Compressed sensing (CS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables the reconstruction of MRI images with fewer samples in k-space. One requirement is that the acquired image has a sparse representation in a known transform domain. MR angiograms are already sparse in the image domain. They can be further sparsified through finite-differences. Therefore, it is a natural application for CS-MRI. However, low-contrast vessels are likely to disappear at high under-sampling ratios, since the commonly used l_1 reconstruction tends to underestimate the magnitude of the transformed sparse coefficients. These vessels, however, are likely to be clinically important for medical diagnosis. To avoid the fading of low-contrast vessels, we propose a user-guided CS MRI that is able to mitigate the reduction of vessel contrast within a region of interest (ROI). Simulations show that these low-contrast vessels can be well maintained via our method which results in higher local quality compared to conventional CS.

This paper proposes a method for robustly matching active appearance models (AAMs) on images with gross disturbances (outliers). The method consists of two steps. First, an initial residual is calculated by comparing model and image appearance, and modes of the residual are analyzed. Second, all possible mode combinations are tested by evaluating an objective function. The objective function allows the selection of an outlier-free mode combination. Experiments demonstrate the ability of the robust matching method to successfully cope with outliers - compared to standard AAM matching, no degeneration of the model during matching occurs.

The exponential growth of text data on the World Wide Web as well as on databases off line created a critical need for efficient text summarizers that significantly reduce its size while maintaining its integrity. In this paper, we present a new multigraph-based text summarizer method. This method is unique in that it produces a multi-edge-irregular-graph that represents words occurrence in the sentences of the target text. This graph is then converted into a symmetric matrix from which we can produce the ranking of sentences and hence obtain the summarized text using a threshold. To test our method performance, we compared our results with those from the most popular publicly available text summarization software using a corpus of 1000 samples from 6 different applications: health, literature, politics, religion, science and sports. The simulation results show that the proposed method produced better or comparable summaries in all cases. The proposed method is fast and can be implement for real time summarization.

Medical imageprocessing plays an important role in the automatic detection of certain eye diseases, disease documentation, treatment monitoring and educational purposes. The continuous improvement of the hardware of mobile phones gives us the ability to capture images like this. Interesting question can be: are these images suitable for automatic imageprocessing, or more specifically, how much information can be obtained from this kind of images? In this paper, we would like to investigate whether a mobile device suitable to use as a medical diagnostic tool. We present a comparison between images made by a mobile device and a clinical eye examination one. We perform optic disc and optic cup detection from which we calculate cup to disc ratio. Our results show that images acquired by mobile phone are suitable for automatic imageprocessing. Beyond these, a database of images were set up to allow researchers to test their algorithms and methods for imageprocessing.

A visualization scheme as a tool to find the solution of any 3D-linear programming problem is introduced. The presented approach is highly suitable to draw and visualize interactively the feasible region of a given 3D-linear programming problem. It can be used for a better understanding of the solution process when different methods devoted to solve the underlying problem are applied, e.g., the simplex method. The proposed technique comprises sensitive analysis during the solution process and interactive visualization of the feasible region. The analysis leading to the introduced schema also shows that the design of an appropriate and simple vertex representation is crucial to manage any order of degeneracy. To deal with this paradigm and to some extent to formalize it, the concept of adjacency invariance is introduced. Several experiments have been conducted to test and assess the performance of the introduced concepts and techniques.

This paper introduces a new method for QR code localization using conventional and deep rectifier neural networks.
