Many deflected fault zones exist under the dam foundation Xiang-jiaba hydropower Station in southwestern China. Clastic rock is the main medium with poor physical and mechanical properties. In or-der to study the creep properties of the clastic rock, triaxial compression creep experiments were carried out on a rock servo-controlling rheology testing machine. From the test results, it can be concluded that the clastic rock has obvious creep characteristics, and the time-dependent deformation is large. Based on the test results, the relationship between axial strain and time under different confining pressures is studied. The relationship between axial strain rates and deviatoric stress under different stress levels is also discussed in de-tail. Furthermore, the creep failure mechanism under different confining pressures is analyzed as well. Therefore, the creep law of the clastic rock specimen is gained. The relationship between the Burgers creep model and its parameters is obtained by fitting the creep curve with Burgers creep model. The result shows that Burgers model can accurately describe the creep properties of the clastic rock in Xiang-jiaba Hydro-power Project. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

Boron (B) deficiency affects over 132 crop species globally, making effective B supplement crucial for enhancing agricultural yield and health. This study explores an innovative application of nanoscale boron nitride (nano-BN) as a sustainable solution for addressing B deficiency in crops. Cucumber seedlings were treated with different contents of nano-BN under greenhouse conditions and both B and N ionic treatments were set as comparisons. Results show that soil application of 10 mg/kg nano-BN achieved a remarkable 15.8 % increase in fresh weight compared to the control. Notably, nano-BN exhibited superior efficiency in providing essential micronutrients without inducing toxicity as compared to traditional ionic B sources. Phytohormone correlation analysis reveals that nano-BN application significantly enhances levels of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and cytokinins while reducing abscisic acid (ABA), fostering optimal plant growth conditions. Furthermore, increases in dissolved organic matter (DOM) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) levels in the rhizosphere improve nutrient availability and promote beneficial microbial activity in the soil as affected by nano-BN. Metagenomics techniques were used to investigate the impact of nano-BN on soil carbon and nitrogen cycling, alongside its effects on the soil microbiome. The upregulation of genes associated with fermentation pathways as affected by nano-BN suggests the enhanced carbon cycling. Additionally, nano-BN upregulated a number of functional genes involved in nitrogen-based processes, leading to a significant increase in microorganisms harboring nitrogen-fixing genes, including Phenylobacterium, Novosphingobium, and Reyranella. Overall, these findings provide valuable insight into the application of nano-BN in agriculture to sustainably increase crop productivity and enhance the efficiency of carbon and nitrogen cycling. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Optimization of Sr-Doping Boosting the Structural Stability for Single Crystalline LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 Cathode to Enhance its Electrochemical Performance at Elevated Voltage and Temperature

Single crystalline (SC) Ni-rich cathode materials have been considered the potential cathodes for the next generation lithium-ion batteries. Unfortunately, some inevitable defects, such as severe irreversible phase transition, microcracks formation and transition metal dissolution at high voltage, hinder its commercial applications. Herein, a high stable modified SC LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode is prepared by using Sr doping strategy, which is helpful to tackle the above challenges simultaneously. The introduction of Sr atoms can occupy the transition metal sites of the material, resulting in the increase of Li/Ni exchange energy and the improvement of oxygen layer stability. Furthermore, the Sr doping can promote the growth of primary particles and reduce the agglomeration of single crystal particles. The optimized doped sample of 0.5Sr-NCM exhibits pronounced improvements in pouch-type full cell with a remarkable capacity retention of 86.6% after 1200 cycles at 1C between 2.8-4.35V (45oC), while the pristine sample only shows a capacity retention of 80.8% after 798 cycles. The mechanism of enhanced electrochemical properties for the doped sample is revealed by the transmission electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and density functional theory calculation. This work provides a facile strategy to regulate the bulk structure of SC Ni-rich materials, which is suitable for the current industrialized system of Ni-rich materials and may promote the development of high energy density lithium-ion batteries. © 2022, The Authors. The multilayer graphene(MLG) reinforced WC-10Ni3Al cemented carbide was prepared by microwave sintering. The effects of sintering temperature and MLG content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the WC-10Ni3Al cemented carbide were investigated. The promotion effect and strengthening mechanism of MLG on WC-10Ni3Al by microwave sintering were analyzed. The tribological properties of WC-10Ni3Al-MLG and Ti6Al4V were studied, and the wear mechanism of WC-10Ni3Al-MLG was analyzed. The experiment result show that, when the sintering temperature was 1450 °C and MLG content was 0.5wt.%, the sample reached the highest mechanical properties and had a relative density of 96.9%, hardness of 1430 HV, flexural strength of 1410 MPa and fracture toughness of 15.7 MPa·mm1/2, which were 4.2%, 12.2%, 24.4% and 29.6% higher than those of the sample without MLG, respectively. The strengthening mechanisms of MLG in microwave sintered WC-Ni3Al consist of densification enhancement, fine crystal strengthening, energy absorption through MLG pulling out and breaking. The results of friction experiment show that the friction coefficient and wear rate of WC-10Ni3Al-MLG are lower than those of YG8. The lowest friction coefficient of 0.35 and the lowest wear rate of 1.69×10-5mm3N-1m-1 were obtained for WC-10Ni3Al-0.5wt. %MLG samples. A stable solid lubrication film was produced on the friction surface of the WC-10Ni3Al-MLG sample, which was conducive to reducing the breakage and wear of WC grains. MLG can enhance the stability of solid lubrication film and reduce its friction coefficient. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A vibration monitoring system based on fiber Bragg grating is proposed to meet the need of protective barrier along the railway to monitor the foreign matter invasion. A high sensitivity fiber Bragg grating vibration sensor based on cantilever structure is developed. Three vibration sensors were deployed to a protective barrier with a length of 20 meters to conduct intrusion vibration monitoring test. Test results show that: 1) the fiber Bragg grating vibration sensor can well monitor the vibration signal;2) the vibration intensity decreases obviously with the distance impact position increasing;3) the response time of vibration measurement of different sensors is also in sequence when the distance impact location is different. Therefore, the magnitude of the external impact and the impact position in the protective barrier can be analyzed through the response amplitude distribution of each sensor and the response time sequence of the sensors. © 2020 Journal of Physics: Conference Series.

