This work models a distributed community-based market with diverse assets (photovoltaic generators and energy storage systems), accounting for network constraints and adopting the relaxed branch flow model. The market is modeled in a single and fully distributed approach, employing the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to prevent voltage and line capacity problems in the community network and improve data privacy and reduce the communication burden. Different scenarios, based on the penalty term and the agents' number, are tested to study the efficiency of the algorithm and the convergence rate of the ADMM distributed model. The proposed method is tested on 10-bus, 22-bus, and 33-bus medium voltage radial distribution networks, where each node contains a large prosumer with one or several assets. One important conclusion is that the implemented residual balancing technique improves the efficiency of the ADMM distributed algorithm by increasing the convergence rate and reducing the computational time.

Electric power systems are currently experiencing a profound change, as increasing amounts of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) displace conventional forms of generation. This development has gone hand-in-hand with an increasing share of distributed power generation being connected directly to the Distribution Network (DN), and the widespread of other types of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), such as Energy Storage Sytems (ESSs), Electric Vehicles (EVs), and active (flexible) consumers. As these trends are expected to continue, this will require a profound revision of the way Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs) interact with each other to fully benefit from the growing flexibility that is available at the DN level. In this work we propose a new tool for the coordinated operational planning of transmission and distribution systems, considering the existence of shared resources that can be simultaneously used by TSO and DSOs for the optimal operation of their networks. The tool uses advanced distributed optimization techniques, namely the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) in order to maintain data privacy of the several agents involved in the optimization problem, and keep the tractability of the problem. The proposed tool is applied to modified IEEE test systems, and the results obtained highlight the benefits of the proposed coordination mechanism to solve problems occurring simultaneously at the transmission and DN-levels.

Cloud computing environments provide users with Internet-based services and one of their main challenges is security issues. Hence, using Intrusion Detection systems (IDSs) as a defensive strategy in such environments is essential. Multiple parameters are used to evaluate the IDSs, the most important aspect of which is the feature selection method used for classifying the malicious and legitimate activities. We have organized this research to determine an effective feature selection method to increase the accuracy of the classifiers in detecting intrusion. A Hybrid Ant-Bee Colony Optimization (HABCO) method is proposed to convert the feature selection problem into an optimization problem. We examined the accuracy of HABCO with BHSVM, IDSML, DLIDS, HCRNNIDS, SVMTHIDS, ANNIDS, and GAPSAIDS. XDense is a novel wired 2D-mesh grid sensor network system for application scenarios that benefit from densely deployed sensing (e.g. thousands of sensors per square meter). It was conceived for closed-loop cyber-physical systems (CPS) that require real-time actuation, like active flow control (AFC) on aircraft wing surfaces. XDense communication and distributed processing capabilities are designed such that they enable to extract complex features within bounded time and in a responsive manner. In this paper we tackle the issue of deterministic behavior of XDense. We present a methodology that uses traffic shaping heuristics to guarantee bounded communication delays and the fulfillment of memory requirements. We evaluate the model for varied network configurations and workload, and demonstrate the effectiveness of running real-time applications supported on XDense.

This paper describes a novel experimental setup exploiting state-of-the - art capture equipment to collect a multimodally rich game-solving collaborative multiparty dialogue corpus. The corpus is targeted and designed towards the development of a dialogue system platform to explore verbal and nonverbal tutoring strategies in multiparty spoken interactions. The dialogue task is centered on two participants involved in a dialogue aiming to solve a card-ordering game. The participants were paired into teams based on their degree of extraversion as resulted from a personality test. With the participants sits a tutor that helps them perform the task, organizes and balances their interaction and whose behavior was assessed by the participants after each interaction. Different multimodal signals captured and auto-synchronized by different audio-visual capture technologies, together with manual annotations of the tutor's behavior constitute the Tutorbot corpus. This corpus is exploited to build a situated model of the interaction based on the participants' temporally-changing state of attention, their conversational engagement and verbal dominance, and their correlation with the verbal and visual feedback and conversation regulatory actions generated by the tutor.

This paper presents a decentralized architecture for the islanding operation of distribution grids with large volume of distributed generation. This architecture involves the definition of network blocks which share the responsibility of frequency control. The control block abstraction was particularly designed to support the transition from regular grids to smart grids. In addition, the control schemes were developed using an agent-based paradigm. Hence, an agent-based simulation platform was implemented using libraries from the Java Agent Development Framework (JADE). The control schemes were evaluated using a test system with different sorts of distributed energy resources and modeled in the EUROSTAG environment. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the control architecture when different failure events are applied to the test system.

This paper aims to describe an approach to create a useful and effective solution to facilitate the reading of musical scores during the performance or study of pieces, using the aid of Mixed Reality (MR), mobile devices, digital scores, and Data Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI). MR can be defined as a system that combines physical objects with virtual objects. MIDI is a digital file containing musical notation information that can be interpreted by electronic devices. In this project, we aim to use HoloLens glasses and mobile devices, such as tablets or smartphones. The HoloLens are devices that can be used to create realistic holograms to visually represent the scores. The use of the various devices is intended to make the performance easier. The proposed approach aims to interpret scores in MIDI format and present them in hologram format to the MR glasses and graphical format to the mobile devices. In parallel, the system should be able to synchronize the presentation between different devices.

The interrogation of optic fiber sensors usually relies in complex and costly equipment with low portability due to their size such as Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSA) or high-resolution spectrometers. Because of this, micro spectrometer devices, such as Micro-Electromechanical systems (MEMS) with Fabry-Pérot tunable filters, are emerging as simpler and compact alternatives capable of being used to acquire spectral information in a wide wavelength band. In this work it is described the development of an interrogation system capable of infrared spectroscopy using a MEMS Fabry-Pérot Interferometer (MEMS-FPI) with a spectral response in the 1350nm to 1650nm range. Its performance is tested with the interrogation of long period fiber gratings both as a refractive index sensor and as a temperature sensor. Deconvolution techniques such as Wiener filtering are used to reduce the impact of the tunable filter's impulse response in the measured signal. Results are comparable to those obtained using a typical OSA which shows the system's potential as a cheaper and more transportable alternative. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Human motion analysis can provide valuable information for supporting the clinical assessment of movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease (PD). In this contribution, we study the suitability of a Kinect v2 based system for supporting PD assessment in a clinical environment, in comparison to the original Kinect (v1). In this study, 3-D body joint data were acquired from both normal subjects, and PD patients treated with deep brain stimulation (DBS). Then, several gait parameters were extracted from the gathered data.
