In this paper, we present a novel enhancement to the conventional hr-adaptive finite element methods for parabolic equations, integrating traditional h-adaptive and r-adaptive methods via neural networks. A major challenge in hr-adaptive finite element methods lies in projecting the previous step’s finite element solution onto the updated mesh. This projection depends on the new mesh and must be recomputed for each adaptive iteration. To address this, we introduce a neural network to construct a mesh-free surrogate of the previous step finite element solution. Since the neural network is mesh-free, it only requires training once per time step, with its parameters initialized using the optimizer from the previous time step. This approach effectively overcomes the interpolation challenges associated with non-nested meshes in computation, making node insertion and movement more convenient and efficient. The new algorithm also emphasizes SIZING and GENERATE, allowing each refinement to roughly double the number of mesh nodes of the previous iteration and then redistribute them to form a new mesh that effectively captures the singularities. It significantly reduces the time required for repeated refinement and achieves the desired accuracy in no more than seven space-adaptive iterations per time step. In this paper, we study two residual-based a posteriori error estimators for the C0 interior penalty method in solving the biharmonic equation in a polygonal domain under a concentrated load. The first estimator is derived directly from the model equation without any post-processing technique. We rigorously prove the efficiency and reliability of the estimator by constructing bubble functions. Additionally, we extend this type of estimator to general fourth-order elliptic equations with various boundary conditions. The second estimator is based on projecting the Dirac delta function onto the discrete finite element space, allowing the application of a standard estimator. Notably, we additionally incorporate the projection error into the standard estimator. The efficiency and reliability of the estimator are also verified through rigorous analysis. We validate the performance of these a posteriori estimates within an adaptive algorithm and demonstrate their robustness and expected accuracy through extensive numerical examples. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Space Flying Net Robot System (SFNRS) is a new capture method of space debris. In this paper, the SFNRS dynamic equations are established by using the lumped mass method. The previous studies about controller design assumed that the mass of the maneuvering unit in SFNRS is known and a constant while it is unknown in fact. In addition, the upper boundary of tension in the space net is often assumed as a known constant, but it is difficult to get the value. In this paper, the radial basis function (RBF) network is used to design a controller in order to overcome the shortcomings above Finally, the simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed method. © 2021 IEEE

A robust C0-continuous nonconforming virtual element method (VEM) is developed for a boundary value problem arising from strain gradient elasticity in two dimensions, with the family of polygonal meshes satisfying a very general geometric assumption given in Brezzi et al. (2009) and Chen and Huang (2018). The stability condition of the VEMs is derived by establishing Korn-type inequalities and inverse inequalities. Some crucial commutative relations for locking-free analysis as in elastic problems are derived. In this paper, we develop a residual-type a posteriori error estimation for an interior penalty virtual element method (IPVEM) for the Kirchhoff plate bending problem. Building on the work in [18], we adopt a modified discrete variational formulation that incorporates the H1-elliptic projector in the jump and average terms. This allows us to simplify the numerical implementation by including the H1-elliptic projector in the computable error estimators. We derive the reliability and efficiency of the a posteriori error bound by constructing an enriching operator and establishing some related error estimates that align with C0-continuous interior penalty finite element methods. As observed in the a priori analysis, the interior penalty virtual elements exhibit similar behaviors to C0continuous elements despite its discontinuity. This observation extends to the a posteriori estimate since we do not need to account for the jumps of the function itself in the discrete scheme and the error estimators. As an outcome of the error estimator, an adaptive VEM is introduced by means of the mesh refinement strategy with the one-hanging-node rule. Numerical results from several benchmark tests confirm the robustness of the proposed error estimators and show the efficiency of the resulting adaptive VEM. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is a nonlinear elliptic equation with Dirac distribution sources, which has been widely applied to the prediction of electrostatics potential of biological biomolecular systems in solution. In this paper, we discuss and analysis the virtual element method for the Poisson-Boltzmann equation on general polyhedral meshes. Under the low regularity of the solution of the whole domain, nearly optimal error estimates in both L2-norm and H1-norm for the virtual element approximation are obtained. The numerical experiment on different polyhedral meshes shows the efficiency of the virtual element method and verifies the proposed theoretical prediction. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. We derive optimal order a posteriori error estimates in the L∞(L2) and L1(L2)-norms for the fully discrete approximations of time fractional parabolic differential equations. For the discretization in time, we use the L1 methods, while for the spatial discretization, we use standard conforming finite element methods. The linear and quadratic space-time reconstructions are introduced, which are generalizations of the elliptic space reconstruction. Then the related a posteriori error estimates for the linear and quadratic space-time reconstructions play key roles in deriving global and pointwise final error estimates. This paper is dedicated to the numerical solution of a fourth-order singular perturbation problem using the interior penalty virtual element method (IPVEM) proposed in [42]. The study introduces modifications to the jumps and averages in the penalty term, as well as presents an automated mesh-dependent selection of the penalty parameter. Drawing inspiration from the modified Morley finite element methods, we leverage the conforming interpolation technique to handle the lower part of the bilinear form. Through our analysis, we establish optimal convergence in the energy norm and provide a rigorous proof of uniform convergence concerning the perturbation parameter in the lowest-order case. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

This paper aims to develop an efficient adaptive finite element method for the second-order elliptic problem. Although the theory for adaptive finite element methods based on residual-type a posteriori error estimator and bisection refinement has been well established, in practical computations, the use of non-asymptotic exact of error estimator and the excessive number of adaptive iteration steps often lead to inefficiency of the adaptive algorithm. We propose an efficient adaptive finite element method based on high-accuracy techniques including the superconvergence recovery technique and high-quality mesh optimization. The centroidal Voronoi Delaunay triangulation mesh optimization is embedded in the mesh adaption to provide high-quality mesh, and then assure that the superconvergence property of the recovered gradient and the asymptotical exactness of the error estimator. A tailored adaptive strategy, which could generate high-quality meshes with a target number of vertices, is developed to ensure the adaptive computation process terminated within 7 steps.
