A survey on cross-user federated recommendation

Recommender systems are effective in mitigating information overload, yet the centralized storage of user data raises significant privacy concerns. Cross-user federated recommendation(CUFR) provides a promising distributed paradigm to address these concerns by enabling privacy-preserving recommendations directly on user devices. In this survey, we review and categorize current progress in CUFR, focusing on four key aspects: privacy, security, accuracy, and efficiency. Firstly,we conduct an in-depth privacy analysis, discuss various cases of privacy leakage, and then review recent methods for privacy protection. Secondly, we analyze security concerns and review recent methods for untargeted and targeted *** untargeted attack methods, we categorize them into data poisoning attack methods and parameter poisoning attack methods. For targeted attack methods, we categorize them into user-based methods and item-based methods. Thirdly,we provide an overview of the federated variants of some representative methods, and then review the recent methods for improving accuracy from two categories: data heterogeneity and high-order information. Fourthly, we review recent methods for improving training efficiency from two categories: client sampling and model compression. Finally, we conclude this survey and explore some potential future research topics in CUFR.

Traffic engineering and Quality of Service in Hybrid Software Defined Networks

For Future networks, many research projects have proposed different architectures around the globe;Software Defined Network(SDN) architectures, through separating Data and Control Layers, offer a crucial structure for it. With a worldwide view and centralized Control, the SDN network provides flexible and reliable network management that improves network throughput and increases link utilization. In addition, it supports an innovative flow scheduling system to help advance Traffic engineering(TE). For Medium and large-scale networks migrating directly from a legacy network to an SDN Network seems more complicated & even impossible, as there are High potential challenges, including technical, financial, security, shortage of standards, and quality of service degradation challenges. These challenges cause the birth and pave the ground for Hybrid SDN networks, where SDN devices coexist with traditional network devices. This study explores a Hybrid SDN network’s Traffic engineering and Quality of Services Issues. Quality of service is described by network characteristics such as latency, jitter, loss, bandwidth,and network link utilization, using industry standards and mechanisms in a Hybrid SDN Network. We have organized the related studies in a way that the Quality of Service may gain the most benefit from the concept of Hybrid SDN networks using different algorithms and mechanisms: Deep Reinforcement Learning(DRL), Heuristic algorithm, K path partition algorithm, Genetic algorithm, SOTE algorithm, ROAR method, and Routing Optimization with different optimization mechanisms that help to ensure high-quality performance in a Hybrid SDN Network.

DSANet: dilated spatial attention network for the detection of text, non-text and touching components in unconstrained handwritten documents

Handwritten documents generated in our day-to-day office work, class room and other sectors of society carry vital information. Automatic processing of these documents is a pipeline of many challenging steps. The very first and crucial step is to identify text separately from the non-text as any OCR (optical character recognition) engine can only process the textual content. Separating text from non-text in unconstrained handwritten documents is a very complex task. In addition to other challenges, touching component is one of the major issues for text non-text separation in unconstrained handwritten documents. Detection of text, non-text along with touching component in such documents is an unexplored area of research. To address this issue, in this work, we develop a dilated spatial attention-based network for text, non-text and touching component detection. Additionally, in this work, we also prepare a realistic dataset for the said task. In the proposed dataset, the present model obtains overall accuracy of 87.85%. The performance of the present model is compared with seven feature-engineering-based methods and six deep learning-based methods. In most of the cases, the proposed model outperforms the comparing methods in the proposed dataset. Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Transfer Learning Based Approach to Classify Lung and Colon Cancer

Several genetic disorders and other metabolic abnormalities work together to generate the lethal disease known as cancer. Today’s most contributing factors to mortality and disability in patients are lung and colon cancer. A World Health Organization (WHO) 2020 report listed cancer as one of the leading causes of mortality globally. About 2.735 million of these fatalities were caused by lung and colon cancer combined. A critical component of the patient’s treatment is the diagnosis of lung cancer by histopathology. Therefore, one of the leading research priorities, mostly in the domain of biomedical health information systems, is the identification and categorization of lung and colon cancer. The present article encompasses the Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and transfer learning-based approaches to classify lung as well as colon cancer. LBP has been used for extracting features, and transfer learning has been used for the classification of lung and colon cancer. Histopathological (LC25000) lung and colon datasets are used to validate the proposed methodology. The results of the proposed method have also been compared with different existing methods and reported in the article. Our proposed method has an average accuracy of 99.00% and a F1 score of 99.2%, whereas precision and recall have 99.4% for lung and colon cancer detection. The results of the investigation demonstrate that our suggested technique greatly outperforms current models. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

