This paper investigates the performance of three active disturbance-rejection methods: disturbance-observer-based（DOB） control, active disturbance rejection control（ADRC）, and equivalent-input-disturbance-based（EID） control. Compared to the classic feedback control, these methods provide an additional degree of freedom to reject disturbances effectively. First, the disturbance-rejection mechanism of each of the methods is analyzed. For a proper design, the transfer function from disturbances to the output of a system approximates zero using these methods. This implies the effect of disturbances is blocked to the ***, the three methods are applied to the position control of a ball-and-beam system for comparison. The simulation results show that all these methods are insensitive to disturbances and robust to system uncertainties. And the error of the system output is smaller for the EID method than for the DOB and ADRC methods.

The iron and steel industry is the base for the development of national economy. It directly influences the industries of construction, machinery, shipbuilding, automobile, household electrical appliances, etc. The complexity and large uncertainties of the processes in the iron and steel industry make it difficult to establish accurate mathematical models and to control the processes using conventional control methods. On the other hand, since intelligent control does not require an accurate mathematics model, and its control algorithm has self-learning and adaptive ability, this control method is playing an increasingly important role in the iron and steel industry. © 2020, Science Press.

Neimark-Sacker bifurcation of a delay differential equation modeling two-enterprise interaction mechanism is investigated. For the demands of computer simulation applications, the discrete-time two-enterprise interaction model is proposed by using the forward Euler scheme. By discussing the characteristic equation of linearized part, the local stability criterion of the positive fixed point is presented. Time lag is selected as the bifurcation parameter. Then it is demonstrated that variation of time lag may result in Neimark-Sacker bifurcation. Furthermore, derivations for the directions and stability of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation are also given. Finally, we simulate the main results.

Real-time transmission line outage detection is difficult because of partial phasor measurement unit (PMU) deployment and varying outage signal strength. Existing detection approaches focus on monitoring PMU-measured nodal algebraic states, i.e., voltage phase angle and magnitude. The success of such approaches, however, is largely predicated on strong outage signals and the presence of PMUs in the outage location's vicinity. To overcome these limitations, a unified framework is proposed in this work by utilizing both nodal voltage information and generator dynamic states, e.g., rotor angular position. The proposed scheme is shown to be faster and more robust to unknown outage locations through the incorporation of generator dynamics. Using the IEEE 39-bus system simulation data, the proposed scheme's properties and performances compared to existing approaches are presented. The new approach could help improve operators' real-time situational awareness by detecting outages faster and providing a breakdown of outage signals for diagnostic purposes, making future power systems more resilient. In this paper, in order to enhance the infrared target in infrared image and retain the edge and detail information in visible image, we propose a multi-scale decomposition fusion method based on phase congruency and saliency. In this method, the Laplacian pyramid is first used to decompose the source image into detail layers and base layers. Secondly, we use a method based on phase congruency for the fusion of detail layers. Thirdly, for the base layer, we decompose it into saliency map and residual map. The “max absolute” rule and “averag” rule are adopted for the fusion of saliency map and residual map, then the fused saliency map and residual map are added to attain the fused base image. Finally, we use the inverse transform of Laplacian pyramid to reconstruct the fused image. The experimental results show that the proposed method have better fusion effect than other methods. What's outstanding is that the infrared targets in the fused image are enhanced and abundant edges are preserved.

Logic-based switching finite-time stabilization with applications in mechanical systems

This paper investigates the finite time stabilization problem for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown control directions and unstructured uncertainties. The unstructured uncertainties indicate that not only the parameters but also the structure of the system nonlinearities are uncertain. A new adaptive control method is proposed for the considered system. Logic-based switching rule is utilized to tune the controller parameters online to stabilize the system in finite time. Different from the existing adaptive controllers for structured/parametric uncertainties, a new switching barrier Lyapunov method and supervisory functions are introduced to overcome the obstacles caused by unstructured uncertainties and unknown control directions. Both simulations and experiments are conducted on mechatronic systems to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2020, CC BY.

The injection of intermittent wind power reduces the equivalent inertia of power systems, and therefore, the change rate of frequency deviation for the load frequency control (LFC) schemes is increased. LFC schemes employ communication channels to transmit signals, which introduces time delays resulting in badly dynamic performance. This paper presents a delay-dependent approach to obtain the robust load frequency controllers based on decay rate for a multi-area LFC scheme integrated with wind power. An index of decay rate related to settling time is introduced. For a preset delay upper bound, controller gains are optimized by maximizing the decay rate. Also, the controller gains can be designed under the desired decay rate while obtaining the allowable maximum delay margins. Case studies are based on the deregulated multi-area LFC system to verify the robustness of developed controller against inertia reduction. Moreover, the proposed method enables the frequency deviation to be restrained and eliminated within a few seconds.

A load frequency control (LFC) scheme for modern power systems employs an open communication network to transmit control/measurement signals. The usage of the open communication network in power system makes the LFC scheme more vulnerable to communication network attacks, for example, a denial-of-service (DoS) attack. This attack will prevent a certain amount of transmission of the signals so as to degrade the performance of LFC scheme, or even lead to instability of power system. Therefore, this paper concerns LFC scheme for single-area power system with energy-limited DoS attack based on switching method. Compared with the latest schemes only considering duration of a DoS attacks, the proposed LFC takes fully into account both the duration and attack frequency of the DoS attack. A switching LFC model for a single-area power system is firstly constructed based on the characteristic of periodical sampling and DoS attacks. Then, an exponential stability criterion is developed in terms of the duration and frequency of a DoS attack. Next, a feasible controller of LFC scheme is derived by solving linear matrix inequalities in the criterion. Finally, a detailed design algorithm of LFC scheme is presented for a known DoS attack or an unknown DoS attack. The effectiveness of the proposed LFC scheme is evaluated on a single-area power system under DoS attacks. The proposed LFC scheme is compared with a robust LFC scheme and an event-triggered H ∞ LFC scheme. The obtained contrasting results demonstrate that the proposed LFC scheme can defend DoS attacks with limited energy, and can perform better control effect in the presence of load fluctuations.

Four-wheel-steering mobile robots (FMR) are extensively-adopted for manufacturing applications. However, the robust trajectory tracking of FMR is hard to achieve due to the complex disturbances. For addressing the challenge, an asymmetric barrier function-based adaptive control (ABFAC) method is presented here for obtaining a robust direct yaw moment control scheme for the FMR. The praiseworthy features of the proposed ABFAC method are twofold: (a) It does not need the information concerning the upper boundary information of the unknown uncertainties; (b) By introducing the barrier function, the output signals are guaranteed to be within the desired neighborhood since the sliding mode gains will grow once the disturbance derivatives increase. In this context, the proposed ABFAC method drives the resultant trajectory tracks the variation tendency of the disturbances, guaranteeing robust closed-loop responses. The global stability of the FMR can be ensured theoretically. Finally, experimental results of real-time FMR are provided to validate the applicability of our ABFAC method.

Real-time strategy (RTS) games have become one of the hotspots in the field of artificial intelligence research due to the large search space, long-term planning, and real-time constraint. In view of the fact that most of the current research on solving the RTS combat problem uses offline training methods, and these methods may need a lot of training time, this work uses an evolutionary algorithm (EA) to directly optimize the units' action sequences online. In order to solve the problems of repetitive actions caused by the neutral area and the size correlation caused by cooperation between units, three search operators are proposed. It is shown that this method can effectively solve the combat problem in RTS games.
