This paper presents a new approach in solving the device recognition problem for VLSI circuits. The COMFOR system is a universal electrical circuit extractor. This extractor operates on a mask layout to recognize the electrical components, and compute their characteristics. The COMFOR system can handle any technology and work on large circuit layouts. It is based on both logic programming notions and syntactic pattern recognition techniques. The COMFOR system generates a complete description for an electrical simulator.

The main purpose in redesigning the 8048 Intel Microcomputer in CMOS technology is to test our tools efficiency and evaluate our design methodology, called CAPRI (ref 1), which researches a good factor of regularity. This paper presents a method of implementing microprocessor circuitry in CMOS. By this way, we have introduced a symbolism to make the designer task easy and so, this person does not have to deal with design rules.
