FASNet: Feature alignment-based method with digital pathology images in assisted diagnosis medical system

Many important information in medical research and clinical diagnosis are obtained from medical images. Among them, digital pathology images can provide detailed tissue structure and cellular information, which has become the gold standard for clinical tumor diagnosis. With the development of neural networks, computer-aided diagnosis presents the identification results of various cell nuclei to doctors, which facilitates the identification of cancerous regions. However, deep learning models require a large amount of annotated data. Pathology images are expensive and difficult to obtain, and insufficient annotation data can easily lead to biased results. In addition, when current models are evaluated on an unknown target domain, there are errors in the predicted boundaries. Based on this, this study proposes a feature alignment-based detail recognition strategy for pathology image segmentation (FASNet). It consists of a preprocessing model and a segmentation network (UNW). The UNW network performs instance normalization and categorical whitening of feature images by inserting semantics-aware normalization and semantics-aware whitening modules into the encoder and decoder, which achieves the compactness of features of the same class and the separation of features of different classes. The FASNet method can identify the feature detail information more efficiently, and thus differentiate between different classes of tissues effectively. The experimental results show that the FASNet method has a Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) value of 0.844. It achieves good performance even when faced with test data that does not match the distribution of the training data. Code: https://***/zlf010928/***. © 2024

Continual Learning for Smart City: A Survey

With the digitization of modern cities, large data volumes and powerful computational resources facilitate the rapid update of intelligent models deployed in smart cities. Continual learning (CL) is a novel machine learning paradigm that constantly updates models to adapt to changing environments, where the learning tasks, data, and distributions can vary over time. Our survey provides a comprehensive review of continual learning methods that are widely used in smart city development. The content consists of three parts: 1) Methodology-wise. We categorize a large number of basic CL methods and advanced CL frameworks in combination with other learning paradigms including graph learning, spatial-temporal learning, multi-modal learning, and federated learning. 2) application-wise. We present numerous CL applications covering transportation, environment, public health, safety, networks, and associated datasets related to urban computing. 3) Challenges. We discuss current problems and challenges and envision several promising research directions. We believe this survey can help relevant researchers quickly familiarize themselves with the current state of continual learning research used in smart city development and direct them to future research trends. Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems typically utilize sensors to gather a significant amount of raw data which often possesses temporal and high-dimensional characteristics. Ensuring the data reliability is crucial for the normal operation of the system. While most existing methods are capable of identifying anomalies in high-dimensional time series data from sensors, they often lack adequate accuracy and fail to adequately consider the correlation between sensor nodes. To address these limitations, we propose an unsupervised framework which is a combination of variational autoencoder and graph neural network(VG-Net). By jointly optimizing the reconstruction module and the prediction module, VG-Net effectively models the correlation between sensor nodes while simultaneously detecting anomalies. The reconstruction module is responsible for modeling the latent representation space and reconstructing the time series data through variational autoencoder. The prediction module leverages bidirectional long short term memory networks and neural tensor network to learn the relationships between sensor nodes, and uses graph neural network to predict the future behavior of the data. Experiments on eight real and synthetic datasets demonstrate that, compared with existing methods, VG-Net can accurately model the relationship between sensor nodes and enhance the anomaly detection performance of high-dimensional time series data.

Poverty threatens human development especially for developing countries,so ending poverty has become one of the most important United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).This study aims to explore China's progress in poverty reduction from 2016 to 2019 through time-series multi-source geospatial data and a deep learning *** poverty reduction efficiency(PRE)is measured by the difference in the out-of-poverty rates(which measures the probability of being not poor)of 2016 and *** study shows that the probability of poverty in all regions of China has shown an overall decreasing trend(PRE=0.264),which indicates that the progress in poverty reduction during this period is *** Hu Huanyong Line(Hu Line)shows an uneven geographical pattern of out-of-poverty rate between Southeast and Northwest *** 2016 to 2019,the centroid of China's out-of-poverty rate moved 105.786 km to the northeast while the standard deviation ellipse of the out-of-poverty rate moved 3 degrees away from the Hu Line,indicating that the regions with high out-of-poverty rates are more concentrated on the east side of the Hu Line from 2016 to *** results imply that the government's future poverty reduction policies should pay attention to the infrastructure construction in poor areas and appropriately increase the population density in poor *** study fills the gap in the research on poverty reduction under multiple scales and provides useful implications for the government's poverty reduction policy.

