Technical note: Error analysis of material-decomposition-based effective atomic number quantification method

Background: The effective atomic number (Zeff) is widely applied to the identification of unknown materials. One method to determine the Zeff is material-decomposition-based spectral X-ray imaging. The method relies on certain approximations of the X-ray interaction cross-sections such as empirical model coefficients. The impact of such approximations on the accuracy of Zeff quantification has not been fully investigated. Purpose: To perform an error analysis of the material-decomposition-based Zeff quantification method and propose a coefficient calibration-in-groups method to improve the modeling accuracy and reduce the Zeff quantification error. Methods: The model of the material-decomposition-based Zeff quantification method relies on the dependence of the interaction cross-sections (σPE) on the atomic number Z and corresponding coefficient, that is, (Formula presented.). In this work, all the data is from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) website. First, the coefficient m is calibrated through a logarithmic fitting method to quickly determine the m values for any certain energy and Zeff ranges. Then materials including elements and common compounds with Zeff ranging from 6–20 are selected as the objects whose effective atomic numbers are to be quantified. Different combinations of basis materials are applied to decompose the object materials and their quantification errors are analyzed. With the help of error analysis, the object materials are divided into high-error and low-error groups based on the decomposition coefficient ratio (Formula presented.), which is found to have a strong correlation with error, and their coefficients are calibrated in groups. Finally, the average errors of three m selection strategies: (1) using an empirical m value of 3.94, which is also considered a standard method;(2) using a single m value, which is calibrated through the logarithmic fitting method;(3) using different m values calibrated in groups, are

The pansharpening of high-resolution panchromatic (Pan) image and low-resolution multispectral (MS) images represents an important task in the remote sensing field. It allows the joint exploitation of the information derived from both types of images. However, this may cause a distortion of spectral information or a lack in details and structures. The multiresolution analysis using wavelet transforms has proved its efficiency in the pansharpening domain, due to the representation of the image content over different resolution levels. In image fusion applications, we always need more detail information to be incorporated in the pansharpening procedure in order to produce enhanced results. However, the limitation of the wavelet transform to three types of oriented detail coefficients prevents this need from being met. To overcome this limitation, we propose to use the redundant contourlet transform (RCT) which extracts a richer multiscale directional information from the image. For this purpose, two RCT-based pansharpening methods are introduced and suitable data fusion procedures are described. We conducted several experiments on two different datasets acquired respectively by ALSAT-2A and IKONOS satellites. The visual results as well as quantitative results from evaluation metrics demonstrate the performance of the proposed methods. © 2023 IEEE.

The utilization and advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets have noticeably increased in recent times. Various sectors, including intelligent homes, healthcare, sports analysis, and different industries, use IoT devices. Traffic is a crucial aspect of IoT devices, and it differs from conventional device traffic in several ways. This investigation employed 41 Internet of Things (IoT) devices. A machine learning model was developed that can classify IoT devices into multiple categories based on 13 different network traffic features. The raw data that was gathered was preprocessed using techniques like standardization and scaling techniques of the dataset. Algorithms for feature selecting can be utilized to extract characteristics from textual data. Following stratification, The dataset contains 106,234 sets of features that were utilized to enhance the predictive model. This research employed various evaluation metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of the logistic-boosted algorithms. In this research, collaborative machine learning methods were utilized as a starting point to develop an intrusion detection system (IDS) that can identify abnormal network traffic. The principal aim of this investigation is to identify attacks and abnormalities within a Smart Home IoT setting. We have introduced a new technique for constructing Logit-Boosted algorithm, namely Logi-CatBoost Classifier. Once the logitboosted algorithm was employed to classify the dataset, Logi-CBC performed the best, with an accuracy of 88.70%. We suggested Logi-CBC algorithm achieved the top precision among previously used Logit-Boosted algorithms in past studies on the same dataset. © 2023 SPIE.

Intraoperative Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) facilitates intraoperative navigation for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS). However, high-attenuation metal implants used in MISS often cause metal artifacts in the reconstructed CBCT images. Current algorithms do not consider the cross-view information in the projection-domain for metal artifact reduction (MAR). Inaccurate projection-domain inpainting results in CBCT MAR lead to tissue blurring and secondary artifacts, significantly compromising the accuracy of CBCT-guided MISS and increasing surgical risks. To address the above challenge, in this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised cross-view prior inpainting network for CBCT Metal Artifact Reduction named NEAT-Net. Firstly, a cross-view prior multi-scale inpainting module is constructed to learn the inter-view complementary information. Secondly, a hybrid feature attention module is proposed to adaptively fuse cross-view features. In addition, an unsupervised training approach is proposed to directly learn from metal-affected data. Extensive experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of our algorithm on a real clinical dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