A hybrid memory architecture supporting fine-grained data migration

In this digital era, users frequently share their thoughts, preferences, and ideas through social media, which reflect their Basic Human Values. Basic Human Values (aka values) are the fundamental aspects of human behavior, which define what we consider important, and worth having and pursue them. Existing studies identify the values of individuals from different social network usages such as Facebook and Reddit. However, discovering the similarity (or diversity) of value priorities among the members in a group is important since we can reveal many interesting insights such as finding a set of target customers, identifying the chain of misdeed groups, searching for similar acquaintances in workplaces, etc. In this paper, a graph dataset is compiled using the strongest correlation among the features and then we apply a graph clustering technique to identify a suitable hedonist group (i.e., one dimension of values) for users’ recommendations. Then, we also propose a behavior based (i.e., value) group recommendation technique by analyzing users’ contextual and psychological attributes. Finally, we validate those group members in real life by introducing two hypotheses. In particular, we analyze the tweets of a total of 1140 users collected from Twitter. We obtain a substantial intra-cluster correlation coefficient (ICC) and silhouette clustering coefficient (SCC) scores of 65% and 76%, respectively, among the members in our discovered group. © The Author(s) 2024.

VSMCNN-dynamic summarization of videos using salient features from multi-CNN model

A dynamic video summarization system detects key parts of the input video to generate its compact representation. The summaries can be used for efficient management of video data. This paper proposes an approach, Video summarization based on multi-CNN model (VSMCNN), that exploits major aspects of human cognition to generate meaningful summaries from videos. As the method focuses on dynamic summarization, the input video is divided into a set of shots. A multi-CNN model, which is a combination of different pre-trained models of CNN, is used for feature extraction from shots. The salient features are extracted from high dimensional feature vector using an unsupervised feature reduction technique applied in multiple subspaces to rank features in the vector. The distance measure between feature vectors is then thresholded to detect prime parts of the tested video. Experiments are performed on SumMe dataset and the results prove that our approach is successful in detecting portions of the tested video that has an essential message. The analysis shows that the method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in the literature. Further evaluation on comparison with human-generated summaries in the ground truth proves the effectiveness of the proposed method. The paper also presents a detailed analysis to show which combination of pre-trained models of CNN is best suitable for generating dynamic summaries. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

User-trust centric lightweight access control for smart IoT crowd sensing applications in healthcare systems

The Internet of Things (IoT) enables healthcare systems to handle emergencies, where multiple authorities interact to perform tasks. Prevention of unauthorized access and defining access domains for legitimate users are crucial. Attribute-Based Access Control System (ABACS) techniques play a vital role in defining boundaries in a multi-agent environment. However, adopting traditional ABAC in IoT-based resource-constrained networks is not feasible. This research analyzes the effects of attributes as key performance metrics, including execution time, memory overhead, and computational complexities. To address these challenges, this research proposes a Physical-Social Attributes Access Control Policy (PS-ABACS) framework that secures Multiparty Computation (SMC), symmetric encryption, and randomization-based access control methods. PS-ABASC introduces a lightweight two-party set intersection technique to generate an access policy. The analysis shows that the proposed technique is efficient in computing access policy and session key generation, and less number of attributes based on randomness characteristics is appropriate for resource-constrained networks. Moreover, it demonstrates advancements by reducing memory usage up to 0.048 KB for 60 attributes. The framework generates session keys proficiently, encrypts data, and minimizes computational expenses through a randomized attribute vector. In terms of communication overhead, the framework surpasses expectations by supporting up to 100 attributes, resulting in a reduction of transmission costs to 1120 bits. Overall, this framework improves security, reduces resource consumption, and enhances data exchange efficiency in IoT ecosystems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Within the electronic design automation(EDA) domain, artificial intelligence(AI)-driven solutions have emerged as formidable tools, yet they typically augment rather than redefine existing methodologies. These solutions often repurpose deep learning models from other domains, such as vision, text, and graph analytics, applying them to circuit design without tailoring to the unique complexities of electronic circuits. Such an “AI4EDA” approach falls short of achieving a holistic design synthesis and understanding,overlooking the intricate interplay of electrical, logical, and physical facets of circuit data. This study argues for a paradigm shift from AI4EDA towards AI-rooted EDA from the ground up, integrating AI at the core of the design process. Pivotal to this vision is the development of a multimodal circuit representation learning technique, poised to provide a comprehensive understanding by harmonizing and extracting insights from varied data sources, such as functional specifications, register-transfer level(RTL) designs, circuit netlists,and physical layouts. We champion the creation of large circuit models(LCMs) that are inherently multimodal, crafted to decode and express the rich semantics and structures of circuit data, thus fostering more resilient, efficient, and inventive design methodologies. Embracing this AI-rooted philosophy, we foresee a trajectory that transcends the current innovation plateau in EDA, igniting a profound “shift-left” in electronic design methodology. The envisioned advancements herald not just an evolution of existing EDA tools but a revolution, giving rise to novel instruments of design-tools that promise to radically enhance design productivity and inaugurate a new epoch where the optimization of circuit performance, power, and area(PPA) is achieved not incrementally, but through leaps that redefine the benchmarks of electronic systems' capabilities.
