White blood cell (WBC, leukocyte) in blood smear image plays a crucial role in the diagnosis of many blood diseases. WBC segmentation is an important preprocessing step in blood disease diagnosis. However, due to some factors such as different dying technologies and different WBC appearances, WBC segmentation is still challenging. To improve accuracy of WBC segmentation, we propose an end-to-end WBC segmentation network. Specifically, we first introduce Dual Path Network (DPN) as a context-aware feature encoder to extract multi-scale image features. Then, we use a channel attention module to capture the interdependencies between channel maps, and further enhance feature representation capability of the proposed network. Finally, we reconstruct WBC feature maps by a feature decoder, and use skip connections to reduce image information loss. Experimental results on three datasets show that the proposed method obtains higher segmentation accuracy than the other methods.

Hazy weather brings a lot of inconvenience to peoples lives, such as transportation. Therefore, image dehazing is still an important focus point. To achieve image dehazing, we proposed a Deep Dilated Residual Haze Network (DDRHNet) based on self-encoder and self-decoder. The proposed mode is an end-to-end supervised method, which directly estimates image dehazing result instead of estimating the atmospheric light and the transmission in the unsupervised and classical atmospheric scattering model. The DDRHNet method obtains image dehazed result by finding the difference between the input hazy image and the output of haze-free image. Experimental results on an open image dehazing dataset called SOTS demonstrate the superiority of the proposed DDRHNet network. © 2019 IEEE.

Despite the potential benefits of data augmentation for mitigating the data insufficiency, traditional augmentation methods primarily rely on the prior intra-domain knowledge. On the other hand, advanced generative adversarial networks (GANs) generate inter-domain samples with limited variety. These previous methods make limited contributions to describing the decision boundaries for binary classification. In this paper, we propose a distance guided GAN (DisGAN) which controls the variation degrees of generated samples in the hyperplane space. Specifically, we instantiate the idea of DisGAN by combining two ways. The first way is vertical distance GAN (VerDisGAN) where the inter-domain generation is conditioned on the vertical distances. The second way is horizontal distance GAN (HorDisGAN) where the intra-domain generation is conditioned on the horizontal distances. Furthermore, VerDisGAN can produce the class-specific regions by mapping the source images to the hyperplane. Experimental results show that DisGAN consistently outperforms the GAN-based augmentation methods with explainable binary classification. The proposed method can apply to different classification architectures and has potential to extend to multi-class classification. We provide the code in https://***/yXiangXiong/DisGAN. The oscillations of a class of impulsive vector hyperbolic partial differential equations with delays are studied. Our approach is to reduce the multi-dimensional oscillation problems to the nonexistence of positive solutions of one-dimensional impulsive delay differential inequalities by applying inner product reducing dimension method and differential inequality technique. Some sufficient conditions for H-oscillation of all solutions of the equations under Dirichlet boundary value condition are established, where H denotes a unit vector. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As a novel network paradigm, Software Defined Networking (SDN) decouples control logic functions from data forwarding devices, and introduces a separate control plane to manipulate underlying switches via southbound interfaces like OpenFlow. However, it leads to large-scale flow tables and poses serious challenges on their storage resources and lookup performance in OpenFlow switches. This paper is thus motivated to propose an efficient differentiated storage architecture for large-scale flow tables in OpenFlow networks. Firstly, we investigate into the impact of wildcards in match fields on packet-in-batch property within a flow based on network traffic locality. Then, packet flows are dynamically distinguished into active ones and idle ones in terms of their short-term states. Subsequently, we store the match fields of active flows and idle flows respectively in TCAM and SRAM, and the content fields of both types of flows in DRAM, to effectively relieve the insufficiency of TCAM capacity. Finally, we evaluate the performance of our proposed flow table storage architecture with real network traffic traces by experiments. The experimental results indicate that our proposed storage architecture obviously outperforms the traditional one applying the elephant/mice flow differentiation method in terms of TCAM hit rates and average flow table access time. © 2019 IEEE.

The boundary-layer method is used to study a wide moving jam to a class of higher-order viscous models. The equations for characteristic parameters are derived to determine the asymptotic solution. The sufficient and essential conditions for the wide moving jam formation are discussed in detail, respectively, and then used to prove or disprove the existence of the wide moving jam solutions to many well-known higher-order models. It is shown that the numerical results agree with the analytical results.

Video-based person re-identification is an important research area in computer vision. Quality Aware Network (QAN) is a model that is robust to noise in the videos. It calculates the weighted average of all the frames' image features, with each frame's quality score as the weight, and generates a video feature. However, the QAN has poor ability to distinguish pedestrians with highly similar clothing. To address this problem, we analyze the advantages and shortcomings of Quality Pooling and Max Pooling in theory, and propose the Frame Quality and Max Pooling based Late Feature Fusion Method (QMFF). It aims at enhancing the QAN's ability to distinguish pedestrians with similar clothing. First, use Quality Pooling to get the initial ranking list. Then, for each Query, judge whether the top-N candidates in the ranking list are highly similar in clothing to one another. If the Query meets the similarity criterion, Max Pooling with Frame Quality Filter is used. Local salient features selected by Max Pooling help distinguish pedestrians more accurately. Experimental results on the iLIDS-VID dataset show that the proposed method is superior to the QAN and many recently proposed methods.

A hybrid algorithm that integrates PSO with Lagrangian relaxation is proposed for solving the multidimensional knapsack problem (MKP). An efficiency measure for MKP based on the LR dual information is defined to combine the object function and the constraints of the MKP together. The efficiency measure is used to determine the core problem for MKP with the aim of reducing the problem scale. Then a hybrid algorithm combines the Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization with a local search method is presented to solve the core problem. Numerical experiments are made on certain knapsack problems and computational results show that the proposed algorithm is very promising. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) constitutes an essential and promising paradigm that relies programmable wireless environment and provides capability for space-intensive communications, due to the use of low-cost massive reflecting elements over the entire surfaces of man-made structures. However, accurate channel estimation is a fundamental technical prerequisite to achieve the huge performance gains from RIS. By leveraging the low rank structure of RIS channels, three practical residual neural networks, named convolutional blind denoising network, convolutional denoising generative adversarial networks and multiple residual dense network, are proposed to obtain accurate channel state information, which can reflect the impact of different methods on the estimation performance. Simulation results reveal the evolution direction of these three methods and reveal their superior performance compared with existing benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2021, The Authors.
