this paper, an explainable-AI-based two-stage solution is proposed for WSN object localization. In this solution, mobile transceivers are used to enlarge the positioning range and eliminate the blind area for object localization. The motion parameters of transceivers are considered to be unavailable,and the localization problem is highly nonlinear with respect to the unknown parameters. To address this,an explainable AI model is proposed to solve the localization problem. Since the relationship among the variables is difficult to fully include in the first-stage traditional model, we develop a two-stage explainable AI solution for this localization problem. The two-stage solution is actually a comprehensive consideration of the relationship between variables. The solution can continue to use the constraints unused in the firststage during the second-stage, thereby improving the performance of the solution. Therefore, the two-stage solution has stronger robustness compared to the closed-form solution. Experimental results show that the performance of both the two-stage solution and the traditional solution will be affected by numerical changes in unknown parameters. However, the two-stage solution performs better than the traditional solution, especially with a small number of mobile transceivers and sensors or in the presence of high noise. Furthermore,we have also verified the feasibility of the proposed explainable-AI-based two-stage solution.

Edge computing emerges as a pivotal model in the era of next-generation consumer electronics and the emerging challenges of multimodal data-driven decision-making. Specifically, edge computing offers an open computing architecture for the vast and diverse consumer multimodal data generated by mobile computing and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. While edge computing is instrumental in optimizing latency and bandwidth control in processing consumer multimodal data, the viability of employing edge resources is complicated by high service costs and the complexities of managing multimodal data diversity. This study introduces an innovative optimization method for distributing multimodal data on edge storage, considering both the I/O (input/output) speed and the overall distribution cost. The core part of our approach is the deployment of intelligent algorithms that ensure equitable data distribution across storage servers, thus eliminating unused space and reducing extra costs. Given the complexity of this NP-hard (non-deterministic polynomial-time) challenge, our study reveals a unique model incorporating an edge-broker component in combination with novel algorithms. The proposed algorithms aim to harmonize data distribution and reduce resource allocation expenses in a multimodal edge environment. Our proposed approach achieves excellent results, highlighting the efficacy of the proposed algorithms in several parameters such as makespan, cost, multimodal data security, and total processing time. Empirical tests reveal that the BCA (Best Clustering Algorithm) performs best, achieving a minimum load balancing rate of 92.2%, an average variance of 0.04, and an average run time of 0.56 seconds. Discrete chaotic systems based on memristors exhibit excellent dynamical properties and are more straightforward to implement in hardware, making them highly suitable for generating cryptographic keystreams. However, most existing memristor-based chaotic systems rely on a single memristor. This paper introduces a novel discrete chaotic system employing dual memristors, named the 3D memristive cubic map with dual discrete memristors (3D-MCM). The 3D-MCM system demonstrates richer and more intricate dynamical behaviors compared to its single-memristor counterparts, as verified through bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponent spectra, and complexity analyses. Notably, the system exhibits coexisting attractors, substantially enhancing its dynamical complexity. Hardware implementation of the 3D-MCM attractors confirms its feasibility for industrial applications. To illustrate the system's potential in encryption tasks, this study integrates the quaternary-based permutation and dynamic emanating diffusion (QPDED-IE) scheme for image encryption with the *** results demonstrate that the QPDED-IE scheme based on the 3D-MCM exhibits strong diffusion and confusion properties, effectively resisting cryptanalytic attacks. © 1991-2012 IEEE.
