The sample selection approach is very popular in learning with noisy labels. As deep networks "learn pattern first", prior methods built on sample selection share a similar training procedure: the small-loss examples can be regarded as clean examples and used for helping generalization, while the large-loss examples are treated as mislabeled ones and excluded from network parameter updates. However, such a procedure is arguably debatable from two folds: (a) it does not consider the bad influence of noisy labels in selected small-loss examples;(b) it does not make good use of the discarded large-loss examples, which may be clean or have meaningful information for generalization. In this paper, we propose regularly truncated M-estimators (RTME) to address the above two issues simultaneously. Specifically, RTME can alternately switch modes between truncated M-estimators and original M-estimators. The former can adaptively select small-losses examples without knowing the noise rate and reduce the side-effects of noisy labels in them. The latter makes the possibly clean examples but with large losses involved to help generalization. Theoretically, we demonstrate that our strategies are label-noise-tolerant. Empirically, comprehensive experimental results show that our method can outperform multiple baselines and is robust to broad noise types and levels. Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) is a promising tool for detecting Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by imaging the retinal microvasculature. Ophthalmologists commonly use region-based analysis, such as the ETDRS grid, to study OCTA image biomarkers and understand the correlation with AD. In this work, we propose a novel deep-learning framework called Polar-Net. Our approach involves mapping OCTA images from Cartesian coordinates to polar coordinates, which allows for the use of approximate sector convolution and enables the implementation of the ETDRS grid-based regional analysis method commonly used in clinical practice. Furthermore, Polar-Net incorporates clinical prior information of each sector region into the training process, which further enhances its performance. Additionally, our framework adapts to acquire the importance of the corresponding retinal region, which helps researchers and clinicians understand the model’s decision-making process in detecting AD and assess its conformity to clinical observations. Through evaluations on private and public datasets, we have demonstrated that Polar-Net outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods and provides more valuable pathological evidence for the association between retinal vascular changes and AD. In addition, we also show that the two innovative modules introduced in our framework have a significant impact on improving overall performance. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Tongue diagnosis plays an essential role in diagnosing the syndrome types, pathological types, lesion location and clinical stages of cancers in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The quality of the tongue image datasets is crucial to tongue image segmentation in modern tongue diagnosis. However, the tongue image dataset maintains a challenging problem because of the lack of datasets for the sublingual image, the complexity and scarcity of the tongue images. In this paper, we propose an effective segmentation framework for tongue images, called Moment Invariants with Data Augmentation (DAMI), which can be flexibly applied to different segmentation models. To overcome over-fitting caused by excessive data augmentation, a data augmentation module with random transformations is designed to achieve appropriate data augmentation. Meanwhile, we develop a new moment invariants module to optimize data augmentation in image segmentation. In addition, a novel tongue image dataset, Lingual-Sublingual Image Dataset (LSID), has been established for the classification and segmentation of tongue or sublingual veins. Experimental results confirm that the models using DAMI can remarkably outperform the existing methods on LID, SID and BioHit for the tongue image segmentation. © 2021 IEEE.

In this paper, the problem of joint transmission and computation resource allocation for probabilistic semantic communication (PSC) network with rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) is investigated. In the considered model, the base station (BS) needs to transmit a large amount of data, which is represented by substantial knowledge graphs, to multiple users. Due to limited communication resource, the BS needs to utilize semantic communication techniques to compress the large-sized data. In this paper, the semantic communication is enabled by shared probability graphs between the BS and users. The process of semantic compression requires computation power at the BS, which has an impact on limited power budget. Therefore, it is necessary to balance the power between transmission and computation. Based on the probability graph, the semantic rate related to semantic compression ratio is first theoretically formulated. Then, the problem is formulated as an optimization problem with the aim of maximizing the sum semantic rate of all users under total power, semantic compression ratio, and rate allocation constraints. To tackle this problem, an iterative algorithm is accordingly proposed to obtain a suboptimal solution. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In brain-computer interface (BCI) systems, users' emotion can be recognized by using electroencephalography (EEG) data. Recent researches proposed different methods for feature extraction and EEG-based emotion classification. However, EEG data collected over time is not always stable and accuracies of emotion recognition are found not robust. In this paper, a novel EEG emotion recognition system is proposed by combining ReliefF for extracting features, and Long Short-Term Memory Network coupled with Support Vector Machine for classification. A public EEG emotion dataset of SEED which contains three different recordings of EEG data is used in the experiments. It is shown that the proposed network is effective for mitigating the phenomenon of unstable accuracies, and achieves higher emotion classification accuracies compared to other approaches using the same dataset.

