Datacenter networks suffer unpredictable performance due to a lack of application level bandwidth guarantees. A lot of attentions have been drawn to solve this problem such as how to provide bandwidth guarantees for Virtualized Machines (VMs), proportional bandwidth share among tenants, and high network utilization under peak traffic. However, existing solutions fail to cope with highly dynamic traffic in datacenter networks. In this paper, we consider the effects of large numbers of short flows and massive bursty traffic in the datacenter, and design a novel distributed rate allocation algorithm based on the Logistic model under the control-theoretic framework. The theoretical analysis and experimental results using OpenFlow show that our algorithm not only guarantees the bandwidth for VMs, but also provides fast convergence to efficiency and fairness, and smooth response to bursty traffic.

In this paper, a novel concept of multilayer synthesis and a general framework for texture synthesis method are presented. Within this framework, we first decompose the texture into the supposed pattern layer and material layer in the frequency domain by an E-texton extracting algorithm, then manipulate and extend them respectively according to their own personalities, and finally merge the newly synthesized pattern layer and material layer again to generate the final output. Experiment results show that our method not only greatly improves the synthesis quality for those cases that single-layer synthesis cannot handle well but also provides an ability of achieving various special synthesis effects.

For waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), large quantities of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) are released into environment. In light of their characteristics including complex structures, high metals content and potential hazards, waste PCBs are regarded as the most difficult parts of WEEE to be recycled. Therefore in recent ten years, the issue has attracted much attention from researchers and enterprises. This article reviews the latest processes of waste PCBs developed from laboratories to pilot engineering applications, and presents the most suitable available technology for waste PCBs, typically categorized as manually dismantling and automatic approaches in developing and developed countries, respectively. Towards achieving the better sustainability and recyclability for waste PCBs, nonmetal powder and precious metals should be developed for a deep recovery following mechanical treatment. Additionally, a significant shift is emerging from dismantling for recycling of printed wiring boards, to disassembling for remanufacturing of electronic components, which will indicate that a new paradigm of reclaiming waste PCBs is shaping.