Re-identification (ReID) of individuals across different cameras is a challenging task due to the high-quality large-scale datasets required for the model. Intra-camera supervised (ICS) person re-identification has been proposed to address the high cost of annotating large-scale datasets, but reducing the gap between camera domains remains a major challenge. Current approaches use intra- and inter-camera learning with contrastive learning performed separately in both phases. However, the effect of features from the same person under different cameras on the model during inter-camera learning, and the fine-grained characteristic where the same person can be classified into multiple classes based on the camera labels, still require further research. To address this issue, we propose a Camera-Based Contrastive Learning (CBCL) method that moves features away from their respective cameras and closer to other cameras to reduce domain gaps. We also introduce an Intra-Person Camera Adversarial (IPCA) loss that effectively utilizes fine-grained characteristics of person re-identification and improve IPCA by introducing camera labels to obtain IPCA_2 which achieves better model recognition performance than IPCA alone. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms existing methods and is comparable to fully-supervised methods.

With the popularity of blockchains, low transaction throughput has become a significant bottleneck in applications such as cryptocurrencies. Payment channel networks (PCNs) have received attention as a way to improve throughput. However, due to the difficulty of predicting future transactions for nodes, the transactions are prone to failure when the channel balances do not meet required conditions. It has been shown that increasing buffers (queues) in PCNs can increase the success rate of transactions and throughput. Nevertheless, there is no effective transaction scheduling strategy in buffers when transaction values are flexible and variable. To solve this problem, we first formulate the Scheduling Problem in PCNs (named PSP), and then prove it is NP-hard. We design a neural network solver based on the Sequence to Sequence (Seq2Seq) architecture and train the solver using the reinforcement learning method. With the solver, we first give two scheduling strategies to maximize transaction throughput, and then design a PCN simulator for performance evaluation. Extensive experiments are conducted to show the superiority and various performances of our proposal and illustrate that our proposal can get a significant advantage in terms of the transaction throughput compared to the existing works. © 2024 IEEE.

The smart water meter in water supply network can directly affect water production and usage when faults occur. The traditional method of fault detection is inefficient with time lagging, which is not helpful for modernization of water supply system. The capability of automatic fault diagnosis of smart water meter is an important means to improve the service quality of water supply. In this paper, an automatic fault diagnosis method for the smart device is proposed based on BP neural network. And it was applied on Google Tensorflow platform. Fault symptom vectors were constructed using water meter status data and were used to train the neural network model. In order to improve the learning convergence speed and fault classification effect of the network, a method of weighted symptom was also employed. Experimental results show that it has good performance with a general fault diagnosis accuracy of 98.82%. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Facial image based kinship verification aims to decide whether there exists kinship between the given facial images. In practice, the cross-generation differences will cause adverse effects on kinship verification, which limits the performance. Therefore, how to mine the implied similarity from facial images with large cross-generation divergence is an important problem in kinship verification, which has not yet been well studied. In view of this, we propose a Similarity Mining via Implicit matching pattern LEarning (SMILE) approach for kinship verification. Specifically, SMILE mainly consists of two modules, including a Semi-coupled Multi-pattern Similarity Learning (SMSL) module and a Cross-Generation Feature Normalization (CGFN) module. The SMSL module is designed to learn multiple semi-coupled matching patterns for mining the implicit facial similarity information from different perspectives. The CGFN module aims to reduce the divergence between facial images of parent and child. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

This paper aims to establish a four-class classification brain-computer interface model with the optimal combination of features. By exploring the influence of feature vector combinations in different time windows on brain-computer interface (BCI) classification, the optimal 2-feature combination could be get. Four types of movement paradigms were studied based on the concentration of oxygenated hemoglobin (HbO) in the brain motor region. A total of 10 volunteers completed a set of movement patterns which included hand griping and arm lifting of two upper limbs. After extracting signal mean(SM) and signal slope(SS) eigenvectors, the 'one-versus-one' SVM algorithm was used for classification. The highest average classification accuracy rate reached 80.48%, and most of the participants got the highest classification accuracy in the combination time window of SM feature (05s) and SS feature (57s). In the case of the same time window of SM feature, the classification accuracy increased gradually with the selection of 35s, 46s, 57s respectively in the time window of SS feature. © 2020 IEEE.