Traffic classification is an essential part of intelligent network management in Fifth generation (5G) networks, from quality of service guarantees to security monitoring. With the evolution of diverse services and applications over 5G networks, traffic patterns and their implications also becoming more complicated, especially in wireless networks. How to dynamically manage the growing traffic demand and satisfy the quality of service (QoS) needs of new applications is particularly critical. The biggest challenge is how to identify traffic types accurately without application information and manual features. However, the existing deep learning (DL)-based classifiers heavily rely on extensive and high-quality samples, which proves impractical to obtain in wireless networks. To overcome this limitation, we propose an ensemble Learning based traffic classification model to provide accurate identification with small-scale datasets, where Attention-based Long Short-Term Memory Networks are bagged to train this classifier. The ensemble learning approach employs a combinatorial design involving five base models to construct more accurate and robust learning models. This enables effective feature absorption, making it feasible to train classifiers on limited sample sets. Comprehensive experiments are conducted using a real-world dataset covering 16 applications. Results demonstrate that, even with a mere 10% of training samples, our proposed model achieves a classification accuracy of 95.57% and a precision of 95.83%, surpassing multiple cutting-edge methods.

Nowadays, recommender systems are increasingly being exploited in many industrial applications, including virtual museums and movie streaming platforms. In the last few years, some new perspectives provided by research paradigms such as deep learning or quantum computing, have arisen. As a result, this paper identifies four new perspectives on recommender systems: e-health, tourism, deep-learning-based, and recommender systems exploiting quantum computing. After discussing them, the paper provides the current state of the art and highlights the possible future directions for industries.

Semantic Communication (SC) is a novel paradigm for data transmission in 6G. However, there are several challenges posed when performing SC in 3D scenarios: 1) 3D semantic extraction;2) Latent semantic redundancy;and 3) Uncertain channel estimation. To address these issues, we propose a Generative AI Model assisted 3D SC (GAM-3DSC) system. Firstly, we introduce a 3D Semantic Extractor (3DSE), which employs generative AI models, including Segment Anything Model (SAM) and Neural Radiance Field (NeRF), to extract key semantics from a 3D scenario based on user requirements. The extracted 3D semantics are represented as multi-perspective images of the goal-oriented 3D object. Then, we present an Adaptive Semantic Compression Model (ASCM) for encoding these multi-perspective images, in which we use a semantic encoder with two output heads to perform semantic encoding and mask redundant semantics in the latent semantic space, respectively. Next, we design a conditional Generative adversarial network and Diffusion model aided-Channel Estimation (GDCE) to estimate and refine the Channel State information (CSI) of physical channels. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed GAM-3DSC system in effectively transmitting the goal-oriented 3D scenario. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

3D anomaly detection has recently become a significant focus in computer vision. Several advanced methods have achieved satisfying anomaly detection performance. However, they typically concentrate on the external structure of 3D samples and struggle to leverage the internal information embedded within samples. Inspired by the basic intuition of why not look inside for more, we introduce a straightforward method named Internal Spatial Modality Perception (ISMP) to explore the feature representation from internal views fully. Specifically, our proposed ISMP consists of a critical perception module, Spatial Insight Engine (SIE), which abstracts complex internal information of point clouds into essential global features. Besides, to better align structural information with point data, we propose an enhanced key point feature extraction module for amplifying spatial structure feature representation. Simultaneously, a novel feature filtering module is incorporated to reduce noise and redundant features for further aligning precise spatial structure. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving object-level and pixel-level AUROC improvements of 4.2% and 13.1%, respectively, on the Real3D-AD benchmarks.
