Swallomis the director of military power systems at Avco Research Laboratory Inc. a subsidiary of Textron Inc. in Everett Mass. Dr. Swallom received his B.S. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa Iowa City Iowa in 1969 1970 and 1972 respectively. He has authored numerous papers in the areas of power propulsion and plasma physics and currently is a member of the Aerospace Power Systems Technical Committee of the AIAA. Dr. Swallom has directed various programs for the development of advanced power generation systems lightweight power conditioning systems and advanced propulsion systems for marine applications. His previous experience includes work with Odin International Corporation Maxwell Laboratories Inc. Argonne National Laboratory and the Air Force Aero Propulsion Laboratory. Currently Dr. Swallom is directing the technical efforts to apply magnetohydrodynamic principles to a variety of propulsion and power applications for various marine vehicles and power system requirements respectively. Isaac Sadovnikis a principal research engineer in the Energy Technology Office at Avco Research Laboratory Inc. a subsidiary of Textron Inc. He received his B.S. in engineering (1974) B.S. in physics (1975) M.S. in aeronautics and astronautics (1976) and Ph.D. in physics of fluids (1981) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Sadovnik has been involved in research work funded by DARPA concerning the use of magnetohydrodynamics for underwater propulsion. He has built theoretical models that predict the hydrodynamic behavior of seawater flow through magnetohydrodynamic ducts and their interaction with the rest of the vehicle (thrust and drag produced). In addition Dr. Sadovnik has been involved in research investigations geared toward the NASP program concerning the use of magnetohydrodynamic combustion-driven accelerator channels. Costello was nominated by President Reagan to be Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition) in 1987 was confirmed by the Senate and took oath of office in December 1987. Born in New Rochelle New York on June 21 1926 Dr. Costello earned his B.C.E. and M.C.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1947 and 1948. He received a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Cornell University in 1951. Dr. Costello enlisted in the Navy in 1944 was recalled to active duty as an officer during the Korean War and retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of captain in 1978. After the Korean War Dr. Costello held a number of positions in advanced research and management specializing in material science aerospace missile testing and engineering. In 1960 Dr. Costello joined the Allison Division of General Motors as Chief of Missile Engineering. Subsequently he con- ducted scientific research in deep ocean engineering and acoustic research at the Defense Research Laboratories. He holds numerous patents in deep ocean materials systems and instrumentation. Dr. Costello then returned to the Allison Division as Director Liabon for the Main Battle Tank Program. Dr. Costello was then assigned to the Delco Electronics Division where he became the Director of Materials Management. In I982 Dr. Costello was appointed the Executive Director Purchasing Activities. for the entire General Motors Corporation. He was responsible for providing new directions and implementing a broad range of new programs throughout General Motors and its suppliers worldwide. He was nominated by President Reagan to be Assbtant Secretary of Defense (Production and Logistics) in October I986 and took oath of office in March 1987. He held thb position until his current appointment.

作者: CARRISON, D.A. SMITH, C.O. Donald A. Carrison received a B. S. degree from the University of Illinois and did graduate work in Physics Mathematics and Engineering at the University of California at Los Angeles. He was a Staff Member in Training at the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology prior to joining the Director's Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Senior Physicist with a group investigating an advanced reactor concept. Since May of 1957 he has been a member of the senior staff of Aeronutronic Systems Inc. a Ford Motor Co. subsidiary in Glendale Calif. Charles O. Smith received a B.S. in Mech. Eng. from Worcester Polytechnic Institute a S. M. in Mech. Eng. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Sc.D. in Metallurgy from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in the Navy during World War II in aviation maintenance. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander USNR and is active in the reserve program of the Office of Naval Research. He has seven years teaching experience at WPI and MIT and was associated with Alcoa Research Laboratories for three and one-half years as a Research Engineer. He currently is Lecturer in Reactor Materials at the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
