State-space reconstruction is investigated for evaluating the randomness generated by an optically injected semiconductor laser in chaos. The reconstruction of the attractor requires only the emission intensity time series, allowing both experimental and numerical evaluations with good qualitative agreement. The randomness generation is evaluated by the divergence of neighboring states, which is quantified by the time-dependent exponents (TDEs) as well as the associated entropies. Averaged over the entire attractor, the mean TDE is observed to be positive as it increases with the evolution time through chaotic mixing. At a constant laser noise strength, the mean TDE for chaos is observed to be greater than that for periodic dynamics, as attributed to the effect of noise amplification by chaos. After discretization, the Shannon entropies continually generated by the laser for the output bits are estimated in providing a fundamental basis for random bit generation, where a combined output bit rate reaching 200 Gb/s is illustrated using practical tests. Overall, based on the reconstructed states, the TDEs and entropies offer a direct experimental verification of the randomness generated in the chaotic laser.

Micro-expression recognition is always a challenging problem for its quick facial expression. This paper proposed a novel method named 2D Gabor filter and Sparse Representation (2DGSR) to deal with the recognition of micro-expression. In our method, 2D Gabor filter is used for enhancing the robustness of the variations due to increasing the discrimination power. While the sparse representation is applied to deal with the subtlety, and cast recognition as a sparse approximation problem. We compare our method to other popular methods in three spontaneous micro-expression recognition databases. The results show that our method has more excellent performance than other methods.

Light absorption enhancement is very important for improving the power conversion efficiency of a thin film a-Si solar cell. In this paper, a thin-film a-Si solar cell model with double-sided SiO2 particle layers is designed, and then the underlying mechanism of absorption enhancement is investigated by finite difference time domain(FDTD) simulation;finally the feasible experimental scheme for preparing the SiO2 particle layer is discussed. It is found that the top and bottom SiO2 particle layers play an important role in anti-reflection and light trapping, respectively. The light absorption of the cell with double-sided SiO2 layers greatly increases in a wavelength range of 300 nm-800 nm, and the ultimate efficiency increases more than 22% compared with that of the flat device. The cell model with double-sided SiO2 particle layers reported here can be used in varieties of thin film solar cells to further improve their performances.

In neighborhood rough set model, the majority rule based neighborhood classifier (NC) is easy to be misjudged with the increasing of the size of information granules. To remedy this deficiency, we propose a neighborhood collaborative classifier (NCC) based on the idea of collaborative representation based classification (CRC). NCC first performs feature selection with neighborhood rough set, and then instead of solving the classification problem by the majority rule, NCC solves a similar problem with collaborative representation among the neighbors of each unseen sample. Experiments on UCI data sets demonstrate that: 1) Our NCC achieves satisfactory performance in larger neighborhood information granules when compared with NC; 2) NCC reduces the size of dictionary when compared with CRC.
