Simple Linear Iterative Clustering (SLIC) is one of the most excellent superpixel segmentation algorithms with the most comprehensive performance and is widely used in various scenes of production and living. As a preprocessing step in image processing, superpixel segmentation should meet various demands in real life as much as possible, but SLIC is highly sensitive to noise. In this paper, a K-mediods clustering based simple linear iterative clustering (KSLIC) is proposed, which replaces the K-means clustering in SLIC with a modified local K-mediods clustering. To evaluate the performance of KSLIC, we test it on BSD500 benchmark dataset. The results show that it outperforms SLIC in terms of different noise environments including Gaussian noise, multiplicative noise and salt and pepper noise. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

This paper proposes a strategy for drone image stitching using local least square alignment, which aims to effectively stitch multiple overlapping drone images into a natural panoramic image. Existing traditional methods using simple homography cannot handle the situation that the input drone images have parallax effect, and the mosaic result always suffers from artifacts. In order to achieve natural-looking stitching results without the above limitation, we divide the proposed method into the following two steps, namely, local least square alignment and global similarity constraint. Starting from initial feature sets obtained by traditional feature extraction methods, we construct a robust alignment energy based on parallax errors to adaptively eliminate parallax effects. The energy can be efficiently minimized used least square estimate. Combined with global similarity constraint, our proposed strategy can flexibly improve the naturalness of the results. Experiments show that our stitching strategy can more effectively eliminate parallax effects and achieve natural-looking results compared to other state-of-the-art methods.

Society 5.0 addresses human behaviors and their consequences in social management, while emphasizing the integration of Cyber-Physical-Social Spaces to achieve a highly connected and circulated society. Prompted by the various social needs expressed on social media platforms, Prescriptive Manufacturing (PM) emerges as a proactive pre-manufacturing paradigm. This paper delves into PM within the context of Society 5.0. It highlights the development of Human Autonomous Organizations (HAOs) and the delivery of “on-demand” smart services, which are customized to meet both individual and broader societal demands. The social sensing framework of social needs across different social media platforms that enables the identification and anticipation of consumer demands in real-time is illustrated. This data-driven insight leverages artificial intelligence and robotics to facilitate customized design and on-demand production, aligning product creation with real user requirements. Furthermore, we discuss the implementation of human-centered smart services in PM, such as virtual try-on, virtual fitting, personalized retrofit, user-friendly scheduling, and proximity logistics, which not only enhance consumer experience but also optimize resource efficiency By examining the symbiosis between technological advancements and social need fulfillment, this study sheds light on how PM and HAOs can foster a more responsive, sustainable, and inclusive economy in society, ultimately contributing to a higher quality of life and sustainable development goals of Society 5.0.

This article is concerned with the $H_{\infty }$ proportional–integral–derivative (PID) control problem for class of discrete-time Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy systems subject to infinite-distributed time delays and round-robin (RR) protocol scheduling effects. The information exchange between the sensors and the controller is conducted through a shared communication network. For the purpose of alleviating possible data collision, the well-known RR communication protocol is deployed to schedule the data transmissions. To stabilize the target system with guaranteed $H_{\infty }$ performance index, a novel yet easy-to-implement fuzzy PID controller is developed whose integral term is calculated based on the past measurements defined in a limited time window with hope to improve computational efficiency and reduce accumulation error. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory and the convex optimization technique, sufficient conditions are derived to ensure the exponential stability as well as the $H_{\infty }$ disturbance attenuation/rejection capacity of the underlying system. Furthermore, by utilizing the cone complementarity linearization algorithm, the nonconvex controller design problem is transformed into an iterative optimization one that facilitates the controller implementation. Finally, simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness and correctness of the developed control method.

This paper studies the algorithm design of variance-constrained $H_{\infty}$ state estimation problem for delayed memristive neural networks with adaptive event-triggered mechanism. The denial-of-service attacks are modeled by a series of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution with known probability. In addition, the adaptive event-triggered mechanism is introduced into the sensor-to-estimator to avoid unnecessary resource consumption. Our purpose is to construct a finite-horizon state estimation algorithm, and sufficient condition is obtained for the estimation error system satisfying the $H_{\infty}$ performance requirement and the error variance boundedness. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the feasibility of the presented $H_{\infty}$ state estimation algorithm.

