The sensitized photooxidation of ortho-prenyl phenol is described with evidence that solvent aproticity favors the formation of a dihydrobenzofuran [2-(prop-1-en-2-yl)-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran], a moiety commonly found in natural products. Benzene solvent increased the total quenching rate constant (k(T)) of singlet oxygen with prenyl phenol by similar to 10-fold compared to methanol. A mechanism is proposed with preferential addition of singlet oxygen to prenyl site due to hydrogen bonding with the phenol OH group, which causes a divergence away from the singlet oxygen 'ene' reaction toward the dihydrobenzofuran as the major product. The reaction is a mixed photooxidized system since an epoxide arises by a type I sensitized photooxidation.

Genetics-based approaches can enable drug target identification in human cells. In this issue of Cell Chem-ical Biology, Nguyen et al.1 use inducible degradation of a mismatch repair protein to tune the mutation rate in HCT116 cells, thereby increasing sensitivity and selectivity in identifying resistance-conferring mutations for several cytotoxic small molecules.

The amygdala, a key limbic structure, is critical to emotional, social, and appetitive behaviors that develop throughout adolescence. Composed of a heterogeneous group of nuclei, questions remain about potential differences in the maturation of its subregions during development. In 3953 9- and 10-year-olds from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive DevelopmentSM Study, the CIT168 Atlas was used to segment nine amygdala subregions. Linear mixed-effects models were used to examine the effects of age, sex, pubertal stage, and body mass index z-score (BMIz) on subregion volumes and their relative apportionment within the amygdala. Distinct associations were observed between age, sex, and BMIz with whole amygdala volume, subregion volumes, and subregion apportionment. Pubertal stage was not related to amygdala subregion volumes. Age was associated with near-global expansion of amygdala subregions during this developmental period. Female sex was linked to smaller volumes in most amygdala subregions, with larger relative apportionment in the dorsal subregions and smaller apportionment in the basolateral ventral paralaminar subregion. Higher BMIz was associated with smaller volumes in large basolateral subregions, with increased relative apportionment in smaller subregions. These findings provide a foundational context for understanding how developmental variables influence amygdala structure, with implications for understanding future risk for brain disorders.

The study of geographic mobility through geospatial analysis and journey-to-crime approaches has made progress in environmental criminology, finding most offenders commit crime close to their residence. However, extant literature on serial homicide and geographic mobility is scarce, specifically lacking a comprehensive appraisal of relative research. To gain a better understanding of the geographic mobility patterns of serial homicide offenders, we must determine the current status of literature in this area, to figure out where to go in terms of future research. Therefore, the following study is a scoping review of existing literature on geographic mobility and serial homicide and four associated typologies (Holmes & DeBurger's Geographic typology, Hickey's Mobility typology, Canter's Circle typology, and Rossmo's Hunting Style typology) to achieve the following: (1) Comprehensively evaluate literature regarding serial homicide geographic mobility and four associated typologies to establish the current status of research;(2) uncover potential literature gaps;and (3) provide future research recommendations. Literature sources (N = 43) on serial homicide and geographic mobility (1985-2018) were examined. While findings recognize the relevance of mobility functions in serial homicide investigations, gaps in literature were evident regarding serial homicide geographic mobility and the four associated typologies. Findings also reveal that systematic research in this field is limited. Policy implications and future research recommendations are discussed.

Dental implants' usage life and strength are critical factors for implant patients. This paper examines the optimization of dental implant threads by modifying the C-Tech implant system model to ascertain thread design's impact on micromotion through finite element analysis (FEA). The fundamental measurements of the redesigned C-Tech implant system are established by dynamic (FEA). Six implant parameters are chosen as the control factors to be advanced. Experimental simulations are built using a uniform design (UD) method. The dynamic FEA tool ANSYS/LS-DYNA is utilized for each experimental simulation to identify the maximal micromotion in the modified C-Tech implant system. The optimum design model is acquired by minimizing the micromotion by applying the Kriging interpolation (KGI) and genetic algorithm (GA). The improved design has a micromotion of 12.19 & mu;m, as opposed to the original design's micromotion of 38.11 & mu;m. The improvement rate is 68.02%. Finally, the following innovative design is to add a secondary thread to the implant body. After conducting simulations, the micromotion is reduced to 4.72 & mu;m. Further, it shows a 61.28% improvement compared with the optimization design version and an 87.62% improvement compared with the primary implants.

