Malware detection becomes mission critical as its threats spread from personal computers to industrial control systems. Modern malware generally equips with sophisticated anti-detection mechanisms such as code-morphism, which allows the malware to evolve into many variants and bypass traditional code feature based detection systems. In this paper, we propose to disassemble binary executables into opcodes sequences, and then convert the opcodes into images. By comparing the opcode images generated from binary targets with the opcode images generated from known malware sample codes, we can detect if the target binary executables contain variants of these known malwares. Theoretical analysis and real-life experiments results show that malware detection using visualized analysis is comparable in terms of accuracy, our approach can significantly improve 15\% of detection accuracy when the detection set contains a large quantity of binaries and the training set is small.

With the rapid development of cloud services in multi-cloud environment, it is convenient to generate multi-replica for user's data stored in multi-cloud servers. On the one hand, multi-replica is able to improve data availability and users' experience. But on the other hand, it becomes increasingly easy to disclose sensitive data and brings serious challenges to security and privacy for user's data and its multi-replica. In order to tackle the above issues, in this paper, we propose a secure access and associate deleting scheme for multi-replica (MADS) in multi-cloud environment, which is based on symmetric encryption algorithm, attribute-based encryption and replica location technology. We construct a novel multi-layered key structure, called multi-way search key tree (MSKT) that ensures no key material will be revealed, yet the data owner is able to control the master key and manage other keys by performing some tree operations. We also propose a data replica associated model, which is able to associate all the data replicas in multi-cloud environment. Comprehensive comparison and security analysis demonstrate that the proposed MADS scheme is effective and secure. Copyright © 2016 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

In cloud computing environment, especially in big data era, adversary may use data deduplication service supported by the cloud service provider as a side channel to eavesdrop users' privacy or sensitive information. In order to tackle this serious issue, in this paper, we propose a secure data deduplication scheme based on differential privacy. The highlights of the proposed scheme lie in constructing a hybrid cloud framework, using convergent encryption algorithm to encrypt original files, and introducing differential privacy mechanism to resist against the side channel attack. Performance evaluation shows that our scheme is able to effectively save network bandwidth and disk storage space during the processes of data deduplication. Meanwhile, security analysis indicates that our scheme can resist against the side channel attack and related files attack, and prevent the disclosure of privacy information.

Rapid development of cloud storage services produces a tremendous amount of user data outsourcing to cloud servers. Therefore, it is easy to generate data multi-replica, which is able to improve data availability and users' experience. However, when the management of data is poor, the sensitive information will be disclosed more easily. This may bring serious security and privacy challenges for both user's data and its multi-replica in cloud environment. In order to tackle the above issues, in this paper, we propose a multi-replica associated deleting scheme (MADS) in cloud environment. We first introduce a replica associated model to organize all of data replicas among different cloud servers. Furthermore, we propose the MADS scheme which is consists of data storage algorithm, replica generation algorithm, replica deletion and feedback algorithm. Finally, we employ Amazon S3 to implement MADS and the results indicate that the proposed scheme is available and effective.

Increasing extreme weather events has made people confused with which year is the hottest or the coldest in recent years. To answer this question, the region scale and time must be considered. In this study, we calculate global surface temperature by using four surface temperature products at day and night retrieved from MODIS data. The global mean surface temperature is about 14.56° from 2001 to 2012, and the hottest and coldest surface temperatures of the global earth are in 2005 and 2008 in the recent twelve years. The hottest and coldest surface temperatures for the global land are in 2005 and 2001, and in 2010 and 2008 for Ocean. The hottest and coldest surface temperatures for Northern and Southern Hemisphere, Eastern and Western hemisphere, seven continents, and four Ocean are also obtained. The analysis indicates that the change is different in different region. We propose to build a spatial weather-climate model based on gravitational-magmatic change with the solar and the galactic system as its centre to analyze the long-term temperature changes.

Water vapor in the Earth's upper atmosphere plays a crucial in the radiative balance, hydrological process, and climate change. Based on the latest MODIS data, this study probes the spatio-temporal variations of global water vapor content in the past decade. It is found that overall the global water vapor concentrations declined over 2003-2012 (b=- 0.0149, R 2 =0.797, p=0.0005). The decreasing trend over the ocean surface (b= -0.017, R 2 =0.824, p=0.0003) is more explicit than over terrestrial surface (b= -0.010, R 2 =0.612, p=0.007), more significant over the Northern Hemisphere (b= -0.0175, R 2 =0.852, p=0.0001) than over the Southern Hemisphere (b= -0.0123, R 2 =0.682, p=0.003). Vegetation cover change is critical for an understanding of the impacts and responses of vegetation to climate change. The global vegetation growth has been analysised from 2001 to 2012. After thorough analysis based on satellite data, we find evidence that the global vegetation change little, and it is increasing slightly in Northern hemisphere while it is deceasing slightly in Southern Hemisphere. For different latitudes, the vegetation is increasing 0.17% every year from 60°N to 70 °N (R 2 =0.47, P>0.013), while the vegetation is decreasing 0.11% every year from 10°N to 10°S (R 2 =0.54, P>0.004). For different continents, the vegetation in South America is decreasing 0.16% every year (R 2 =0.78, P>0.0001) and it is increasing 0.05% every year in Asia (R 2 =0.28, P>0.072) and 0.25% every year in Oceania (R 2 =0.24, P>0.1).

In China, the expressway isn’t free. When a vehicle exits, the exit toll station needs to calculate the toll according to the vehicle trajectory obtained by sending a trajectory query task to the trajectory center remotely. For the accurate of toll and keep the exit smoothly, transmitting the trajectory result reliably and in time is a key issue. There are three heterogenous networks in expressway, Fibernet, Telecommunications Network and 3G. We concurrently exploit three heterogenous networks by allocating the trajectory result into three sub-flows where each sub-flow is transmitted in one kind of networks. But existing multipath transfer solution(FMTCP) doesn’t consider the difference of completed time among all sub-flows and can’t make sure the completed time in time. Therefore, we formulate the sub-flows schedule as a integer programming problem, which is proved to be NP-hard problem, and propose a Completion time-aware Flow Scheduling scheme (CaFS) which calculates the size of sub-flows. For the reliably, it exploits generation-based network coding. For the transmission in time, CaFS allocates the size of sub-flow into suitable generation and scheduling the generations. The simulation results demonstrate that, comparing with the FMTCP, CaFS improves 31. 9% in completion time and 30% in task finished rate. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

In smart grid, privacy implications to individuals and their family is an important issue, due to the fine-grained usage data collection. Wireless communications are considered by many utility companies to obtain information. Network coding is exploited in smart grids, to enhance network performance in terms of throughput, delay, robustness, and energy consumption. However, Network Coding introduces new challenge for privacy preserving due to the encoding of packet in forwarder nodes. We propose a distributed privacy preserving scheme for network coding in smart grid, which considers the converged flows character of smart grid and exploits a homomorphic encryption function to decrease the complex in forwarder node. The message content of packet is encrypted and the tag of packet is encrypted by homomorphic encryption function. Then the forwarder node linear random codes the encrypted message contents and directly processes the tags cryptotext based on the homomorphism feature. It offers message content confidentiality privacy preserving feature, which can efficiently thwart traffic analysis. Extensive security analysis and performance evaluations demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed scheme. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.
