This paper proposes a method to predict the effect of Bevacizumab therapy on Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) tumors. The prediction is critical for effective treatment planning. The proposed method is developed and evaluated using Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and post-contrast T1-weighted Magnetic Resonance images (pc-T1-MRI) of 14 patients with GBM tumors gathered before and after the treatment. First, the proposed method calculates diffusion anisotropy indices (DAI) of all voxels in the brain. These diffusion anisotropy indices are Fractional Anisotropy (FA), Mean Diffusivity (MD), Relative Anisotropy (RA), and Volume Ratio (VR). Then, it registers post-treatment pc-T1-MRI and pre-treatment DAI maps to pre-treatment pc-T1-MRI. Next, it uses a thresholding method to segment the tumor from pc-T1-MRI studies. Comparing Gd-enhanced voxels of the pre- and post-treatment pc-T1-MRI, the DAIs of the tumor are labeled based on their response to the treatment. The voxels of 7 patients are randomly selected to train 4 classifiers (ANN, SVM, KNN, and ANFIS) and then all voxels of the other 7 patients are used to test them. For each classifier, four performance measures (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and accuracy) are calculated. Experimental results show that the ANFIS is more accurate than the other classifiers in predicting the treatment response.

In this paper, we present the distributed selective partial update affine projection algorithm (dSPU-APA), the distributed dynamic selection affine projection algorithm (dDS-APA), and dSPU-DS-APA to solve distributed estimation problem over adaptive diffusion networks. In dSPU-APA, the filter coefficients are partially updated during the adaptation. For dDS-APA, the input regressors are dynamically selected at each iteration. Diffusion cooperation schemes have been shown to provide good performance in these algorithms. The good performance of these algorithms is demonstrated by presenting several simulation results.

In this paper, a novel unified channel model framework is proposed for cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless channels. The proposed model framework is generic and adaptable to multiple cooperative MIMO scenarios by simply adjusting key model parameters. Based on the proposed model framework and using a typical cooperative MIMO communication environment as an example, we derive a novel geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) applicable to multiple wireless propagation scenarios. The proposed GBSM is the first cooperative MIMO channel model that has the ability to investigate the impact of the local scattering density (LSD) on channel characteristics. From the derived GBSM, the corresponding multi-link spatial correlation functions are derived and numerically analyzed in detail.

This paper proposes to integrate probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA) and Laplacian Eigenmaps (LE) for broadcast news story segmentation. PLSA can address synonymy and polysemy problems by exploring underlying semantic relations beneath the actual occurrences of words. LE can provide a data transformation with the advantage of preserving the original temporal structure of sentence cohesive *** adopt PLSA statistics to replace term frequency as the representation of sentences and measure their connective strength. LE analysis is then performed on the connective strength matrix so that the sentence relations becomes geometrically evident for discriminating different stories. A dynamic programming (DP) algorithm is used for story boundary identification. Experiments show that the proposed method achieves superior story segmentation performances with the highest F1-measure of 0:7536 on TDT2 Mandarin BN corpus.

Building a dense and accurate environment model out of range image data faces problems like sensor noise, extensive memory consumption or computation time. We present an approach which reconstructs 3D environments using a probabilistic occupancy grid in real-time. Operating on depth image pyramids speeds up computation time, whereas a weighted interpolation scheme between neighboring pyramid layers boosts accuracy. In our experiments we compare our method with a state-of-the-art mapping procedure. Our results demonstrate that we achieve better results. Finally, we present its viability by mapping a large indoor environment.

By analyzing the numerical characteristics of impulse noise images, in order to resolve spreading-noise problem resulted from dilating and eroding images base on mathematical morphology, an algorithm of dilating and eroding color impulse noise images based on mathematical morphology is proposed. The result of the experiment demonstrates that the new algorithm has same effect as traditional algorithm of dilating and eroding images, but also suppresses impulse noise.

Measuring the similarity between articulated shapes is a fundamental yet challenging problem. This paper proposes a novel shape descriptor based on Width Distributions (WD), which is robust to articulations. We show that the width distributions are articulation insensitive yet descriptive to distinguish different shapes with varied part structures. With measurements on distributions only, the proposed method does not require any alignment between two objects and thus is more robust than correspondence-based measurements. First, the medial axes of the objects are extracted and fitted to B-Splines to remove outliners. The width of the object shape perpendicular to the medial axis can be calculated for each position on the medial axis. The histograms of those widths are compared using chi-square method for similarity. Experiments on standard 2D shape database show that the proposed method performed better than standard shape distribution algorithms and similarly to other articulation-robust shape descriptors, such as inner-distance. The speed of the proposed method is much faster than the more sophisticated inner-distance, as the proposed method is much simpler in nature and requires limited imageprocessing and pattern classification. These results suggested it could be an efficient and effective method to describe and to match articulated shapes.
