Background: Cognitive-behavioural interventions may be important for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. One cognitive factor that has generated considerable interest as a possible mediator is self-efficacy. Methods: One hundred patients diagnosed with pulpal or periapical pathology that required endodontic therapy were treated. Data were collected at baseline in the waiting room before therapy and then during treatment. Results: Positive correlations were found between dental fear, pain anticipation and dental avoidance (p<0.001). The correlation between dental fear and pain anticipation showed the largest effect sizes. Healthy participants had higher scores in self-efficacy (Mean=32.55;SD=7.15) than those with systemic diseases (n=15;Mean=29.33;SD=4.76, p=0.04). Participants who not taking medication before treatment had lower scores for pain anticipation (Mean=3.63;SD=2.85) than those taking medication. The contribution of pain anticipation to dental avoidance varied at different values of self-efficacy. The indirect effect of dental fear on dental avoidance via dental anxiety was significant in individuals with higher self-efficacy. Conclusions: Self-efficacy had an essential moderation role between pain anticipation and dental avoidance during endodontic treatment.

Stark disparities persist in maternal mortality and perinatal outcomes for Black and other birthing people of color, such as Native Americans, and their newborns compared to White people in the United States. An increasing body of research describes the phenomenon of implicit racial bias among providers and how it may affect communication, treatment decisions, the patient care experience, and health outcomes. This synthesis of literature reviews and distills current research on the presence and influence of implicit racial bias among nurses as it may relate to maternal and pregnancy-related care and outcomes. In this paper, we also summarize what is known about implicit racial bias among other types of healthcare providers and interventions that can mitigate its effects, identify a gap in research, and recommend next steps for nurses and nurse researchers.

Attending a concert may prove difficult for individuals with exceptionalities or disabilities and those who support them. While traditional performance environments may not feel welcoming or amenable for individuals with exceptionalities and their families, arts organizations have recently made efforts to produce concerts that address barriers to accessibility. These adaptive concerts, most frequently labeled as Sensory-Friendly Concerts, attempt to create environments suitable for diverse communities, supporting individuals and groups who are frequently underrepresented as audience members in performance contexts. This article explores adaptive music performances, contributing a model for sensory-friendly adaptive concerts supported by caregivers' perspectives through a post-concert survey. The model proposed includes four areas of adaptation: pre-show work, environment audit, extra-musical aids, and programming adjustments. The authors outline the various modifications with data points from a sample of adaptive concert caregiver attendees (n = 15), aligning the theoretical model with practice to provide practical examples and tangible outputs for researchers, presenters, musicians, educators, and policymakers.

This essay explores the insurgent practices of members of the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program from 1965-1973. VISTA is situated historically in relation to New Left community organizing projects and the War on Poverty. Testimonials of VISTA workers demonstrate that many developed political perspectives critical of the "war" in which they had enlisted. Records of collective mobilization chart how VISTA workers attempted to form a labor union and bring the program under community control. Their largest organization, the National VISTA Alliance, represented a form of social justice unionism ante litteram within and against the U.S. state.

Mitochondria are vital for energy production, metabolic regulation, and cellular signaling. Their dysfunction is strongly implicated in neurological, cardiovascular, and muscular degenerative diseases, where energy deficits and oxidative stress accelerate disease progression. Platelet extracellular vesicles (PEVs), once called "platelet dust", have emerged as promising agents for mitigating mitochondrial dysfunction. Like other extracellular vesicles (EVs), PEVs carry diverse molecular cargo and surface markers implicated in disease processes and therapeutic efficacy. Notably, they may possibly contain intact or partially functional mitochondrial components, making them tentatively attractive for targeting mitochondrial damage. Although direct research on PEVs-mediated mitochondrial rescue remains limited, current evidence suggests that PEVs can modulate diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and potentially enhance mitochondrial health. This review explores the therapeutic potential of PEVs in neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disorders, highlighting their role in restoring mitochondrial health. By examining recent advancements in PEVs research, we aim to shed light on novel strategies for utilizing PEVs as therapeutic agents. Our goal is to underscore the importance of further fundamental and applied research into PEVs-based interventions, as innovative tools for combating a wide range of diseases linked to mitochondrial dysfunction.

Dedicated loader proteins play essential roles in bacterial DNA replication by opening ring-shaped DnaB-family helicases and chaperoning single-stranded (ss)DNA into a central motor chamber as a prelude to DNA unwinding. Although unrelated in sequence, the Escherichia coli DnaC and bacteriophage. P loaders feature a similar overall architecture: a globular domain linked to an extended lasso/grappling hook element, located at their N and C termini, respectively. Both loaders remodel a closed DnaB ring into nearly identical right-handed open conformations. The sole element shared by the loaders is a single alpha helix, which binds to the same site on the helicase. Physical features of the loaders establish that DnaC and. P evolved independently to converge, through molecular mimicry, on a common helicase-opening mechanism.

We introduce and study the space of homeomorphisms of the circle (up to M & ouml;bius transformations), which are in $\ell <^>{2}$ with respect to modular coordinates called diamond shears along the edges of the Farey tessellation. Diamond shears are related combinatorially to shear coordinates and are also closely related to the $\log \Lambda $-lengths of decorated Teichm & uuml;ller space introduced by Penner. We obtain sharp results comparing this new class to the Weil-Petersson class and H & ouml;lder classes of circle homeomorphisms. We also express the Weil-Petersson metric tensor and symplectic form in terms of infinitesimal shears and diamond shears.

The reasons supporting the 'Racial Contract' are reasons supporting the 'metanarrative,' which explains the Racial Contract. They are not reasons supportive of actions pertinent to undoing the Racial Contract, but reasons supportive of behavior pertinent to objectively confirming the 'metanarrative' of the 'Racial Contract' and rightfully establishing its place in political philosophy. This paper shall attempt to address these matters and their consequences.

In the era of precision medicine, predicting drug responses accurately is crucial for tailoring patient-specific treatments. Despite advances in machine learning (ML) models for drug response prediction (DRP), challenges remain in predicting effective therapies with high accuracy. This study introduces RF-Lung-DR, a ML model that integrates biological markers and drug SMILES features to predict drug responses in lung cancer cell lines, thus enhancing drug screening processes. Using drug sensitivity data from the Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC), the model was developed across seven ML algorithms, with Random Forest (RF) proving to be the most effective for optimizing DRP accuracy. RF-Lung-DR achieved prediction accuracies of 80% in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and 78% in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The investigation also identified key biological biomarkers and drug SMILES features that significantly influence predictive performance. Focusing on lung cancer-a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide-RF-Lung-DR's methodology supports the broader application of personalized medicine and underscores the potential for developing individualized patient care strategies in oncology.
