It was reported that cancer cells could biologically respond and adapt to the confined environment during migration in extracellular matrix (ECM). But it is not clearly studied that how cancer cells respond and adapt to confined environment in mechanical way. Thus, in this study, we designed and fabricated a kind of one-layer micro channel to mimic confined environment for analyzing mechanical adaption of cell. This micro channel could apply sequential mechanical stresses on a number of cells with high throughput, and the time of cells passing through five rows of micro channels were used to evaluate their adaptability to the sequential and confined space. In experiments, each cell suffered 20 times of mechanical stresses after passing through 20 squeezing channels arranged in 5 rows. We observed the sequential squeezing processes under microscope and investigated the passing time using a high-speed camera. The preliminary results indicated that cancer cells could pass through and adapt to the confined environment faster than normal cells.

Operating in narrow spaces is an important challenge in the development of robots. Redundant manipulators are one way to solve this problem, but their mechanism design and control method still have much room for improvement. In this paper, we propose a coiled cable-conduit-driven hyper-redundant manipulator (C-CDHRM) with great slenderness and flexibility. In terms of mechanism design, it considers both compactness and operability. By imitating the structure and behavior of a constricting snake, it can be uncoiled sequentially from a coiled storage state, led by the head. In terms of control methods, we propose a multi-layer control system that can make remote operations more accurate and reliable. On the one hand, guiding, segmenting, and following the path overcome the planning ambiguity caused by redundancy. On the other hand, conduit transmission modeling and cable length correction overcome the nonlinear mapping of cable-driven joints and were verified in experiments. Through tests, the mobile integrated system composed of C-CDHRM has an excellent performance in operation precision and accuracy, ensuring safety and accessibility in narrow spaces. Finally, in field experiments, the inspection and cleaning of various types of electrical equipment have been successfully completed, showing excellent application prospects.

The rapid development of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communications calls for highly spectral efficient communication techniques under time-selective channels. Spatial modulation (SM) facilitates flexible trade-off between spectral and energy efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel modulation technique based on SM for V2X, which discards the requirement of channel state information (CSI) at the receiver and exhibits enhanced robustness against time-selective fading and Doppler effects. Our proposed scheme tailors differential modulation to SM and is named differential spatial modulation (DSM). Monte Carlo simulations are carried out to demonstrate the advantage of the new scheme in terms of bit error rate (BER) performance for both point-to-point and dual-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying systems in V2X channels.

In this paper we consider a problem in task execution for multi-robot trajectory planning with collision avoidance in a shared working environment. Consider two or more robots generating trajectories towards their respective goal positions. The collision may occur if their trajectory coordinates are intersecting at a point or follow the same path segment simultaneously. The central planner is introduced to control robot motion in the collision state and to reduce the complexity of the multi-robot path planning system. The global path for every robot is generated by the $\mathrm{A}^{*}$ algorithm in a grid-based environment. The path has presented a sequence of optimal grid numbers and later transformed into Cartesian coordinates for smooth trajectory generation. The central planner takes an optimal grid sequence for every robot to analyze the collision state according to its cost value. It regenerates the trajectories to minimize the complexity cost value and replaces the previous trajectory based on minimum cost value. In the collision state, the central planner allows one robot at a time to pass along the conflict path segment and hold others in queue at a safety offset distance until the previous robot passes safely. The algorithm has been applied to robots working in a shared environment in complex maps and the simulations is performed with MATLAB to calculate the efficiency of this approach for handling collision states in a multi-robot path planning system.

We address robust stabilization problem for networked control systems with nonlinear uncertainties and packet losses by modelling such systems as a class of uncertain switched systems. Based on theories on switched Lyapunov functions, we derive the robustly stabilizing conditions for state feedback stabilization and design packet-loss dependent controllers by solving some matrix inequalities. A numerical example and some simulations are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

Online progressive instance-balanced sampling for weakly supervised object detection

Based on multiple instance detection networks (MIDN), plenty of works have contributed tremendous efforts to weakly supervised object detection (WSOD). However, most methods neglect the fact that the overwhelming negative instances exist in each image during the training phase, which would mislead the training and make the network fall into local minima. To tackle this problem, an online progressive instance-balanced sampling (OPIS) algorithm based on hard sampling and soft sampling is proposed in this paper. The algorithm includes two modules: a progressive instance balance (PIB) module and a progressive instance reweighting (PIR) module. The PIB module combining random sampling and IoU-balanced sampling progressively mines hard negative instances while balancing positive instances and negative instances. The PIR module further utilizes classifier scores and IoUs of adjacent refinements to reweight the weights of positive instances for making the network focus on positive instances. Extensive experimental results on the PASCAL VOC 2007 and 2012 datasets demonstrate the proposed method can significantly improve the baseline, which is also comparable to many existing state-of-the-art results. In addition, compared to the baseline, the proposed method requires no extra network parameters and the supplementary training overheads are small, which could be easily integrated into other methods based on the instance classifier refinement paradigm. 3D face reconstruction from a single 2D facial image is a challenging and concerned problem. Recent methods based on CNN typically aim to learn parameters of 3D Morphable Model (3DMM) from 2D images to render face alignment and 3D face reconstruction. Most algorithms are designed for faces with small, medium yaw angles, which is extremely challenging to align faces in large poses. At the same time, they are not efficient usually. The main challenge is that it takes time to determine the parameters accurately. In order to address this challenge with the goal of improving performance, this paper proposes a novel and efficient end-to-end framework. We design an efficient and lightweight network model combined with Depthwise Separable Convolution and Muti-scale Representation, Lightweight Attention Mechanism, named Mobile-FRNet. Simultaneously, different loss functions are used to constrain and optimize 3DMM parameters and 3D vertices during training to improve the performance of the network. Meanwhile, extensive experiments on the challenging datasets show that our method significantly improves the accuracy of face alignment and 3D face reconstruction. Model parameters and complexity of our method are also improved greatly.

Calibration of simulation system is an important step to establish a reliable simulation system. In this paper, based on the existing mean field calibration theory, a new fast calibration method for complex urban traffic system based on mean field method is discussed by establishing the relationship between the macroscopic observation quantity and the proxy microscopic parameters. This method makes use of the machine learning method, and reduces the dimension of the state vector in the discrete time period, so that the dimension of the macroscopic state transition matrix is lower, and then reduces the computational complexity of the system calibration. Finally, the calibration results of the simulation system were verified by SUMO traffic simulation software.

Detecting safety clothing and helmets is paramount for ensuring the safety of construction workers. However, the development of deep learning models in this domain has been impeded by the scarcity of high-quality datasets. In this study, we construct a large, complex, and realistic safety clothing and helmet detection (SFCHD) dataset. SFCHD is derived from two authentic chemical plants, comprising 12,373 images, 7 categories, and 50,552 annotations. We partition the SFCHD dataset into training and testing sets with a ratio of 4:1 and validate its utility by applying several classic object detection algorithms. Furthermore, drawing inspiration from spatial and channel attention mechanisms, we design a spatial and channel attention-based low-light enhancement (SCALE) module. SCALE is a plug-and-play component with a high degree of flexibility. Extensive evaluations of the SCALE module on both the ExDark and SFCHD datasets have empirically demonstrated its efficacy in enhancing the performance of detectors under low-light conditions.
