Among the solution-processed devices, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) exhibit the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of over 25%;tremendous efforts are being undertaken to improve their stability. Recently, all-inorganic CsPbI,Br-based PSCs were reported to exhibit a significantly improved device stability, with a promising PCE of up to 16.79%. In this study, we report stable all-inorganic PSCs by incorporating novel dopant-free hole-transporting materials (HTMs). The synthesis strategy of the newly synthesized polymeric HTMs was similar to that of 2,2',7,7'-tetrakis(N,N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (spiro-OMeTAD), with the exception that they were designed to exhibit dopant-free characteristics. In particular, their polymeric backbone structure was significantly simpler than that of spiro-OMeTADs, and they were easily synthesized in two steps from commercially available chemicals, with an overall yield of similar to 50%. The cost of synthesis at the laboratory scale was calculated to be at least 2.4 times cheaper than that of spiro-OMeTADs. The PCE of dopant-free HTM-based PSCs was 11.01%, which is 1.5 times higher than that of the dopant-free spiro-OMeTAD-based devices (7.52%) and comparable to that of the doped spiro-OMeTAD-based devices (12.22%). Notably, the stability of the device based on our dopant-free HTM to atmospheric oxygen and moisture as well as heat and light irradiation was superior to that of devices based on doped and dopant-free spiro-OMeTAD HTMs. On consideration of the synthesis cost, device efficiency, and device stability, our dopant-free HTM is highly promising for all-inorganic PSCs.

Directed charge boosting by polyelectrolyte nanorods on a graphene oxide membrane for High-Performance blue energy harvesting

Blue energy harvesting is conversion of the Gibbs free energy of mixing due to the salinity gradient between fresh and salt water into electrical energy. Two-dimensional (2D) material-based nanofluidic channels offer unique features and distinct advantages for blue energy harvesting, and they can be prepared via simple fabrication and modification methods. However, because of their lower ion transport selectivity and conductivity than theoretical estimation due to intrinsic and structural defects, 2D nanochannels exhibit low power density and extractable power. In this study, we developed a scalable blade-coating method for the shear-induced alignment of polyelectrolyte nanorods in 2D nanochannels. Based on the increase in the directional charge density via structural modifications, devices had the developed nanochannel structure and achieved a high osmotic power density and energy conversion efficiency of 13.12 W m- 2 and 35.64%, respectively. Finally, a hybrid nanofluidic tandem cell was used to operate a handheld electrical device. This study demonstrates the potential of coupling of improved charge density and modified ion pathway in the nanochannel by introducing a charge booster for osmotic energy conversion.

Amplified Performance of Charge Accumulation and Trapping Induced by Enhancing the Dielectric Constant via the Cyano Group of 3D-Structured Textile for a Triboelectric Multi-Modal Sensor

To further improve the output performance of triboelectric devices, reducing charge attenuation and loss has become a hot research topic. Particularly, textiles have emerged as one of the promising research directions for triboelectric devices owing to their special internal structure and large specific surface area. In the present work, polyacrylonitrile fibers are fabricated with two distinct structures to provide a higher dielectric constant due to the strong polar properties brought about by higher dipole moment of the C(sic)N group. In addition, the complex and closely connected structure of the textile increases specific internal surface area. As a friction layer, the output voltage is shown to increase to 625% of the initial value (from 8 to 60 V) after the application of friction for a short time due to accumulation property. When acting as a trapping layer, the charge loss after injection is effectively prevented due to excellent charge trapping effect. After 24 h, the triboelectric output performance remains at & AP;70% of the initial value (decreasing from 320 to 220 V), which is more than 20 times that of the polytetrafluoroethylene film, which decreases from 125 to 19 V. The device is realized for the advanced application of multi-modal sensors.