One of the problems with Smart Transportation is the problem of cost and travel time. This problem is known as the Variable Routing Problem (VRP). In some real cases, in addition to considering route selection, there are limitations on the capacity and time period for the vehicle to serve each customer known as Time Windows, so VRP has developed into Variable Routing Problem with Time Windows (VRPTW). One way to solve VRPTW is to use metaheuristic methods. However, the metaheuristic method has a weakness, which are it can get stuck in local optimums and fail to find better global solutions. To overcome this, a combination with other methods or known as hybrid is needed. The formulation of this research problem is how to develop a Smart transportation model using a metaheuristic hybrid algorithm. The purpose of this study is to develop a Smart transportation model using a metaheuristic hybrid algorithm. The method used is to combine two metaheuristic algorithms, which are the Dragonfly Algorithm (DA) and the Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS). The result of this research is a new algorithm model which is a hybrid between DA and VNS. Through a combination of global exploration using DA and local exploitation using VNS, this algorithm is expected to be able to find a better solution and faster convergence in solving VRPTW problems © 2024 IEEE.

Appropriate maintenance of tracks is vital for the safe operation of railways. Properly managing track facilities is necessary to prevent buckling of rails. Changes in society are creating a shortage of workers, a decrease in skilled engineers, a decrease in passenger income, and an increase in the need to develop low-cost inspection methods which do not require experience. Therefore, we have developed a method using only inexpensive camcorders, which can extract information from images to detect joint gaps, wooden sleeper deterioration and ballast shape, and estimate the kilometer point of these images to locate the installations in question. Sequence-to-sequence models provide a feasible new approach for generative text summarization, but these models are not able to accurately reproduce factual details and subject information. To address the problem of unconstrained and uncontrollable content generation of generative text summarization models, this paper proposes a generative summarization method KGIT that uses Transformer as a skeleton and incorporates both BERT pre-training model and keyword information. The model uses a comprehensive keyword extraction algorithm, uses two results extracted by LSTM and TextRank as vocabularies respectively, and uses pointers keywords are selected and the extracted keywords are used as the guiding information to generate the summary based on the guiding information. KGIT model can associate the source text and keywords to avoid generating a summary of irrelevant topics. The ROUGE value is used as the evaluation criterion for text summaries, and the summaries generated by the KGIT model can contain more key information and are more accurate and readable when compared with the mainstream summary generation models on the NLPCC2017 Chinese news summary dataset. © 2022 SPIE.

As one of the extremely important components on the transmission tower, the insulator has two functions of electrical insulation and wire fixing, which directly affects the operation of the power system. Defects in insulators can impair the service life of transmission lines. UAV aerial photography of electric power towers has problems such as small number of defective insulator samples, small area, large aspect ratio of insulator strings, and variable inclination angle, coupled with the influence of environmental factors such as light, interference, distance, etc., which lead to low detection accuracy of insulator defects. Aiming at the above problems, an improved YOLOv5 insulator defect detection algorithm is proposed. First, screen the aerial images and use data augmentation to obtain a sufficient number of defective insulator images to enrich the dataset and avoid model overfitting. Secondly, the convolutional attention module CBAM is introduced to improve the expression ability of defect insulator features and strengthen the network's ability to identify targets. Finally, the Leaky ReLU activation function of the hidden layer of the original YOLOv5 algorithm is replaced by the Mish function to improve the generalization ability of the network. The experimental results show that compared with the original YOLOv5 algorithm, the average precision mAP (IOU=0.5) of the improved algorithm is increased by 7.8%, which effectively improves the problems of false detection and missed detection in the original algorithm. Compared with other mainstream object detection algorithms, the algorithm proposed in this paper has better detection effect on insulator defects. © 2022 SPIE.

A B S T R A C TTo solve the visual semantic understanding bias and multimodal semantic bias in multimodal named entity recognition, the Confidence Learning Guides Label Fusion for Multimodal Named Entity Recognition (CLGLF) method is proposed. This method invokes the BLIP-2 pre-trained model to generate image captions, concatenates them with the input texts, and performs joint coding to achieve multimodal feature fusion. The candidate labels and text labels are obtained after decoding the multimodal representations and text representations. Based on using the KL divergence loss function to align the two groups of labels, the confidence score is calculated to evaluate the quality of the multimodal representation, and a confidence threshold is set to help screen out the biased candidate labels, the text labels in the corresponding positions are used to replace the biased candidate labels, to achieve the label fusion, and finally complete the multimodal named entity recognition. In order to verify the proposed method, experiments are carried out on the Twitter-2015 and Twitter-2017 multimodal datasets, and the experimental results are compared with 7 mainstream methods, such as MSB and UMT.
