Visual abstraction of dynamic network via improved multi-class blue noise sampling

Massive sequence view (MSV) is a classic timeline-based dynamic network visualization approach. However, it is vulnerable to visual clutter caused by overlapping edges, thereby leading to unexpected misunderstanding of time-varying trends of network communications. This study presents a new edge sampling algorithm called edge-based multi-class blue noise (E-MCBN) to reduce visual clutter in MSV. Our main idea is inspired by the multi-class blue noise (MCBN) sampling algorithm, commonly used in multi-class scatterplot decluttering. First, we take a node pair as an edge class, which can be regarded as an analogy to classes in multi-class scatterplots. Second, we propose two indicators, namely, class overlap and inter-class conflict degrees, to measure the overlapping degree and mutual exclusion, respectively, between edge classes. These indicators help construct the foundation of migrating the MCBN sampling from multi-class scatterplots to dynamic network samplings. Finally, we propose three strategies to accelerate MCBN sampling and a partitioning strategy to preserve local high-density edges in the MSV. The result shows that our approach can effectively reduce visual clutters and improve the readability of MSV. Moreover, our approach can also overcome the disadvantages of the MCBN sampling (i.e., long-running and failure to preserve local high-density communication areas in MSV). This study is the first that introduces MCBN sampling into a dynamic network sampling.

Introduction: The current digital twin systems usually have the drawback of high cost and complex technology, and it is necessary to develop a simple solution to reduce the cost and cycle for the development of digital twin systems, especially for small projects or systems with simple structures. Objective: A low-cost patent technology of digital twin system was proposed by taking the motion control and state monitoring system (MCSMS) of pneumatic muscle as an example. Methods: The MCSMS is developed based on the browser/server architecture. The software of 3ds Max and SolidWorks are used to make the virtual model, *** and JavaScript are applied to build the browser side. data of the physical world is collected and processed on the server side firstly, and then is sent to the browser side through HTTP communication protocol to realize data interchange between the browser and server. Results: In the roaming experiment and the experiment of motion control and state monitoring of pneumatic muscle, the MCSMS can work smoothly without obvious delay and has good real-time performance, which can realize the 3D visual monitoring of the pneumatic muscle very well. Conclusion: The experimental results indicate that the proposed method possesses the ability of good feasibility and effectiveness. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

Eco-environmental quality is a measure of the suitability of the ecological environment for human survival and socioeconomic *** the spatial-temporal distribution and variation trend of eco-environmental quality is essential for environmental protection and ecological *** remote sensing ecological index(RSEI)can quickly and objectively quantify eco-environmental quality and has been extensively utilized in regional ecological environment *** this paper,Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)images during the growing period(July-September)from 2000 to 2020 were obtained from the Google Earth Engine(GEE)platform to calculate the RSEI in the three northern regions of China(the Three-North region).The Theil-Sen median trend method combined with the Mann-Kendall test was used to analyze the spatial-temporal variation trend of eco-environmental quality,and the Hurst exponent and the Theil-Sen median trend were superimposed to predict the future evolution trend of eco-environmental *** addition,ten variables from two categories of natural and anthropogenic factors were analyzed to determine the drivers of the spatial differentiation of eco-environmental quality by the geographical *** results showed that from 2000 to 2020,the RSEI in the Three-North region exhibited obvious regional characteristics:the RSEI values in Northwest China were generally between 0.2 and 0.4;the RSEI values in North China gradually increased from north to south,ranging from 0.2 to 0.8;and the RSEI values in Northeast China were mostly above *** average RSEI value in the Three-North region increased at an average growth rate of 0.0016/a,showing the spatial distribution characteristics of overall improvement and local degradation in eco-environmental quality,of which the areas with improved,basically stable and degraded eco-environmental quality accounted for 65.39%,26.82%and 7.79%of the total study area,*** Hurst

