Fake news often spreads rapidly on social media in various forms, exposing users to a large amount of misinformation and disinformation. Recently, promising results have been achieved in fake news detection. However, most of the approaches only consider one-hop neighborhood information in cross-modal mapping relationships or focus mainly on pairwise interactions of multimodal fake news. However, the fine-grained feature mapping of multimodal fake news may go beyond binary relations. To address these issues, we propose a Multi-Hop Attention Diffusion Graph Neural Networks in this work to capture and complement the multivariate mapping relationships between fine-grained features, while extracting cross-modal higher-order alignment representations for multimodal fake news detection via cross-modal contrastive learning and modal matching. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in the multimodal fake news detection task. © 2025 IEEE.

The promptness of decision-making is of paramount importance in coordinate decision-making communication systems. In this paper, we envision a system in which a sender transmits information to a receiver for decision-making. The decision-making process encompasses the extraction of decision-related information followed by subsequent computation. To assess the impact of communication delays, randomness of decision-making and computational time on the immediacy of decisions, we introduce a novel performance metric, namely the age of decision (AoD). Specifically, AoD is defined as the time elapsed since the generation of the update upon which the most recent decision is based. Considering the stochastic nature of decision-making, we analyze the average peak AoD in systems where the arrival and service processes follow general processes or Poisson processes. To facilitate our derivations, we introduce the concept of effective decisions to denote those decisions that can lead to the system's peak AoD. Simulation results confirm the validity of our derivations and illustrate that appropriately increasing the rate of decision-making can significantly reduce the system's average peak AoD. © 2024 IEEE.

Dynamic graphs (DG) represent evolving interactions between entities in various real-world scenarios. Many existing DG representation learning models employ a combination of graph convolutional networks and sequence neural networks to capture spatial-temporal dependencies. However, this hybrid approach often fails to effectively capture the spatial-temporal continuity inherent in DGs. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called the Tensor Graph Convolutional Network (TGCN) to learn DG representations within a unified convolution framework based on tensor products. Our approach is founded on two key principles: (a) representing DG information in tensor form, and (b) leveraging tensor product operations to design a graph convolutional network that simultaneously models spatial and temporal features. Experimental results on three real-world DG datasets demonstrate that our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Deep learning-based algorithms, e.g., convolutional networks, have significantly facilitated multivariate time series classification (MTSC) task. Nevertheless, they suffer from the limitation in modeling long-range dependence due to the nature of convolution operations. Recent advancements have shown the potential of transformers to capture long-range dependence. However, it would incur severe issues, such as fixed scale representations, temporal-invariant and quadratic time complexity, with transformers directly applicable to the MTSC task because of the distinct properties of time series data. To tackle these issues, we propose FormerTime, an hierarchical representation model for improving the classification capacity for the MTSC task. In the proposed FormerTime, we employ a hierarchical network architecture to perform multi-scale feature maps. Besides, a novel transformer encoder is further designed, in which an efficient temporal reduction attention layer and a well-informed contextual positional encoding generating strategy are developed. To sum up, FormerTime exhibits three aspects of merits: (1) learning hierarchical multi-scale representations from time series data, (2) inheriting the strength of both transformers and convolutional networks, and (3) tacking the efficiency challenges incurred by the self-attention mechanism. Extensive experiments performed on 10 publicly available datasets from UEA archive verify the superiorities of the FormerTime compared to previous competitive baselines. © 2023 ACM.

In 316L austenitic stainless steel,the presence of ferrite phase severely affects the non-magnetic properties.316L austenitic stainless steel with low-alloy type(L-316L)and high-alloy type(H-316L)has been *** microstructure and solidification kinetics of the two as-cast grades were in situ observed by high temperature confocal laser scanning microscopy(HT-CLSM).There are significant differences in the as-cast microstructures of the two 316L stainless steel *** L-316L steel,ferrite morphology appears as the short rods with a ferrite content of 6.98%,forming a dual-phase microstructure consisting of austenite and ***,in H-316L steel,the ferrite appears as discontinuous network structures with a content of 4.41%,forming a microstructure composed of austenite and sigma(σ)*** alloying elements in H-316L steel exhibit a complex distribution,with Ni and Mo enriching at the austenite grain ***-CLSM experiments provide the real-time observation of the solidification processes of both 316L specimens and reveal distinct solidification modes:L-316L steel solidifies in an FA mode,whereas H-316L steel solidifies in an AF *** differences result in ferrite and austenite predominantly serving as the nucleation and growth phases,*** solidification mode observed by experiments is similar to the thermodynamic calculation *** L-316L steel solidified in the FA mode and showed minimal element segregation,which lead to a direct transformation of ferrite to austenite phase(δ→γ)during phase transformation after ***,the H-316L steel solidified in the AF mode and showed severe element segregation,which lead to Mo enrichment at grain boundaries and transformation of ferrite into sigma and austenite phases through the eutectoid reaction(δ→σ+γ).

