The gap between extension agents’ interests and needs towards agricultural extension media

Agricultural extension media is one of the most important tools in agricultural extension activities. The purpose of this study was to analyze agricultural extension media that are considered important and needed by extension agents, as well as to analyze the level of gap between the level of interest and the need for agricultural extension media. The research location is in West Java Province which is limited by four districts representing the four agricultural ecosystem zones namely Bogor, Sukabumi, Ciamis and Indramayu Regencies. The research sample included 216 field agricultural extension agents from four different regencies. The collected data was then analyzed using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) technique. The findings revealed that agricultural brochures were the conventional media considered important and required by extension agents. WhatsApp is the digital media most important to extension agents, and cyber extension is the media most needed by extension agents.

Shikimic acid is a hydroaromatic compound possessing critical biological properties,such as antibacterial and antiviral *** review mainly focused on shikimic acid and its *** first briefly introduced the sources of shikimic acid and its derivatives and discussed their *** in vitro and in vivo studies indicate that shikimic acid and its derivatives exhibit diverse bioactivities,such as antioxidant,antiviral,anti-inflammatory,antibacterial,hypolipidemic,bone protective,skin protective,neuroprotective,and antidiabetic *** mainly focused on the related molecular ***,the wide range of bioactivities of shikimic acid and its derivatives indicate that a more detailed exploration of their potential for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases is warranted.

Citizen science initiatives offer an informal way to encourage the general public to engage in science learning, and contributes to the development of a more stable supply of science professionals by arousing volunteers’ enthusiasm for a science career. This study aimed to identify the contribution that science service makes to volunteers’ experience and the influence it has on the relationship between their experience and beliefs, and on their eventual career orientation. This study tested the effect of social cognitive variables on volunteers’ career interests in science using Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT). The sample consisted of 241 volunteers taking part in a science volunteer project which is administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) and PROCESS Macro 4.1 to test the structural relationships and mediating hypotheses proposed in this study. Building on the SCCT, our findings indicated that self-efficacy in science service, satisfaction with science service, and social support are contributing factors to the science volunteers’ career interest in a scientific profession. This study adds to the SCCT literature by clarifying how a volunteer-based citizen science initiative as an informal science learning platform may affect the participants’ career decisions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023. An insight into financial literacy of University faculties: A case study of University of Rajasthan employees, India

Research on measurement of financial literacy and its implications have increased in recent years;however, being focused on vulnerable population sub-group the studies have ignored the better-off section. To attain a sustainable financial system, financial literacy must reach all including educated ones who can also be its provider. Teachers, being one such group can act as a channel between banks and students;however, it is imperative to quantify effect of education on financial literacy. Hence, the study based on primary data collected from employees of the University of Rajasthan, India aims at: measuring financial literacy and quantifying the effect of education. The results using Quantile regression estimates reveal positive effect of education on financial literacy declines with its improving score. It mandates the need for exclusive financial training programs to move from low to high level even for highly qualified teachers. Also, educated groups are not insulated from lack of financial literacy though they do have a basic understanding of financial concepts and hence can easily move up the ladder as well as pass on the information to their students. Considering the facilitator role of education, special programs oriented towards the better-off section particularly teachers should be designed. © 2022 The Authors

Purpose: This study used data from a national birth cohort study to investigate the duration of internet use at the age of 12 years among children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities (IDs) and learning disabilities (LDs) at the age of five and a half years (66 months) to understand whether an ADHD, ASD, ID and LD diagnosis in childhood increases the risk of problematic internet use (PIU) in adolescence. Furthermore, the pathway relationship of dissociative absorptive trait with PIU and these diagnoses was also investigated. Methods: The 5.5- and 12-year-old Taiwan Birth Cohort Study dataset was used (N = 17,694). Results: More boys were diagnosed with LDs, IDs, ADHD and ASD;however, girls were at increased likelihood of PIU. ID and ASD diagnoses were not associated with increasing PIU likelihood. However, children who had been diagnosed with LDs and ADHD, along with higher dissociative absorptive trait, had an indirectly increased likelihood of PIU in adolescence. Conclusions: Dissociative absorption was found to be a mediating factor between childhood diagnosis and PIU and can be used as a screening indicator in prevention programs to reduce the duration and severity of PIU in children diagnosed with ADHD and LDs. Furthermore, with the increased prevalence of smartphone usage in adolescents, education policy-makers should pay greater attention to the issue of PIU in female adolescents. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

