Transfer-based attacks [1] are a practical method of black-box adversarial attacks in which the attacker aims to craft adversarial examples from a source model that is transferable to the target model. Many empirical works [2-6] have tried to explain the transferability of adversarial examples from different angles. However, these works only provide ad hoc explanations without quantitative analyses. The theory behind transfer-based attacks remains a mystery. This paper studies transfer-based attacks under a unified theoretical framework. We propose an explanatory model, called the manifold attack model, that formalizes popular beliefs and explains the existing empirical results. Our model explains why adversarial examples are transferable even when the source model is inaccurate as observed in Papernot et al. [7]. Moreover, our model implies that the existence of transferable adversarial examples depends on the "curvature" of the data manifold, which further explains why the success rates of transfer-based attacks are hard to improve. ADABOOST is a well-known algorithm in boosting. Schapire and Singer propose, an extension of ADABOOST, named ***, for multi-class classification problems. Kégl shows empirically that *** works better when the classical one-against-all base classifiers are replaced by factorized base classifiers containing a binary classifier and a vote (or code) vector. However, the factorization makes it much more difficult to provide a convergence result for the factorized version of ***. Then, Kégl raises an open problem in COLT 2014 to look for a convergence result for the factorized ***. In this work, we resolve this open problem by presenting a convergence result for *** with factorized multi-class classifiers. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Sparse ridge regression problems play a significant role across various domains. To solve sparse ridge regression, [1] recently proposes an advanced algorithm, Scalable Optimal K-Sparse Ridge Regression (OKRidge), which is both faster and more accurate than existing approaches. However, the absence of theoretical analysis on the error of OKRidge impedes its large-scale applications. In this paper, we reframe the estimation error of OKRidge as a Primary Optimization (PO) problem and employ the Convex Gaussian min-max theorem (CGMT) to simplify the PO problem into an Auxiliary Optimization (AO) problem. Subsequently, we provide a theoretical error analysis for OKRidge based on the AO problem. This error analysis improves the theoretical reliability of OKRidge. We also conduct experiments to verify our theorems and the results are in excellent agreement with our theoretical findings. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Recently, advancements in artificial intelligence technology have greatly influenced the field of education, particularly in the area of intelligent homework assistance. However, current approaches are primarily designed for procedural and logical tasks and often lack comprehension abilities. This limitation is particularly evident when it comes to multi-hop and continuous tasks. To address this challenge, the integration of Large Language Model (LLM) has significantly enhanced the capability of AI systems to handle multi-hop and highly interconnected inputs. In this study, we focus on the learning needs of students in Acting Department, specifically their study of movies and the significance of classic movie videos in their learning process. However, assessing deep comprehension of classic movies poses its own challenges. To overcome these challenges, we develop a quiz system utilizing Knowledge Graphs (KG) and LLM to facilitate a deeper understanding of classic films. The generation of video quiz pairs is achieved through the use of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology, which leverages movie subtitles for question generation. For answering these questions, we employ techniques KG and LLM to process questions and retrieve corresponding answers. The proposed method achieves good performance in Deep Video Understanding (DVU) task of NIST TRECVID, demonstrating its effectiveness. © 2023 IEEE.