Attribution Analysis of Water-Sediment Nexus Changes for the Fluctuating Backwater Zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Under Changing Environmental Conditions

As one of the carbon neutralization or reduction strategies, constructing large hydroelectric dams leads to the formation of fluctuating backwater zones (FBZs). Synchronization of water and sediment under the impacts of climatic changes and human activities over FBZs is still an open question due to the diverse particularities of the zones. Taking the FBZ of the world's largest hydroelectric power station, that is, Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), as a typical example, we attempt to address such a question in this study. Based on analyses of water-sediment characteristics, relationships, and covariations, the Budyko hypothesis and a sediment attribution decomposition method are coupled to quantitatively examine the impacts on the synchronization. Modeling results reveal that the construction of large cascade reservoirs dominates the decrease in sediment load (e.g., 73.9% for the Jialing River basin from 1985 to 2020), and the alteration of runoff-sediment relationships across the FBZ. The dominator (accounting for 46.01%) of increasing annual average runoffs upstream of the FBZ is a wetting climate, while that (64.14%) for decreasing ones in the Jialing River as a tributary is human activities;by contrast, human activities play dominant roles (from 72.1% to 98.1%) in the reduction of sediment loads over the FBZ. These findings provide scientific support for addressing water-sediment-related issues such as navigational safety, sediment deposition, and water environment over worldwide FBZs. © 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Effect of Shrinkage Reducing Agent and HCSA Expansion Agent on Mechanical Properties and Shrinkage Properties of UHPC

In this paper, we mainly compared the effects of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) on strength and shrinkage when the shrinkage redu-cing agent and high performance concrete expansion agent (HCSA) were combined and mixed. The results show that the shrinkage reducing agent will delay the hydration of cement and increase the setting time, which is not conducive to the development of early strength of concrete. As the amount (0wt%-2wt%) of shrinkage reducing agent increases, the autogenous shrinkage of UHPC decreases. When the amount of shrin-kage reducing agent is 0.5wt%, the drying shrinkage can be effectively reduced. The HCSA expansion agent will accelerate the UHPC setting time and develop the early strength. HCSA expansion agent can reduce the number of harmful pores inside the concrete and reduce the total porosity, which can reduce the autogenous shrinkage and drying shrinkage of UHPC;When the agent is in excess, sufficient moisture cannot be obtained to participate in the hydration, and there is a risk of damaging the structure. When the shrinkage reducing agent and the HCSA expansion agent are compounded, the compressive strength and flexural strength of the UHPC are greater than those of the single anti-shrinkage agent, and less than the strength when the HCSA expansion agent is directly doped. When the 2wt% shrinkage reducing agent and the 10wt% HCSA expansion agent are compounded, the inhibition of UHPC shrinkage is the best and the mechanical properties of UHPC are high. © 2021, Materials Review Magazine.