Multi-scale variability of internal solitary wave speed in the Sulu Sea

Internal solitary waves(ISWs)have considerable energy to drive the mixing of water masses in the Sulu *** propagation speed is one of the critical parameters in quantifying the energy budget of the *** collected 1354 groups of ISWs’speeds from tandem satellite remote sensing images with temporal intervals shorter than 25 min and analyzed their spatial and multi-scale temporal variations in the Sulu *** found that water depth plays an important role in modulating the spatial variation of wave speeds,which increase exponentially with water depth with a power of *** currents,ocean stratification,background circulation,and climate affect the temporal variations of wave speeds from days to months or *** fortnightly spring/neap tidal currents cause daily variations of wave speeds up to 40%by modulating the ISW *** addition to the well-accepted results that monthly variations of wave speeds are related to density stratification,we found that enhanced stratification increases wave speeds,and the background circulation leads to a maximum decrease of 0.27 m/s in the linear counterparts of wave ***,the averaged wave speed collected in October is lower than the corresponding linear one possibly due to some unknown dynamical processes or underestimation of background *** for the interannual variations,we show that wave speed increases in La Niña years and decreases in El Niño years as a result of the climatic modulation on the depth of the maximum value of buoyancy frequency.

A Classifier-Ensemble-Based Surrogate-Assisted Evolutionary Algorithm for Distributed data-Driven Optimization

Surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have achieved effective performance in solving complex data-driven optimization problems. In the Internet of Things environment, the data of many problems are collected and processed in distributed network nodes and cannot be transmitted. As each local node can only access and build surrogate models based on partial data, local models are usually not accurate and even conflicting. To address these challenges, this article proposes a classifier-ensemble-based surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm (CESAEA) with the following features. First, the local nodes in CESAEA train classifiers as surrogate models based on their own data to classify candidates into several levels according to their fitness quality. The classifiers are less sensitive to the partial and biased data than regression models in local nodes. Second, the central node in CESAEA ensembles the local surrogates to form a global classifier with a relaxation condition to guide the evolutionary optimizer to generate promising candidates. The relaxation condition helps to overcome the problem of local model inconsistency. Overall, CESAEA is composed of local classifier construction, global classifier ensemble, classifier-assisted evolutionary optimization and local regression-assisted selection. As only classifiers are allowed to transmit from local nodes to the central node, the mapping relationship between decision vector and objective is hidden and thus data privacy is protected. The experimental results on benchmark functions as well as distributed feature selection problems verify the effectiveness of CESAEA compared to several state-of-the-art approaches. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Thermoelectric modules fabricated by traditional welding fall short of achieving optimal conversion efficiencies, primarily due to performance degradation of materials at high temperatures, severe elemental diffusion, and residual thermal stress at the interface. Transient liquid phase bonding enables the realization of joints with high-melting-point compounds at low bonding temperatures, providing a promising solution for achieving "low-temperature bonding and high-temperature service." Owing to the low eutectic point of the solder and high melting points of compounds, we optimize the design of a germanium-telluride-based module at 533 K, which is successfully applied at the hot-side temperature of 773 K. Attributed to high-performance materials and reliable joints, the module realizes a high conversion efficiency of ∼15.1% and remains stable throughout 150 h of service. By adopting the same approach, the low- (Bi2Te3) and high-temperature (half-Heusler) modules are assembled. We provide a promising and general route for the assembly of full-temperature-range thermoelectric devices.

The performance of various tasks of natural language processing has greatly improved with the emergence of large language models. However, there is still much room for improvement in understanding certain specific linguistic phenomena, such as Chinese idioms, which are usually composed of four characters. Chinese idioms are difficult to understand due to semantic gaps between their literal and actual meanings. Researchers have proposed the Chinese idiom reading comprehension task to examine the ability of large language models to represent and understand Chinese idioms. The task requires choosing the correct Chinese idiom from a list of candidates to complete the sentence. The current research mainly focuses on text-based idiom comprehension. Nevertheless, there are many idiom application scenarios that combine images and text, and we believe that the corresponding images are beneficial for the model’s understanding of the idioms. Therefore, to address the above problems, we first construct a large-scale Multimodal Chinese Idiom Reading Comprehension dataset (MChIRC), which contains a total of 44,433 image-text pairs covering 2,926 idioms. Then, we propose a Dual-Contrastive Idiom Graph Network (DCIGN), which employs a dual-contrastive learning module to align the text and image features corresponding to the same Chinese idiom at both coarse and fine levels, while utilizing a graph structure to capture the semantic relationships between idiom candidates. Finally, we use a cross-attention module to fuse multimodal features with graph features of candidate idioms to predict correct answers. The authoritativeness of MChIRC and the effectiveness of DCIGN are demonstrated through a variety of experiments, which provides a new benchmark for the multimodal Chinese idiom reading comprehension task. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***).