The interconnected and compounding climate change and biodiversity crises have led to increased urgency in moving towards transformational change within how national and international sustainability efforts are viewed and operationalised. Despite the known benefit of carbon markets as part of these sustainability efforts, there has been increasing scrutiny of carbon market mechanisms, with warranted distrust present at the community level. Indigenous Peoples are key stewards of biodiverse landscapes, yet their exclusion within carbon market decision making is ongoing. With this exclusion, outstanding questions remain on the placement of Indigenous Peoples within current carbon market design and decision making and their roles have yet to be fully appreciated in wider policy and practice. Platformed on substantial inequities, marginalisation, and racism, we therefore query in this Personal View, are carbon markets a new form of colonialism? We further reflect on the challenges and the potential opportunities of carbon markets for Indigenous Peoples and anchor our reflections with examples from different regions. © 2025 The Author(s). To reach balance and harmony, current demand, growth, and sustainability, there is a need to include economic, social, cultural, and biological principles for a holistic approach in fisheries management. However, despite the combined efforts, severe challenges still threaten the sustainability of small-scale fisheries in the Philippines. This study carried out a systematic review of the literature published from 1998 to 2021 in the Philippines. This timeframe was selected to align with the implementation of the Philippines Fisheries Code of 1998 (Republic Act 8550) and its subsequent amendment as Republic Act 10654 in 2015, which legally recognized sustainable fisheries by local governments from 1998 onwards. The literature search came out with a total of 775 articles from Web of Science and 345 from SCOPUS, after duplicates were removed, 207 literature were included in the synthesis. The main issues that came out are on fishing, reef, livelihood, catch and protected areas. In the Philippines, the reliance of fishers on their livelihood remains a limiting factor in the effectiveness of management plans as pressure from the increasing population of highly fishery-dependent coastal communities, food insecurity, and catch demand can render tactics ineffective. The root issues are larger and systemic, but stem from a lack of sustainable financing to support the viability of established fishery management schemes. Marine conservation programs require consideration of the economic impacts and creating alternatives to diversify income sources so that other larger drivers of unsustainable fisheries can be addressed. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

The Effects of Dynamic Learning and the Forgetting Process on an Optimizing Modelling for Full-Service Repair Pricing Contracts for Medical Devices

In order to improve the profitability and customer service management of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in a market where full-service (FS) and on-call service (OS) co-exist, this article extends the optimizing modelling for pricing FS repair contracts with the effects of dynamic learning and forgetting. Along with considering autonomous learning in maintenance practice, this study also analyses how induced learning and forgetting process in a workplace put impact on the pricing optimizing model of FS contracts in the portfolio of FS and OS. A numerical analysis based on real data from a medical industry proves that the enhanced FS pricing model discussed here has two main advantages: (1) It could prominently improve repair efficiency, and (2) It help OEMs gain better profits compared to the original FS model and the sole OS maintenance. Sensitivity analysis shows that if internal failure rate increases, the optimized FS price rises gradually until reaching the maximum value, and profitability to the OEM increases overall;if frequency of induced learning goes up, the optimal FS price rises after a short-term downward trend, with a stable profitability to the OEM. Physical Activity as a Buffer in the Association Between Perceived Ethnic-Racial Discrimination and Latinx Adolescent Mental Health

Latinx adolescents, members of the largest historically minoritized population in the United States (US), experience pervasive ethnic-racial discrimination, adding extra challenges to this pivotal developmental stage which is marked by significant physical, cognitive, and psychosocial changes. Exposure to ethnic-racial discrimination is closely connected to their mental health. Physical activity has numerous psychophysiological health benefits, making it a potential yet understudied protective mechanism against the adverse impacts of perceived discrimination. By utilizing data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive development (ABCD) Study, the current study examined the buffering effect of physical activity in the association between perceived ethnic-racial discrimination and mental health in a national sample of Latinx adolescents ( N = 1392; M age = 11.92 SD = 0.66). Findings revealed that longer periods of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity exhibited a weaker positive association between perceived ethnic-racial discrimination and internalizing problems compared to peers who engaged in shorter periods of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, indicating a protective role of physical activity for Latinx adolescents experiencing ethnic-racial discrimination. This study highlights the importance of promoting moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to support resilience and mental health in Latinx youth facing ethnic-racial discrimination.

Clinical dental treatment is the most exacting and demanding medical procedure that persons with special needs undergo on a regular basis throughout their lifetime. Dental treatment is surgical in nature, usually requiring controlled placement of sharpened instrumentation in intimate proximity to the face, airway, and highly vascularized and inner aged oral tissues. Although approximately 90% of patients with special needs can and should be mainstreamed through any general dental practice, without significant behavioral guidance, techniques, or medical immobilization/protective stabilization, there has been a drastic shift toward pharmacologic management of these patients using various forms of sedation and general anesthesia.
