The time-varying contact states at the contact interface introduced local nonlinear mechanical behaviors of the bolted joint rotor, especially under varying speed condition. In this study, a lateral-torsional coupled dynamic model of a bolted joint rotor system is established using the lumped mass method, and the Iwan model is employed to characterize the interface contact behavior. The influence of contact mechanics on the dynamic characteristics of the rotor system is investigated under both steady-state and speed-up conditions. The results show that lateral contact leads to the appearance of lateral self-excited vibration frequencies in the lateral waterfall diagrams, as well as combined frequencies related to lateral self-excited vibrations in the torsional waterfall diagrams. Furthermore, acceleration introduces additional unbalanced forces, which enhance lateral-torsional coupling, while lower acceleration intensifies stiffness softening and reduces the critical speed. Finally, the simulation results are validated through experiments conducted on a bolted joint rotor test rig. This study proposes a lateral-torsional coupled dynamic model for bolted joint rotors considering interface contact, providing theoretical guidance for the dynamic design and analysis of such rotating machinery.