Adaptive fuzzy control strategies are established to achieve global prescribed performance with prescribed-time convergence for strict-feedback systems with mismatched uncertainties and unknown nonlinearities. Firstly, to quantify the transient and steady performance constraints of the tracking error, a class of prescribed-time prescribed performance functions are designed, and a novel error transformation function is introduced to remove the initial value constraints and solve the singularity problem in existing works. Secondly, based on dynamic surface control methods, controllers with or without approximating structures are established to guarantee that the tracking error achieves prescribed transient performance and converges into a prescribed bounded set within prescribed time. In particular, the settling time and initial value of the prescribed performance function are completely independent of initial conditions of the tracking error and system parameters, which improves existing results. Moreover, with a novel Lyapunov-like energy function, not only the differential explosion problem frequently occurring in backstepping techniques is solved, but the drawback of the semi-global boundedness of tracking error induced by dynamic surface control can be overcome. Interval numbers generated by the data-driven model are used to describe the uncertainty and correlation of electricity price in the spot market. Uncertainty sets are employed to describe the uncertainties in the number of EVs and PV power generation. The objective of the model is to jointly optimize the cost of VPP participating in the spot market considering arbitrage opportunity. The objective function containing interval numbers is transformed into a solvable form based on a ranking method considering pessimistic decisions. To solve this model, an improved column-and-constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm is developed based on the combination method of genetic algorithm (GA) and solver Gurobi. The results show that the interval numbers of electricity price generated by the data-driven model proposed in this paper can reduce the cost fluctuation of VPP by 3.2%. The two-stage interval robust model proposed in this paper can reduce the cost of VPP by 1.4% compared with the conventional single-stage robust method, and lessen the cost by 35.2% compared with the robust method that does not consider arbitrage opportunities in day-ahead and real-time markets. The improved C&CG algorithm presents superior performance in convergence and accuracy. Compared to the stochastic optimization method that generates n scenarios, the computational time of the model with the interval optimization method introduced in this paper can be reduced to 1∕n. Safety and cost are two important concerns for the development of autonomous driving technologies. From the academic research to commercial applications of autonomous driving vehicles, sufficient simulation and real world testing are required. In general, a large scale of testing in simulation environment is conducted and then the learned driving knowledge is transferred to the real world, so how to adapt driving knowledge learned in simulation to reality becomes a critical issue. However, the virtual simulation world differs from the real world in many aspects such as lighting, textures, vehicle dynamics, and agents' behaviors, etc., which makes it difficult to bridge the gap between the virtual and real worlds. This gap is commonly referred to as the reality gap (RG). In recent years, researchers have explored various approaches to address the reality gap issue, which can be broadly classified into three categories: transferring knowledge from simulation to reality (sim2real), learning in digital twins (DTs), and learning by parallel intelligence (PI) technologies. In this paper, we consider the solutions through the sim2real, DTs, and PI technologies, and review important applications and innovations in the field of autonomous driving. Meanwhile, we show the state-of-the-arts from the views of algorithms, models, and simulators, and elaborate the development process from sim2real to DTs and PI. The presentation also illustrates the far-reaching effects and challenges in the development of sim2real, DTs, and PI in autonomous driving. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The systematic error and the anomaly in the sensitivity and the probability of post-selection raised from the plural weak value

Recently, weak value Aw derived in the pre- and post-selected weak measurement has been shown to be powerful in measuring minute physical effects. In principle, the decrease in the post-selection probability will increase the sensitivity. Besides, the sensitivity which characterizes the pointer position shift is proportional to the real part of Aw, and the sensitivity which characterizes the pointer shift in momentum space is proportional to the imaginary part of Aw. However, we find that the relationship between the post-selection probability and the sensitivity is true when Aw is a purely real number or a purely imaginary number. The plural Aw will lead to the abnormal behavior where the decrease in the post-selection probability reduce the sensitivity at certain pre- and post-selection. In addition, considering the device imperfections and the environmental instability in the WVA protocol, this anomaly raised from plural Aw will reduce the sensitivity and generate a systematic error of the measurement compared with the original scheme. Finally, three feasible methods are proposed to reduce these negative effects when the weak measurement inevitably changes into measurement with a plural weak value. © 2021, CC BY.
