The wear behaviours of G20CrNi2MoA carburised steel under different temperature

The wear behaviours of G20CrNi2MoA carburised steel under different temperature was investigated in this work. The microstructure and morphology of the worn surface and cross-section of the specimen were characterised by scanning electron microscope (SEM). It is found that the average friction coefficient increases from 0.464 to 0.563 and the wear rate increases from 3.0 × 10–6 mm3N–1m–1 to 21.1 × 10–6 mm3N–1m–1 with the increase of temperature from room temperature (RT) to 200oC. The percentage of oxygen content on the worn surface increases from 11.66% to 36.12% with the increasing temperature, and the main wear mechanism changed from abrasive wear to oxidation wear. The average diameter of the carbides at the subsurface increases from 0.16 μm to 0.24 μm with the increase of temperature. Additionally, the micro crack and voids can be found around the large carbides at 200oC, resulting in the increase of wear rate. Copyright © 2020 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Deformation characteristics analysis of the fineblanking-extrusion flanging process

Nowadays, lots of flanging parts formed with the sheet metal have been widely used in the automotive industry. The fineblanked-extrusion flanging process can be used to fabricate the sheet metal flanging parts with high surface quality, high dimensional accuracy and production efficiency when compared with the conventional hole flanging process. In this paper, the process parameters were mathematically analyzed firstly, and the relationship between the punch displacements in fineblanking process H 1 and in extrusion process H 4 was presented. Then, a finite element model was created and verified by comparing with the experimental result. Using the valid finite element model, the forming load, metal flow, and damage distributions during the forming process were comprehensively analyzed, and the relationship between the workpiece thickness, flange wall thickness and the flange height has been revealed. Based on these simulation results, the deformation mechanism of the fineblanked-extrusion flanging process was revealed.

Lithium-ion capacitors (LICs) offer higher power density and longer cycle life compared to lithium-ion batteries, and greater energy density than supercapacitors, making them ideal for applications requiring both high energy and power density. However, during high-rate charging, LIC anodes may suffer from lithium plating, a critical issue that remains unaddressed. To date, no direct analytical technique exists to study lithium plating behavior on LIC anodes. This study is the first to employ a 3-electrode pouch-type LICs, using differential analysis of the anode potential rather than the traditional terminal voltage approach, to accurately detect the charging rates at which lithium plating begins. We employed differential charging voltage (DCV), Coulombic efficiency (CE), and voltage relaxation profile (VRP) methods to comprehensively analyze lithium plating behavior. The feasibility of indirectly detecting lithium plating was validated by applying the CE and VRP methods to high-capacity 1100 F LICs. The study found that lithium plating in LICs begins at a charging current of 20C. The lithium deposited at currents below 50C is reversible, while at currents above 50C, irreversible dead lithium is formed. Furthermore, the study identified two reverse reactions following lithium deposition on the anode: lithium stripping and lithium intercalation. For soft carbon anodes, the potential difference between lithium stripping and intercalation was approximately 20 mV under relaxation conditions, and about 45 mV under constant voltage conditions. This research provides critical theoretical insights and practical guidance for optimizing LIC charging strategies.

The time-varying contact states at the contact interface introduced local nonlinear mechanical behaviors of the bolted joint rotor, especially under varying speed condition. In this study, a lateral-torsional coupled dynamic model of a bolted joint rotor system is established using the lumped mass method, and the Iwan model is employed to characterize the interface contact behavior. The influence of contact mechanics on the dynamic characteristics of the rotor system is investigated under both steady-state and speed-up conditions. The results show that lateral contact leads to the appearance of lateral self-excited vibration frequencies in the lateral waterfall diagrams, as well as combined frequencies related to lateral self-excited vibrations in the torsional waterfall diagrams. Furthermore, acceleration introduces additional unbalanced forces, which enhance lateral-torsional coupling, while lower acceleration intensifies stiffness softening and reduces the critical speed. Finally, the simulation results are validated through experiments conducted on a bolted joint rotor test rig. This study proposes a lateral-torsional coupled dynamic model for bolted joint rotors considering interface contact, providing theoretical guidance for the dynamic design and analysis of such rotating machinery.