Gradual Domain Adaptation (GDA), in which the learner is provided with additional intermediate domains, has been theoretically and empirically studied in many contexts. Despite its vital role in security-critical scenarios, the adversarial robustness of the GDA model remains unexplored. In this paper, we adopt the effective gradual self-training method and replace vanilla self-training with adversarial self-training (AST). AST first predicts labels on the unlabeled data and then adversarially trains the model on the pseudo-labeled distribution. Intriguingly, we find that gradual AST improves not only adversarial accuracy but also clean accuracy on the target domain. We reveal that this is because adversarial training (AT) performs better than standard training when the pseudo-labels contain a portion of incorrect labels. Accordingly, we first present the generalization error bounds for gradual AST in a multiclass classification setting. We then use the optimal value of the Subset Sum Problem to bridge the standard error on a real distribution and the adversarial error on a pseudo-labeled distribution. The result indicates that AT may obtain a tighter bound than standard training on data with incorrect pseudo-labels. We further present an example of a conditional Gaussian distribution to provide more insights into why gradual AST can improve the clean accuracy for GDA. © 2023 Neural information processing systems foundation. The efficient transmission of the audio objects can be achieved by spatial audio object coding (SAOC) method that conveys a mono downmix signal together with side information parameters that enable object reconstruction in the decoder. To allow the transmission of audio objects at low bitrates, we present a new audio coding method with convolutional auto-encoder (CAE) and dense convolutional network (DenseNet) mixture model, optimizing the compression of side information parameters of audio objects. It has two main advantages: 1) Different from the linear transform methods, CAE can dig the nonlinear relationship of side information parameters and can effectively reduce the dimension of side information parameters;2) DenseNet is adding in the decoder to make full use of low dimensional features of side information parameters, which improves the audio quality at low bitrate. Experiments show that our method outperforms baseline methods permitting bitrates as low as 1 kbps per object. © 2021 IEEE

Spatial audio object coding (SAOC) is an effective method to transmit multiple audio objects. Audio systems can provide personalized services under this framework. However, this method causes frequency aliasing distortion, which severely impacts the listening experience. The multi-step SAOC (MS-SAOC) scheme was proposed to enhance the sound quality of each audio object by using residual information. Compared with SAOC, the bit-rate increases three times due to the residual data of multiple objects. In this paper, an efficient multi-step residual coding method is proposed to reduce the residual bit-rate of MS-SAOC. A two-level filter is designed to remove redundant residual information, and the limited residual information can efficiently compensate for frequency aliasing distortion. From experiment results, the residual bit-rate is half of MS-SAOC, and the sound quality is maintained at the Good-Excellent level. © 2021 IEEE

Spatial audio object coding (SAOC) is an effective method to transmit multiple audio objects. It divides the full frequency band into 28 subbands and extracts spatial parameters for decoding. In this way, objects can be encoded into a downmix signal with a few parameters. However, using the same parameters in one subband will cause frequency aliasing distortion, which severely impacts the listening experience. Existing studies to enhance SAOC cannot eliminate the aliasing distortion of all objects effectively. This paper describes a new structure to balance the bit-rate and decode quality based on time-frequency (TF) shifting and scheduling. In this structure, a TF shifting strategy (contains global shifting and local shifting) is proposed to reduce frequency aliasing distortion. Furthermore, a scheduling strategy is used to decide which part should be shifted according to the degree of aliasing. From the experiment results, the performance of the proposed method is better than SAOC and other enhanced methods. © 2021 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown promising performance in text-to-SQL, which involves translating natural language questions into SQL queries. However, current text-to-SQL LLMs are computationally expensive and challenging to deploy in real-world applications, highlighting the importance of compressing them. To achieve this goal, knowledge distillation (KD) is a common approach, which aims to distill the larger teacher model into a smaller student model. While numerous KD methods for autoregressive LLMs have emerged recently, it is still under-explored whether they work well in complex text-to-SQL scenarios. To this end, we conduct a series of analyses and reveal that these KD methods generally fall short in balancing performance and efficiency. In response to this problem, we propose to improve the KD with Imperfect Data, namely KID, which effectively boosts the performance without introducing much training budget. The core of KID is to efficiently mitigate the training-inference mismatch by simulating the cascading effect1 of inference in the imperfect training data. Extensive experiments on 5 text-to-SQL benchmarks show that, KID can not only achieve consistent and significant performance gains (up to +5.83% average score) across all model types and sizes, but also effectively improve the training efficiency. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This paper proposes an unequal error protection（UEP）coding method to improve the transmission performance of three-dimensional（3D）audio based on expanding window fountain（EWF）.Different from other transmissions with equal error protection（EEP）when transmitting the 3D audio *** approach of extracting the important audio object is presented,and more protection is given to more important audio object and comparatively less protection is given to the normal audio *** and subjective experiments have shown that the proposed UEP method achieves better performance than equal error protection method,while the bits error rates（BER）of the important audio object can decrease from 10^（–3） to 10^（–4）,and the subjective quality of UEP is better than that of EEP by 14%.
