In this study, we focused on analyzing customer-generated data on Facebook to explore how textual content on a social web can provide valuable information for decision support. To accomplish this goal, we used several techniques that included social network analysis (SNA), natural language processing (NLP), data mining (DM), and machine learning (ML), integrating them with artificial intelligence approaches. Our analysis aimed to harness the information generated during the Volkswagen pollutant emissions situation in a case study that was conducted using the textual content from 10,642 posts, that represented the interactions of 25,877 users over a span of twenty-two weeks. The results demonstrated that monitoring online social networks (OSNs) can significantly enhance decision-making processes and might help to mitigate potential damages to brands/businesses. By leveraging the proposed methodological approach, a set of orientations for decision-making was extracted, providing valuable guidance for brand management and reputation protection. Overall, this study highlights the importance of analyzing textual content on OSNs and leveraging advanced computational techniques to improve decision support. © 2023 The authors and IOS Press.

The key goal of this work is to explore interactions and discursive exchanges between social users, to extract information towards decision support. We analyzed customer-generated data on Facebook, during a period of a ten-day strike, of a well-known airline company. The main goal was to check service and responsiveness of the airline, and also to develop indicators that might enable reviewing and reinforce strategies to be used in customer service response to strike events. The authors aim to investigate the possibility of structuring data, collected from OSN's, incorporating human interaction and network structure, using SNA to study the network from a duo fold manner: the web discourse, which depends on the transmission of information;and the interaction among social users, as information disseminators. Our work intends to determine whether social users and their interactions are consistent with the creation of indicators for decision support. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Epidemiological surveillance of Tuberculosis (TB) requires a strong integration of different health services, programs and levels of care. The deepening and broadening of data management techniques must be constantly carried out to increase the integrality of healthcare. Otherwise, knowledge extraction and clinical and administrative decision-making processes are significantly hampered, directly affecting the management and quality of health services. Thus, this work aims to establish a computerized decision support system capable of collecting, integrating and sharing TB health data in Brazilian Unified Public Health System. Also, it will allow the monitoring of infected patients and the visualization of consolidated information of regular TB and its resistant variants for health professionals and managers. The data will be made available from heterogeneous, disconnected and unstructured sources by combining traditional web services, Semantic Web resources and security algorithms. A solid knowledge base applied to epidemiological surveillance, health information governance and clinical support will be enabled to integrate the multiple areas of TB patients care, as well as to support the creation of more accurate operational and diagnostics models.

This paper addresses the problem of the worldwide electricity consumption increase, namely in the building sector, with the focus on the office (banking) market segment. Buildings are dynamic entities, with constantly changing needs and occupancy. An energy audit shows only a snapshot of the building profile because it is driven at a specific time, and utility bills can be viewed as "rear-view mirror" since they only show past consumptions and not real-time consumptions. In this way, this paper presents an energy monitoring and remote management methodology for the banking sector and the case study accomplished in one of the most well established Portuguese banks. The presented methodology reached measured annual savings of 18,5% of the total consumption of the 19 central buildings and the 358 branches involved in the project.

Semantic Web technologies are intertwined with decision-making processes. In this paper the general objectives of the semantic web tools are reviewed and characterized, as well as the categories of decision support tools, in order to establish an intersection of utility and use.