Impermeable Graphene Skin Increases the Heating Efficiency and Stability of an MXene Heating Element

A Joule heater made of emerging 2D nanosheets, i.e., MXene, has the advantage of low-voltage operation with stable heat generation owing to its highly conductive and uniformly layered structure. However, the self-heated MXene sheets easily get oxidized in warm and moist environments, which limits their intrinsic heating efficiencies. Herein, an ultrathin graphene skin is introduced as a surface-regulative coating on MXene to enhance its oxidative stability and Joule heating efficiency. The skin layer is deposited on MXene using a scalable solution-phased layer-by-layer assembly process without deteriorating the excellent electrical conductivity of the MXene. The graphene skin comprises narrow and hydrophobic channels, which results in & AP;70 times higher water impermeability of the hybrid film of graphene and MXene (GMX) than that of the pristine MXene. A complementary electrochemical analysis confirms that the graphene skin facilitates longer-lasting protection than conventional polymer coatings owing to its tortuous pathways. In addition, the sp(2) planar carbon surface with a low heat loss coefficient improves the heating efficiency of the GMX, indicating that this strategy is promising for developing adaptive heating materials with a tractable voltage range and high Joule heating efficiency.

Brain-inspired neuromorphic computing systems, based on a crossbar array of two-terminal multilevel resistive random-access memory (RRAM), have attracted attention as promising technologies for processing large amounts of unstructured data. However, the low reliability and inferior conductance tunability of RRAM, caused by uncontrollable metal filament formation in the uneven switching medium, result in lower accuracy compared to the software neural network (SW-NN). In this work, we present a highly reliable CoOx-based multilevel RRAM with an optimized crystal size and density in the switching medium, providing a three-dimensional (3D) grain boundary (GB) network. This design enhances the reliability of the RRAM by improving the cycle-to-cycle endurance and device-to-device stability of the I-V characteristics with minimal variation. Furthermore, the designed 3D GB-channel RRAM (3D GB-RRAM) exhibits excellent conductance tunability, demonstrating high symmetricity (624), low nonlinearity (beta(LTP)/beta(LTD) similar to 0.20/0.39), and a large dynamic range (G(max)/G(min) similar to 31.1). The cyclic stability of long-term potentiation and depression also exceeds 100 cycles (10(5) voltage pulses), and the relative standard deviation of G(max)/G(min) is only 2.9%. Leveraging these superior reliability and performance attributes, we propose a neuromorphic sensory system for finger motion tracking and hand gesture recognition as a potential elemental technology for the metaverse. This system consists of a stretchable double-layered photoacoustic strain sensor and a crossbar array neural network. We perform training and recognition tasks on ultrasonic patterns associated with finger motion and hand gestures, attaining a recognition accuracy of 97.9% and 97.4%, comparable to that of SW-NN (99.8% and 98.7%).

Development of Benzobisoxazole-Based Novel Conjugated Polymers for Organic Thin-Film Transistors

Benzo[1,2-d:4,5-d']bis(oxazole) (BBO) is a heterocyclic aromatic ring composed of one benzene ring and two oxazole rings, which has unique advantages on the facile synthesis without any column chromatography purification, high solubility on the common organic solvents and planar fused aromatic ring structure. However, BBO conjugated building block has rarely been used to develop conjugated polymers for organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). Three BBO-based monomers, BBO without pi-spacer, BBO with non-alkylated thiophene pi-spacer and BBO with alkylated thiophene pi-spacer, were newly synthesized and they were copolymerized with a strong electron-donating cyclopentadithiophene conjugated building block to give three p-type BBO-based polymers. The polymer containing non-alkylated thiophene pi-spacer showed the highest hole mobility of 2.2 x 10(-2) cm(2) V-1 s(-1), which was 100 times higher than the other polymers. From the 2D grazing incidence X-ray diffraction data and simulated polymeric structures, we found that the intercalation of alkyl side chains on the polymer backbones was crucial to determine the intermolecular ordering in the film states, and the introduction of non-alkylated thiophene pi-spacer to polymer backbone was the most effective to promote the intercalation of alkyl side chains in the film states and hole mobility in the devices.

