Multiwavelet has some important properties such as orthogonality, symmetry, and short support, which make up for the shortcoming of scalar wavelet. In this paper, we consider the problem of improving the performance of multiwavelet-based image coders combining human visual syetem (HVS). By taking into account the imperfections inherent to the HVS, HVS weighting is designed to achieve higher compression rate and minimizing distortion due to compression. After multiwavelet transform, coefficients in different subbands are weighted directly by the band-average of the contrast sensitivity function (CSF) curve in the normalized spatial frequency domain, at last multiwavelet-based set partitioning in hierarchical trees (MSPIHT) algorithm is used to code forming embedded bit stream. Experimental results showed our proposed image compression algorithm can get better subject visual quality than the conventional MSPIHT algorithm at the same compression ratio.

The time-interleaved sampling technique, which can reduce the requirement to the speed of ADCs by using parallel operation of multiple ADCs, has become a practical solution for high speed data acquisition. To further reduce the quantity of the acquired data for frequency-sparse signals, this paper presents a new data acquisition and compression method combining time-interleaved sampling technique with Compressed Sampling (CS) theory. We implement synchronous data compression using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device, in which the asynchronous data streams are first synchronized through multistage buffering method and then compressed by CS approach. An important strength of this method lies in that the entire design is synchronized by a common clock, which allows the circuit to work at a high rate. From the perspective of data stream, we obtain a compressed data steam at a sub-Nyquist rate which reduces the load of storage and transmission significantly. The simulation experiments verify that the original signal can be recovered exactly from the compressed data with overwhelming probability. © 2012 IEEE.

Vehicle license plate recognition has complex characteristics due to diverse effects as the fog, rain, shadows, irregular illumination conditions, partial occlusion, variable distances, cars' velocity, scene's angle and others. License-plate location in sensor images plays an important role in vehicle identification for automated transport systems. For the extraction of positioning in license plate recognition system, traditional Roberts operator and morphological edge detection algorithm exist the interference of image noise and low edge resolution. This paper proposes a new algorithm for vehicle license plate location based on edge detection and mathematical morphology. Roberts operator added two direction template can compensate the breaks of the edge and make it fully connected together. Then detect edge by selecting the appropriate threshold for Roberts operator and utilize morphological analysis to obtain candidate regions of license plate, analyze candidate regions by connected component, finally position plate region. The experimental results show that the algorithm can well suppress the impact of noise on the identification of the target area in the image, but also shorten the time of license plate location, valid license plate positioning.

In recent years, image fusion has become the focus of image processing. For the fusion problems of the multifocus images with the same scence, this paper proposed a new fusion method based on nonsampled contourlet transform(NSCT). Firstly, source images are decomposed in different scales and directions by NSCT, thus the low frequency subband coefficients and the high frequency subband coefficients are obtained. Secondly, for the low frequency subband coefficients, we present a fusion rule based on the local entropy; while for the high frequency subband coefficients, a fusion rule based on the directional contrast combined with the local area energy is applied. Finally, the fused image is obtained through the inverse NSCT. Compared with the fusion method based wavelet and other fusion methods, the experiments show that this approach can achieve better results than them.

CoMP is one of the key technologies in LTE-Advanced, through sharing data and channel information between multiple cells, the user performance at cell edge can be more effectively improved compared to the traditional single cell communication mechanism of the LTE system. Among the existing CoMP technology, the CS/CB-CoMP technology based on hidden channel state/statistical information is the most suitable for deployment in LTE systems, and is easier for real implementation. This article studied a novel CoMP algorithm based on PMI set feedback, while some technologies descriptions in 3GPP were used as assistance in this procedure. The complete implementation detail of this algorithm was described, and its performance was verified by conducting system-level simulations, which showed that the CS/CB CoMP technology based on the proposed algorithm can improve the user performance at cell edge effectively, with less feedback information required. © 2012 IEEE.

In modern industry, the requirement of the accuracy of gear measuring instruments is higher and higher. In order to solve the transmission error of Ball screws, based on ACR9000 motion controller, in this paper, we design a direct drive control system of gear measuring center, and develop the underlying database software of the controller and host computer communication link library software. Experiments results show that the system has very good improvements on the control ability and control accuracy compared to the old one. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of cooperative multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system is analyzed and two thresholds for decode-and-forward (DF) cooperative network are proposed. While the two thresholds are satisfied, the cooperative network may achieve a notable improvement of BER performance compared with the non-cooperative network. The analysis and simulation results show that the average BER of cooperation with the two thresholds is much lower than traditional cooperation, and the average BER of cooperation with only threshold one is almost the same as the former scheme and it is much easier to implement.

In order to resolve the detection problem of coal mine gas content detection, and ensure the personal safety under the ground, we design the gas content detection system which based on the technology of ZigBee. The system includes two functional models, which are ZigBee and gas sensor. We can control the system functional model by computer net, which can realize the radio transmit by use of ZigBee technology. It can real-time work, and the precise high, transmit far away. The system hardware is simple, operate easily, cost cheap, which can be used in coal mine and safety detection. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

To improve the sampling density and the sampling speed of the structured light 3D measurement, the spatiotemporal projection patterns of two color stripes were introduced in this paper. Both of projection patterns were spatial coding with the color strips, and within two patterns were time coding. The 3D measurement was achieved by projecting only these two patterns. And a novel code-encoding method based on the stripe center and edge was proposed. The strip centers were obtained by conventional approach as the sample points, and at the same time the strip edge was also detected as the sample points. The sample density of 3D measurement was increased by all sample points. Computer simulation shows that plane, spherical and irregular surface can be measured and reconstructed with the help of 3dsmax software. In addition, 3D measurement and reconstruction trials were implemented on the experimental appliance of turbine blade. It has demonstrated that the proposed spatiotemporal projection patterns can enhance the measurement efficiency and the accuracy, while the strip center and edge code-encoding methodology can achieve the sampling in 80ms and increase the sampling density twice.
