Multi-source domain adaptation (MSDA) aims to transfer knowledge from multiple source domains to the unlabeled target domain. In this paper, we propose a cycle self-refinement domain adaptation method, which progressively attempts to learn the dominant transferable knowledge in each source domain in a cycle manner. Specifically, several source-specific networks and a domain-ensemble network are adopted in the proposed method. The source-specific networks are adopted to provide the dominant transferable knowledge in each source domain for instance-level ensemble on predictions of the samples in target domain. Then these samples with high-confidence ensemble predictions are adopted to refine the domain-ensemble network. Meanwhile, to guide each source-specific network to learn more dominant transferable knowledge, we force the features of the target domain from the domain-ensemble network and the features of each source domain from the corresponding source-specific network to be aligned with their predictions from the corresponding networks. Thus the adaptation ability of source-specific networks and the domain-ensemble network can be improved progressively. Extensive experiments on Office-31, Office-Home and DomainNet show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods for most tasks. The Stackelberg prediction game (SPG) is a popular model for characterizing strategic interactions between a learner and an adversarial data provider. Although optimization problems in SPGs are often NP-hard, a notable special case involving the least squares loss (SPG-LS) has gained significant research attention recently [1, 2, 3]. The latest state-of-the-art method for solving the SPG-LS problem is the spherically constrained least squares reformulation (SCLS) method proposed in the work of [3]. However, the paper [3] lacks theoretical analysis on the error of the SCLS method, which limits its large-scale applications. In this paper, we investigate the estimation error between the learner obtained by the SCLS method and the actual learner. Specifically, we reframe the estimation error of the SCLS method as a Primary Optimization (PO) problem and utilize the Convex Gaussian min-max theorem (CGMT) to transform the PO problem into an Auxiliary Optimization (AO) problem. Subsequently, we provide a theoretical error analysis for the SCLS method based on this simplified AO problem. This analysis not only strengthens the theoretical framework of the SCLS method but also confirms the reliability of the learner produced by it. We further conduct experiments to validate our theorems, and the results are in excellent agreement with our theoretical predictions. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Backdoor attacks pose a serious threat to federated systems, where malicious clients optimize on the triggered distribution to mislead the global model towards a predefined target. Existing backdoor defense methods typically require either homogeneous assumption, validation datasets, or client optimization conflicts. In our work, we observe that benign heterogeneous distributions and malicious triggered distributions exhibit distinct parameter importance degrees. We introduce the Fisher Discrepancy Cluster and Rescale (FDCR) method, which utilizes Fisher Information to calculate the degree of parameter importance for local distributions. This allows us to reweight client parameter updates and identify those with large discrepancies as backdoor attackers. Furthermore, we prioritize rescaling important parameters to expedite adaptation to the target distribution, encouraging significant elements to contribute more while diminishing the influence of trivial ones. This approach enables FDCR to handle backdoor attacks in heterogeneous federated learning environments. Empirical results on various heterogeneous federated scenarios under backdoor attacks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Real-time video streaming over wireless links imposes strong demands on video codecs and quality of networks. Many measures are made to design proper routing protocols and channel assignments (CAs) for multi-channel multi-interface (MCMI) wireless networks, since it can provide higher performance than single channel. However, there still has not been a well-studied proposal to guarantee real-time video quality in this situation. Hence, it motivates us to explore the potential synergies of exchanging information between different layers to support real-time video streaming over MCMI wireless networks. In this article we jointly consider three layers of the protocol stack: the application, data link and physical layers, and propose an adaptive cross-layer mechanism for real-time video streaming (ACMRV) used in this scenario, which includes both an efficient CA and an adaptive FEC mechanism. We analyze the performance of the proposed architecture and extensively evaluate it via NS-2. The results show that the real-time video quality can be greatly improved by our proposal. © 2010 IEEE.

