Bridging the gap: Indonesia's research trajectory and national development through a scientometric analysis using SciVal

This study examines the characteristics of Indonesia's scholarly output and its alignment with national development goals. This research focuses on three key questions: how Indonesia's research output can be categorized into driver, basic, specialized, and declining clusters;the extent to which these research themes align with National Research Priorities and the areas that require greater emphasis;and the correlation between Indonesia's research themes and its economic drivers, including export commodity sectors, to identify opportunities for enhancing national advancement. To address these questions, the study employs a scientometric approach, utilizing data from SciVal and keyword analysis while integrating economic data from the Indonesian Bureau of Statistics and the Observatory of Economic Complexity to provide a comprehensive and multidimensional analysis. The study employed statistical comparisons to assess the alignment of research outputs with national priorities and economic indicators. The study reveals significant trends in Indonesia's scholarly output across driver, basic, specialized, and declining research clusters, emphasizing the need for strengthened research efforts in sectors such as energy, business, management, and accounting, alongside targeted investments in fields like chemistry, immunology, and microbiology to bolster global competitiveness. A comparison of Indonesia's research themes with National Research Priorities underscores a critical misalignment that shows the need for a recalibration towards impactful and strategic research initiatives that are better aligned with national needs and global trends. Disparities between Indonesia's research output and economic driver sectors, such as mineral fuels and agricultural products, highlight opportunities for enhanced research investment to support better leading economic contributors and elevate scholarly impact. © 2025 The Authors

Ultrasound kidney image segmentation presents significant challenges due to missing or ambiguous boundaries. In this study, we introduce a coarse-to-refinement approach incorporating four novel aspects. Firstly, we leverage the properties of a principal curve (PC) to automatically fine-tune the curve shape and employ a neural network's learning ability to reduce model error. Secondly, a deep fusion learning network is utilized for the coarse segmentation step, incorporating a parallel architecture to enhance deep-learning performance. Thirdly, addressing the limitation of standard PC-based methods in determining the number of vertices automatically, we propose an automatic searching polygon tracking method using a mean shift clustering-based approach to replace the projection and vertex extension step in standard PC-based methods. Lastly, we develop an explainable mathematical map function for the kidney contour, as denoted by the neural network output (i.e., optimized vertices), which aligns well with the ground truth contour. We conducted various experiments to evaluate our method's performance, demonstrating its effectiveness in ultrasound kidney image segmentation. © 2023 IEEE.

Objective: To determine whether there is an association between the type of natural cycle frozen embryo transfer (FET) (scheduled vs. traditional) and live birth outcomes. Design: Retrospective cohort of all natural cycle FETs across a single network of fertility clinics in the United States. Subjects: All natural cycle FETs performed in ovulatory patients between January 2019 and April 2022. Exposure: Scheduled natural cycle FET cycles that received a short-duration of gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist (1 ampule/d) with low-dose gonadotropins (75 IU/d) to delay ovulation to enable more flexible scheduling of the FET were compared with cycles without delay. Main Outcome Measures: Live birth. Results: There were a total of 1,087 natural cycle FETs that met the inclusion criteria. The scheduled natural cycle FET protocol was used in 114 (10.5%) of these cycles. The mean age was 35 (interquartile range, 33–38) years. Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy was used in 76.3% (n = 87) of scheduled natural cycle FET cycles and 68.9% (n = 670) of natural cycle FET cycles. The scheduled natural cycle FET group had a significantly higher estradiol level (318 vs. 249 pg/mL) and a lower luteinizing hormone level (5.7 vs. 13.4 mIU/mL) at ovulatory trigger but a comparable peak endometrial thickness (9.4 vs. 9.7 mm) compared with the natural cycle FET group. Overall, there was a significant increase in the rates of positive human chorionic gonadotropin (scheduled natural cycle, 81.6%, vs. natural cycle, 64.3%;relative risk [RR], 1.26 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 1.15–1.38]) and clinical pregnancy (scheduled natural cycle, 68.4%, vs. natural cycle, 57.1%;RR, 1.21 [95% CI, 1.06–1.38]) in the scheduled natural cycle group. There were a higher proportion of live births in the scheduled natural cycle group;however, this did not reach statistical significance (scheduled natural cycle, 57.0%, vs. natural cycle, 49.4%;RR, 1.15 [95% CI, 0.97–1.36]). The COVID-19 pandemic has jolted societies out of normality, possibly creating new conditions for sustainability transformations. What does this mean for sustainability research? Because of the scope of the crisis, researchers have been heavily involved: not only have they had to speed up the pace of scientific production to provide urgently needed COVID-19 knowledge, but they have also been affected citizens. For sustainability science, this calls for an experience-based reflection on the positionality and orientation of research aiming to support sustainability transformations. Twenty sustainability researchers discussed their sustainability research on COVID-19 in three workshops based on the following questions: How does the pandemic—and the measures taken to deal with it—affect sustainable development? What can we learn from the pandemic from the perspective of societal transformation? The present discussion paper emerged from this multidisciplinary exchange among sustainability researchers, considering five topics: impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on sustainability transformations; learning for sustainability transformations; the role of solidarity; governance and political steering; and the role of science in society. Our discussions led to a meta-level reflection on what sustainability research can learn from research on COVID-19 regarding topics and disciplinary angles, time dimensions, the role of researchers, and how adequate preparation for both crises and long-term transformations requires interdisciplinary interaction.

