A Novel Construction of Two-Dimensional Z-Complementary Array Code Sets Based on Extended Boolean Functions

Two-dimensional (2-D) array sets with good 2-D correlation properties have received considerable attention in wireless communication systems. This paper focuses on 2-D Z-complementary array code sets (ZCACSs), which have ideal 2-D correlation properties within a rectangular zone around the origin. By developing a theory linking 2-D extended Boolean functions with 2-D arrays, we establish an efficient construction of 2-D ZCACSs. In contrast to previous work, the proposed construction is capable of producing 2-D ZCACSs with new flexible parameters. Constructions of three-dimensional (3-D) and higher-dimensional ZCACSs are further investigated. We remark that 2-D and higher-dimensional complete complementary codes (CCCs) can also be generated from the proposed constructions. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents a frame interpolation algorithm using the motion information of some object within the estimated blocks. The proposed algorithm uses two initial frames that are generated based on the backward and forward frames using the motion vectors. In this process, the occlusion regions are occurred in two initial frames since the optimal block is only selected by threshold. Furthermore, the regions are irregularly appeared because of that the selected block is interpolated on half position between the estimated motion vectors. Two initial frames are merged to interpolate the occlusion regions. Also, the occlusion areas, which are still existence in the merged frame, are interpolated by using the neighboring pixel information and the available data in the occlusion block. In this paper, the experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm has better PSNR and the visual quality than the conventional algorithms. © 2010 IEEE.

We propose an adaptive motion compensated frame interpolation scheme which is capable of developing a frame rate from a lower number into a higher number and a decoded video quality at the decoder. The proposed algorithm utilizes the preliminary frames of the forward and backward directions using bilateral prediction. In the processing of the preliminary frames, an additional interpolation is performed to fill the occlusion areas. If the calculated values between the reference and current frames are larger than the predetermined threshold, the block is chosen as the occlusion area. In addition, we performed a re-search in order to acquire the best blocks, taking into account the number of available adjacent blocks for the occlusion areas. The experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm has better PSNR and visual quality than those of the conventional methods. © 2010 IEEE.

While the state-of-the-art speech enhancement methods are focused on the modification of the noisy spectral amplitude, our recent findings demonstrate positive impact of incorporating the speech phase spectrum in speech enhancement. In this show and tell proposal, we demonstrate the recent progress towards utilizing the phase information in closed-loop iterative manner leading to the joint enhancement of amplitude and phase spectra. In this show and tell, we provide a demo where a recorded speech corrupted with noise is enhanced by an iterative refinement of amplitude and phase. The improvement in speech enhancement in various signal-to-noise ratios is justified by improved perceived speech quality as well as not degrading the speech intelligibility performance. Looking at the speaker's face seems useful to better hear a speech signal and extract it from competing sources before identification. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm plugging audiovisual coherence of speech signals, estimated by statistical tools, on audio blind source separation (BSS) algorithms in the difficult case of convolutive mixtures. The algorithm mainly works in the frequency (transform) domain, where the convolutive mixture becomes an additive mixture for each frequency channel. Frequency by frequency separation is made by an audio BSS algorithm, and the audiovisual information is used to solve the standard source permutation and scale factor problems at the output of the separation stage, for each frequency. The proposed method is shown to be efficient in the case of 2 × 2 convolutive mixtures. © 2005 IEEE.

many speech processing applications, the spectral amplitude is the dominant information while the use of phase spectrum is not so widely spread. In this paper, we present an overview on why speech phase spectrum has been neglected in the conventional techniques used in different applications including: Speech separation/enhancement, automatic speech and speaker recognition and speech synthesis. We proceed with giving highlights on the recent progress carried out in demonstrating the importance of phase in different applications and how it impacts on the overall performance. Computing the minimum initial marking (MIM) in labeled Petri nets (PN) while considering a sequence of labels constitutes a difficult problem. The existing solutions of such a problem suffer from diverse limitations. In this paper, we proposed a new approach to automatically compute the MIM in labeled PNs in a timely fashion. We adopted a simulated annealing based algorithm to model the MIM problem. The choice of such an algorithm is justified by the nature of the MIM process which belongs to the NP-hard class. We experimentally showed the effectiveness of our approach and empirically studied the initial marking quality in particular. © 2019 The authors and IOS Press. All rights reserved.

In this paper, an efficient algorithm for the fast full search is proposed to reduce the computational cost of block matching algorithm for motion estimation in video coding. Based on the characteristic of the pixel histogram for the current macroblock, the proposed fast matching method adaptively sorts the matching order pixel-by-pixel for each macroblock. Also, partial distortion elimination (PDE) method was used to terminate the improper candidate macroblocks early after the process of multilevel successive elimination algorithm (MSEA). The varieties of test sequences were simulated and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves less computational load.

In this contribution, we provide a thorough review of the application of SAGE (space-alternating generalised expectation-maximisation) algorithm to the problem of parameter estimation for MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) systems. It is well established that the SAGE algorithms yields a superior performance compared to other estimation algorithms in terms of accuracy and robustness. For our investigation, we consider both the time and frequency domain evaluations of the algorithm since each domain requires a different signal model.