Head related transfer function (HRTF) is the main technique of binaural synthesis, which is used to reconstruct spatial sound image, and the HRTF data only can be obtained by measurement. A high resolution HRTF database contains too many HRTFs, the workload of measurement is too huge to be finished. As a solution, in order to calculate new HRTF by measured HRTFs, many researchers concentrate on the interpolation of HRTF. But, before interpolating, HRTFs should be aligned because there is time delay between different HRTFs. Some researchers try to implement aligning operation based on phase, but themethod is not appropriate since the periodicity of phase. Another idea to align HRTFs is by detecting method, however, the time difference is too tiny to detect exactly. None of the methods can provide a good and stable performance. In this paper, we propose a new method to align HRTFs based on correlation. And the experiments show that the proposed aligning method improves the accuracy index SDR 18.5 dB for the most, furthermore, the proposed method could improve the accuracy for all positions. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

Driven by the growing amount of surveillance video data, intelligent video analysis has been applied to manipulate the stored videos automatically. As the most important method of video storage, the conventional coding method with high compression ratio severely degrades the video quality, which restrict the performance of intelligent analysis. In this paper, we propose an analysis-oriented region of interest (ROI) based coding approach to relieve this problem. We qualitatively analyze the effect of video compression on the performance of video analysis, such as feature similarity and object detection. Based on the analysis, we generate the ROI by the prior knowledge of interest objects rather than considering the characteristics of Human Visual System (HVS). Then, a weight-based rate control scheme is proposed to protect the quality of ROI by assigning more bits to encode it. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can reach 5.52% and 4.39% gains average over HEVC on the performance of feature similarity and object detection respectively under the same bitrate. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

As a new manufacturing paradigm, cloud manufacturing transforms the traditional manufacturing business model, in which distributed resources belonged to different enterprises are encapsulated into cloud services. Clients can use cloud services according to their requirements, viz., clients can build up their own ondemand production service networks. However, it is quite difficult for clients to select reliable and high-quality service nodes to organize the production service network because of the existence of malicious, fake, untrue, and dynamic service nodes in the cloud manufacturing environment. The trustworthy cloud manufacturing environment is a prerequisite to implementation of cloud manufacturing. The reliable evaluation for trust works as a compass for building the trustworthy cloud manufacturing environment. In this paper, the trust measurement is discussed in cloud manufacturing environment and the trustworthy environment will be built up with this evaluation mechanism. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

AODV protocol is a comparatively mature on-demand routing protocol in mobile ad hoc networks. However, the traditional AODV protocol seems less than satisfactory in terms of delivery reliability. This paper presents an AODV with reliable delivery (AODV-RD), a link failure fore-warning mechanism, metric of alternate node in order to better select, and also repairing action after primary route breaks basis of AODV-BR. Performance comparison of AODV-RD with AODV-BR and traditional AODV using ns-2 simulations shows that AODV-RD significantly increases packet delivery ratio(PDR). AODV-RD has a much shorter end-to-end delay than AODV-BR. It both optimizes the network performance and guarantees the communication quality. © 2009 IEEE.

Detecting the salient regions, namely locating the key regions that contain rich clues, is of great significance for better mining and analyzing the crucial information in surveillance videos. Yet, to date, the existed saliency detection methods are mainly designed to fit human perception. Nevertheless, what we value most during in surveillance videos, i.e. criminal investigation attentive objects (CIAOs) such as pedestrians, human faces, vehicles and license plates, is often different from those sensitive to human vision in general situations. In this paper, we proposed criminal investigation oriented saliency detection method for surveillance videos. A criminal investigation attentive model (CIAM) is constructed to score the occurrence probabilities of CIAOs in spatial domain and novelly utilize score to represent saliency, thus making CIAO regions more salient than non-CIAO regions. In addition, we refine the spatial domain saliency map with the motion information in temporal domain to obtain the spatiotemporal saliency map that has high distinctiveness for regions of moving CIAOs, static CIAOs, moving non-CIAOs and static non-CIAOs. Experimental results on surveillance video datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-art saliency detection methods. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

Pedestrian detection at nighttime is a crucial and frontier problem in surveillance, but has not been well explored by the computer vision and artificial intelligence communities. Most of existing methods detect pedestrians under favorable lighting conditions (e.g. daytime) and achieve promising performances. In contrast, they often fail under unstable lighting conditions (e.g. nighttime). Night is a critical time for criminal suspects to act in the field of security. The existing nighttime pedestrian detection dataset is captured by a car camera, specially designed for autonomous driving scenarios. The dataset for nighttime surveillance scenario is still vacant. There are vast differences between autonomous driving and surveillance, including viewpoint and illumination. In this paper, we build a novel pedestrian detection dataset from the nighttime surveillance aspect: NightSurveillance. As a benchmark dataset for pedestrian detection at nighttime, we compare the performances of state-of-the-art pedestrian detectors and the results reveal that the methods cannot solve all the challenging problems of NightSurveillance. We believe that NightSurveillance can further advance the research of pedestrian detection, especially in the field of surveillance security at nighttime. © 2020 Inst. Sci. inf., Univ.
