Thread level parallelism and multi-core processors are current alternatives to increase performance of general-purpose applications. In the same way, networks-on-ohip (NoCs) are the main alternatives for supporting packet throughput for the next generations of many-core processors. NPoC (network processor on chip) is a proposal to increase the performance of programmable NoC routers and multi-cluster NoC architectures using interleaved multithreading (IMT) technique. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is to present the design impact of interleaved multithreading for network processors on chip focusing on area and performance feasibility. Results show that NPoC-based router has an acceptable and similar area relative to a conventional NoC, and higher performance up to 7.1% than the same NPoC version without IMT.

Sensor networks are being used in several emerging applications not even imagined some years ago due to advances in sensing, computing, and communication techniques. However, these advances also pose various challenges that must be faced. One important challenge is related to the autonomous capability needed to setup and adapt the networks, which decentralizes the control of the network, saving communication and energy resources. Middleware technology helps in addressing this kind of problem, but there is still a need for additional solutions, particularly considering dynamic changes in users' requirements and operation conditions. This paper presents an agent-based framework acting as an integral part of a middleware to support autonomous setup and adaptation of sensor networks. It adds interoperability among heterogeneous nodes in the network, by means of autonomous behavior and reasoning. These features also address the needs for system setup and adaptations in the network, reducing the communication overhead and decentralizing the decision making mechanism. Additionally, preliminary results are also presented.

Distance learning is a learning style that can overcome the limitation of time and space. Because of the distance, teachers can not handle the student's learning situation, and they do not know whether the student is attentive, drowsy or absent. If teachers can know the student's affective state, they can overcome the difficult. The research applies the image recognition technologies to capture the face images of students when they are learning and analyzes their face features to evaluate the student's affective state by Fuzzy Integral. Finally, teachers can monitor the student's behavior by the detection results on the system interface.

Learner attention affects learning efficiency. However, in many classes, teachers cannot assess the degree of attention of every student. When a teacher is capable of addressing inattentive students immediately, he can avoid situations in which students are inattentive. Many studies have analyzed student attentiveness by the applying of image detection technologies. If this mechanism can be applied to in-class learning, it will help teachers keep students attentive, and reduce teacher load during class. This study mainly applies fuzzy logic analysis of student facial images when participating in class. Applying fuzzy logic can prevent erroneous judgments associated with a single term, and help teachers deal with student attentiveness.

The Generation Challenge programme (GCP) is a global crop research consortium directed toward crop improvement through the application of comparative biology and genetic resources characterization to plant breeding. A key consortium research activity is the development of a GCP crop bioinformatics platform to support GCP research. This platform includes the following: (i) shared, public platform-independent domain models, ontology, and data formats to enable interoperability of data and analysis flows within the platform;(ii) web service and registry technologies to identify, share, and integrate information across diverse, globally dispersed data sources, as well as to access high-performance computational (HPC) facilities for computationally intensive, high-throughput analyses of project data;(iii) platform-specific middleware reference implementations of the domain model integrating a suite of public (largely open-access/-source) databases and software tools into a workbench to facilitate biodiversity analysis, comparative analysis of crop genomic data, and plant breeding decision making.