Polymeric porous membranes are important in the protective textile industry because of their high breathability balanced with water resistivity. Developing the membranes which display balanced and optimized properties has proven to be a great challenge. Final membrane performance is dependent on fundamental parameters including membrane thickness, aging temperature, and adhesive aging temperature and time. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of these parameters on porous membrane morphology and performance. Using a scanning electron microscope, we analyzed membrane thickness impacts on morphology and pore size. We also investigated physical performance such as water pressure, water vapor permeability, and resistance to evaporating heat transfer (RET). We used the Kawabata evaluation system to evaluate the hand values based on quality according to customer choice. However, good mechanical, physical, and aesthetic performance of laminated textile suggest it as a promising substitute for numerous potential applications, especially as outdoor functional protective clothing.

A Knitted Sensing Glove for human Hand Postures Pattern Recognition

In recent years, flexible sensors for data gloves have been developed that aim to achieve excellent wearability, but they are associated with difficulties due to the complicated manufacturing and embedding into the glove. This study proposes a knitted glove integrated with strain sensors for pattern recognition of hand postures. The proposed sensing glove is fabricated at all once by a knitting technique without sewing and bonding, which is composed of strain sensors knitted with conductive yarn and a glove body with non-conductive yarn. To verify the performance of the developed glove, electrical resistance variations were measured according to the flexed angle and speed. These data showed different values depending on the speed or angle of movements. We carried out experiments on hand postures pattern recognition for the practicability verification of the knitted sensing glove. For this purpose, 10 able-bodied subjects participated in the recognition experiments on 10 target hand postures. The average classification accuracy of 10 subjects reached 94.17% when their own data were used. The accuracy of up to 97.1% was achieved in the case of grasp posture among 10 target postures. When all mixed data from 10 subjects were utilized for pattern recognition, the average classification expressed by the confusion matrix arrived at 89.5%. Therefore, the comprehensive experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the knitted sensing gloves. In addition, it is expected to reduce the cost through a simple manufacturing process of the knitted sensing glove.

On-Demand Dynamic Chirality Selection in Flower Corolla-like Micropillar Arrays

Chiral morphology has been intensively studied in various fields including biology, organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and optics. On-demand and dynamic chiral inversion not only cannot be realized in most intrinsically chiral materials but also has mostly been limited to chemical or light-induced methods. Herein, we report reversible realtime magneto-mechanical chiral inversion of a three-dimensional (3D) micropillar array between achiral, clockwise, and counterclockwise chiral arrangements. Inspired by the flower corolla, achiral arrays of five and six radially arranged semicylindrical micropillars were employed as model systems to investigate the dynamic symmetry properties of arrays consisting of odd and even numbers of micropillars, respectively. Each micropillar underwent twisting actuation with a different twisting angle depending on the angle with the magnetic field direction and magnetic flux density, thereby collectively changing the chirality from the achiral to chiral state. Importantly, the morphological handedness of the micropillars was inverted within a few seconds by manipulating the direction of the magnetic field. A chiral morphology consisting of magnetically twisted micropillars was shape-fixed by the introduction of a polymeric binder. This binder could be simply washed off to return the shape-fixed twisted micropillars to their initial straight state. Magnetically programmable and reproducible 3D flower corolla-like micropillar arrays are expected to expand the potential of shape-reconfigurable devices that require real-time chiral manipulation in ambient environments.

Interface engineering of organic hole transport layer with facile molecular doping for highly efficient perovskite solar cells

Energy level and the charge extraction/transportation ability of the hole transport layer (HTL) have significant impacts on the photovoltaic (PV) parameters of the perovskite solar cell (PSC) devices. A doping process has been one of the representative works to manage these characteristics, but the solution-blend doping, widely applied to the organic semiconductor HTL, has shown limited processability. In this work, we design a facile interfacial doping process for poly[bis(4-phenyl)(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)amine] (PTAA) HTL in p-i-n structure PSC device. This approach provides superior optical and electrical properties to the PTAA layer, even with better processability, and its proper hydrophobicity is beneficial to forming pinhole-free perovskite even with superior crystallinity and reduced trap density. Moreover, the dipole layer localized at the interface with the perovskite enhance the built-in potential of device, improving its carrier transportation. As a result, this approach largely enhances the efficiency of the p-i-n PSC device from 18.06% (blend-doping) to 20.67% with superior stability preserving 94% of its initial efficiency after 500 h under ambient air.