Study on Side Collision of Battery Boxes Based on HyperWorks

To effectively improve the safety of battery boxes in side collision of electric vehicles, two measures are proposed: Firstly spread the boss evenly around the battery box. Secondly the upper and lower parts of the battery box are matched with the convex heads and groove structure. The finite element models of the battery boxes before and after the optimization, the vehicle and the movable barrier are established in this paper. According to the collision regulations, the side collision simulation of the vehicle body is carried out. The changes of the stress, deformation and lateral acceleration of the battery boxes are analyzed. The effectiveness of the measures is verified. The extrusion models of the battery boxes are established. The deformation and the changes of the internal energy of the battery boxes are analyzed. The effectiveness of the measures is verified again.

Mechanical behaviors and energy absorption properties of Y/Cr and Ce/Cr coated open-cell nickel-based alloy foams

In this study, Y-and Ce-modified Cr coatings applied by pack cementation method were prepared on the surface of open-cell nickel-based alloy foam. The morphologies and microstructures of Y- and Ce-modified Cr coatings with various Y and Ce contents were investigated in detail. Then, the effects of Y and Ce addition on the mechanical properties of open-cell nickel-based alloy foams were analyzed and compared. Simultaneously, the energy absorption capacity and energy absorption efficiency of the Y- and Ce-modified Cr coated alloy foams were discussed and compared at the room and high temperatures. The results show that Cr coatings containing minor amounts of rare earth element （Y and Ce） are well adhered to the nickel-based foam struts. Especially, the microstructure of the 2 wt% Ce-modified Cr coating is denser and uniform. In addition, the compressive strength and plateau stress of Y- and Ce-modified Cr coated alloy foams firstly increase and then decrease by increasing the Y and Ce contents at room and high temperatures. The energy absorption capacity of Y/Cr and Ce/Cr coated alloy foams increases linearly with the strains increasing. The Ce/Cr coated alloy foams can absorb more energy than Y/Cr coated alloy foams in the plateau and densification regions at room temperature. Compared to those at room temperature, the Y- and Ce-modified Cr coated alloy foams show higher energy absorption efficiency when deforma- tion within 10%-30% at high temperature.

Effects of process parameters on morphology and distribution of externally solidified crystals in microstructure of magnesium alloy die castings

During the cold-chamber high pressure die casting(HPDC) process, samples were produced to investigate the microstructure characteristics of AM60B magnesium alloy. Special attention was paid to the effects of process parameters on the morphology and distribution of externally solidified crystals(ESCs) in the microstructure of magnesium alloy die castings, such as slow shot phase plunger velocity, delay time of pouring and fast shot phase plunger velocity. On the basis of metallographic observation and quantitative statistics, it is concluded that a lower slow shot phase plunger velocity and a longer delay time of pouring both lead to an increment of the size and percentage of the ESCs, due to the fact that a longer holding time of the melt in the shot sleeve will cause a more severe loss of the superheat. The impingement of the melt flow on the ESCs is more intensive with a higher fast shot phase plunger velocity, in such case the ESCs reveal a more granular and roundish morphology and are dispersed throughout the cross section of the castings. Based on analysis of the filling and solidification processes of the melt during the HPDC process, reasonable explanations were proposed in terms of the nucleation, growth, remelting and fragmentation of the ESCs to interpret the effects of process parameters on the morphology and distribution of the ESCs in the microstructure of magnesium alloy die castings.

The micro-perforated panel(MPP)structure has been widely used in various noise control applications,and thus its acoustic performance prediction has been receiving increasing *** acoustic performance of simple MPP structures,such as a MPPsound absorber,has been predicted using an analytical calculation ***,this is not a suitable approach toward predicting the acoustic performance of complicated MPP structures,owing to the structural complexity of these ***,the many perforations of submillimeter scale diameter render the MPP structures very difficult to analyze using numerical ***,this study focused on two different simplified MPP simulation methods:the transfer admittance method and the equivalent fluid method,and their application on double-layer MPP *** on the two simplified MPP simulation methods,the transmission loss value of the double-layer MPP mufflers with two sets of different structural parameters was calculated,*** predicted results were compared with the impedance tube *** results revealed that the two simplified MPP simulation methods could effectively predict the acoustic performance of doublelayer MPP ***,the prediction based on the transfer admittance method can outperform the two simplified simulation methods.