From March 2017 to September 2019, we monitored meteorological factors, soil conditions and collected precipitation and soil water stable isotope data. Used the Craig-Gordon (C-G) model and the line-conditioned excess (lc-excess) couple with Rayleigh fractionation (RL) model to quantify SEL in subtropical secondary forests. The results showed: (1) Water source isotopic values were more positive in autumn and more negative in spring. Both models indicated drier conditions from March to September 2018 compared to 2017 and 2019;(2) Comparative analysis showed the C-G model agreed more closely with measured evapotranspiration (ET0) and water surface evaporation (E) than the RL model, indicating its better suitability for the study region;(3) Because the "inverse temperature effect" of the precipitation isotopes, the linear fitting method only conforms to the basic principle of soil evaporation in winter. Thus, the theoretical method was more suitable for determining the Evaporation Line (EL) slope in such regions;(4) Because the different fundamentals, the C-G model was positively correlated with air temperature (AT) and negatively with relative humidity (h), while the RL model showed the opposite, indicating different applicability. These findings showed stable isotope techniques are effective for quantifying SEL and crucial for studying soil water resources. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Under the more frequent and extreme global drought events, utilizing stable isotopes to quantify soil evaporation losses (SEL) is of great significance for understanding the water supply capacity from soil to plants. From March 2017 to September 2019, we continuously monitored meteorological factors, soil temperature and humidity, and collected precipitation and soil water stable isotope data. Used the Craig-Gordon (C-G) model and the line-conditioned excess (lc-excess) couple with Rayleigh fractionation (RL) model to quantify SEL in subtropical secondary forests. The results showed: (1) The theoretical Evaporation Line (EL) slope correlated negatively with air temperature (AT). Water source isotopic values were more positive in autumn and more negative in spring. The aridity index (AI) and soil evaporation loss ratio (f) from both models indicated drier conditions from March to September 2018 compared to 2017 and 2019;(2) Comparative analysis showed the C-G model agreed more closely with measured evapotranspiration (ET0) and water surface evaporation (E) than the RL model, indicating its better suitability for the study region;(3) Because the "inverse temperature effect" of the precipitation isotopes, the linear fitting method was not suitable for determining the water source in spring, summer, autumn, and on the annual scale, while the EL slope obtained by the fitted slope was consistent with the basic principle of soil evaporation in winter. Thus, the theoretical method was more suitable for determining the EL slope in such regions;(4) because the different fundamentals, the C-G model was positively correlated with air temperature (AT) and negatively with relative humidity (h), while the RL model showed the opposite, indicating different applicability. Meanwhile, SEL is influenced by soil thickness, atmospheric evaporation, and soil water supply capacities. Efficient Numerical Singular Integral (NSI) methods have been developed for both 1D and 2D electromagnetics problems, in both the Cartesian and polar coordinates. Through a special type of integration by parts, rigorous mathematics derivation has been performed to decompose the original singular integrals into sum of non-singular integrals that can be evaluated numerically. It can be shown that it is more convenient to evaluate the line-type singularity in the Cartesian coordinate;while it is better to evaluate the point-type singularity in the polar coordinate. Also, numerical schemes to find the order of singularity has been presented. Finally, to validate the 2D numerical singular integral methods, the electromagnetic scattering problem of a 2D reflecting ellipse antenna has been simulated through the Ping-Pong algorithm developed by the authors. © 2022 IEEE.

Background: There is a shortage of rehabilitation doctors and treatment equipment for patients with lumbar spondylosis. Therefore, a waist massage instrument (WMI) is designed to help patients alle-viate lumbar pain. Objective: The objective of this study is to design a new WMI with the advantages of simple structure, lightweight, and function of effective force control, and to verify its function of palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration based on the on-off control, PID control, and fuzzy-PID control. Methods: Firstly, the movement characteristics of the Chinese massage manipulation are analyzed to clarify the design principle of the massage instrument. Then, a new WMI composed of massage head, vibration exciter, and actuator is designed to simulate the three massage manipulations. Next, the electric control system and control methods of on-off, PID, and fuzzy-PID controllers are introduced to realize the force control of WMI. Finally, the force control experiments of WMI are carried out to verify the function of the palmar press, palmar push, and palmar vibration based on the on-off control, PID control, and fuzzy-PID control, respectively. Results: The experimental results indicate that the proposed WMI can implement the massage manipulations of palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration well, and has good force control ability after using fuzzy-PID control. Conclusion: The newly designed WMI is effective in providing palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration massage manipulations for patients with lumbar spondylosis, and the fuzzy-PID controller im-proves the force control ability of the instrument. The WMI has the potential to be used as an effective treatment for lumbar pain. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

Aim: In order to realize the position of acupoints on the back of humans, a new acupoints positioning approach combined with machine vision technology is proposed in this paper. Background: The acupuncture point (acupoint) is an important reference in the treatment of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). However, the traditional acupoints positioning method mainly depends on manpower, which has the disadvantages of low efficiency and relying on practical experience heavily. Objective: In order to realize the position of acupoints on the back of humans, a new acupoints positioning approach combined with machine vision technology is proposed in this paper. Methods: Firstly, the distribution of acupoints on the back of humans are determined according to the meridian theory, and the coordinate of each acupoint are established based on the approach of fingercun measurement, after review of previous literature and patents. Secondly, the principle of the proposed acupoints positioning method is introduced based on the skeleton model of humans. Finally, the effec-tiveness of the proposed approach is validated by experimental testing. Results: The value of emax is around 3.5mm and those of emae and erms are smaller than 0.25mm and 0.45mm, respectively. Conclusion: The experimental results prove that the proposed approach possesses the capability of good adaptive capability and high. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.