This article examines the reintegration experiences of Indigenous migrant youth returned to Guatemala from the United States and Mexico, thereby filling a gap in extant literature. This qualitative study employed a critical ethnographic approach with reflexive thematic analysis of fieldwork and interviews with social service providers working with this population through the lens of Critical Latinx Indigeneities. Four major themes emerged: identity negotiation (sub-themes being Indigenous identities and returned migrant identities), trauma and its consequences, institutional and internalized oppression, and decolonization. Implications for social work emphasize the importance of Indigenous and decolonizing approaches to social work.

Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis during sleep plays a key role for understanding autonomic nervous system function and assessing cardiovascular health. The UNICA Sleep HRV analysis (UNICA-HRV) tool is a novel, open-source MATLAB tool designed to fill the gap in current HRV analysis tools. In particular, the integration of ECG and HRV data with hypnogram information, which illustrates the progression through the different sleep stages, eases the computation of HRV metrics in polysomnographic recordings. This integration is crucial for accurate phase-specific analysis, as autonomic regulation changes markedly across different sleep stages. The tool supports single- and multiple-subject analyses and is tailored to enhance usability and accessibility for researchers and clinicians without requiring extensive technical expertise. It implements and supports a variety of data inputs and configurations, allowing for flexible, detailed HRV analyses across sleep stages, employing classical and advanced metrics, such as time-domain, frequency-domain, non-linear, complexity, and Poincar & eacute;plot indexes. Validation of the tool against established tools like Kubios and PhysioZoo indicates its robustness and precision in generating reliable HRV metrics, that are essential not only for sleep research, but also for clinical diagnostics. The introduction of UNICA-HRV represents a significant simplification for sleep studies, and its open-source nature (licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License) allows to easily extend the functionality to other needs.

Purpose - This study aimed to examine the similarities and differences between the ability to analyze the environment and exploit new knowledge (absorptive capacity) and the skills to generate value from innovation (appropriation). These fields have similar origins and are sometimes confused by practitioners and academics. Design/methodology/approach - A review was conducted based on a full-text analysis of 681 and 431 papers on appropriation and absorptive capacity, respectively, from Scopus, Science Direct and Lens, using methodologies such as text mining, backward citation analysis, modularity clustering and latent Dirichlet allocation analysis. Findings - In business disciplines, the fields are considered different;however, in other disciplines, it was found that some authors defined them quite similarly. The citation analysis results showed that appropriation was more relevant to absorptive capacity, or vice versa. From the dimension perspective, it was found that although appropriation was considered a relevant element for absorptive capacity, the last models did not include it. Finally, it was found that studies on both topics identified the importance of appropriation and absorptive capacity for innovation performance, knowledge management and technology transfer. Originality/value - This is one of the first studies to examine in-depth the relationship between appropriation and absorptive capacity, bridging a gap in both fields.

ObjectiveLack of biomimicry in geometry and flow conditions of emissions systems for analytical testing and biological exposure has led to fundamental limitations, including a poor understanding of dose delivered to specific airway locations. This work characterizes mass distribution of a JUUL (R) brand e-cigarette in a Biomimetic Aerosol Exposure System (BAES).Materials and MethodsA combination of mass balance, direct measurements, and inferences based on direct measurements were used to characterize regional and local dose as a function of system flow path configuration and emissions topography *** produced by the emissions topography profile with only puffing were significantly different from profiles with clean air inhalation following puffs. Mass characterization results support that dose can be manipulated using flow path geometry. Local and regional deposition was mapped throughout the *** and ConclusionsWe estimate the fraction of yield to the mouth deposited at several locations throughout the system for a variety of puffing and respiration topographies and show that emissions topography profile and system flow path geometry affect dose. This work provides proof-of-concept for assessing mass distribution as a function of aerosol generator (e-cigarette product), user airway geometry, and inhalation and puffing topography.