Bignay (Antidesma bunius L. Spreng) is an indigenous fruit in the Philippines known for its bioactive compounds and is commonly preserved by conventional freezing. Processing can be done to improve its storage condition and convert it into functional ingredients. This study aimed to determine the effect of freeze-drying, oven drying (50°C), spray drying, and juice concentrating on the dietary fiber composition, phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activity of Bignay. Results showed that oven drying increased the total dietary fiber of Bignay by 29% while freeze drying resulted to an increase in total phenolics, total flavonoids, and total anthocyanin by 69%, 55%, and 66%, respectively, with an increase in antioxidant activity in terms of DPPH, FRAP, and ABTS by 57%, 15% and 31%, respectively. Spray drying was found to be the most detrimental method while juice concentration gave little to no significant effects. Epicatechin, catechin, and gallic acid were the main phenolic compounds quantified in the processed Bignay. The study recommends that freeze-drying is the best method followed by oven drying, concentration, and spray drying. © 2023 The Author(s)

Lower crossed syndrome (LCS) is an imbalance of muscles in the lower body segment. Muscle imbalance with prolonged sitting may increase the risk of low back pain. The objective of this study was to study the lumbopelvic-hip angle in upright and freestyle sitting in healthy and LCS individuals. Thirty office workers (normal = 10, LCS type A = 10, and LCS type B = 10) who worked 6–8 h./d in a sitting posture were recruited. Lumbo-pelvic-hip angle was recorded while participants typed a text for 30 min in upright and freestyle sitting. Two-ways mixed model ANOVA and post-hoc Turkey test were used to analyze data. Decreased lumbar lordosis was found among the three groups. However the LCS type A group maintained their lumbar lordosis and anterior pelvic tilt, while lumbar kyphosis and posterior pelvic tilt were found in LCS type B in both sittings. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The Intergenerational Effects of Parental Divorce on Young Adult Relationships

Due to the current high rates of divorce, many young adults have experienced the effects of parental divorce. Although a large body of research has investigated both the positive and negative intrapersonal implications of divorce for individuals, relatively little research has looked at the interpersonal effects of parental divorce. Yet divorce likely influences both parent-child relationships and young adult romantic relationships. The purpose of this study was to explore more fully how parental divorce affects young adult relationships by investigating the relationship between divorce and parent-adult child relationship quality, perceived comfort within close relationships (i.e., attachment), romantic relationship satisfaction, and individual distress (depression, anxiety, and stress). Data analysis revealed that those who experience parental divorce are more likely to have lower parental regard, report lower relationship satisfaction, and experience relationship distress than those who did not even when controlling for the overall family environment. Clinicians may utilize the results of this study when working with individuals, couples, and families where divorce has occurred. © 2019, © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Background:In the military,insufficient postural stability is a risk factor for developing lower extremity *** stability training programs are effective in preventing these ***,an objective method for the measurement of postural stability in servicemen is *** primary objective of this study was to assess the influence of the number of repetitions,different foot positions and real-time visual feedback on postural stability,as well as their effects on the intrasession reliability of postural stability measurements in *** secondary objective was to assess the concurrent validity of the ***:Twenty healthy servicemen between 20 and 50 years of age and in active duty were eligible for this quantitative,cross-sectional *** measurements took place on a force plate,measuring the mean velocity of the center of *** participants were asked to stand as still as possible in three different foot positions(wide stance,small stance,and on one leg),five times each for 45 s each time,and the measurements were performed with and without real-time visual ***:We observed a significant main effect of foot position(P<0.001),but not of visual feedback(P=0.119)or repetition number(P=0.915).Postural stability decreased in the more challenging foot *** ICC estimates varied from 0.809(one repetition in wide stance)to 0.985(five repetitions on one leg).The common variance(R2)between different foot positions without feedback varied between 0.008(wide stance)and ***:To yield reliable data,wide-stance measurements should be conducted three times,and small-stance measurements and measurements on one leg should be conducted two *** scores of a measurement in a particular foot position cannot predict the scores of measurements in other foot positions.

Variables affecting English-medium instruction students’ achievement: Results of a multiple regression analysis

English-medium instruction (EMI) is being used more widely for teaching content subjects at universities in non-English-speaking countries. This study examined the effects of gender, prior education, socioeconomic status (SES), English proficiency, and study load on EMI students' academic achievement at a state university in Indonesia. The data of 201 EMI students were obtained from the Office of Academic Affairs. Independent-samples t-tests, correlation analysis, and multiple regression revealed that female students outperformed their male counterparts based on the overall grade point average. The students’ secondary education major, English proficiency, number of semesters, and number of courses were correlated with and predicted their academic achievement. Some suggestions and implications for policy makers and future research are also presented. © 2022
