Dental features can be considered as the best candidate feature for post-mortem identification. If ante-mortem data is unavailable, then forensic experts are needed for reducing the search space by creating post-mortem dental profiling. Age is one of important factors in dental profiling. Manual inspection of dental radiographs suffers from two drawbaks, i.e., intraobserver error and interobserver error. This paper proposed a semi-automatic system for age estimation. There are two phases in developing the proposed system, i.e., the modeling phase and the estimation phase. The modeling phase is the stage for deriving an estimation formula based on known data. In this paper, we use data taken from Javanese people. The estimation phase include the process of defining a Region of Interest (ROI), automatic length computation, and age estimation based on the derived modeling formula. Our experiments showed a promising result, i.e., an average absolute error of 5.2 years, compared to application of the Kvaal method to panoramic radiographs from Turkish individuals that yields a difference of more than 12 years.

This paper presents a semiautomatic method for the identification of immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in digitized samples. The user trains the system by selecting on a sample image some typical positive stained regions that will be used as a reference for the construction of a distance metric. In this learning process, the global optimum is obtained by induction employing higher polynomial terms of the Mahalanobis distance, extracting nonlinear features of the IHC pattern distributions. The results of the proposed method showed a high correlation to a pathologist's manual analysis, which was used as a golden standard, presenting a more robust discrimination between stained and non-stained areas with little bias.

Accelerometers integrated in modern smartphones pave the way to intuitively use gestures for collaboratively controlling interactive applications. Using and holding smartphones has become natural and ensures user acceptance as well as intuitive handling. We focus on using accelerators in several smartphones at the same time to interactively control a medical imaging solution. To this end, we introduce a framework to collect, modify, and distribute acceleration sensor data from multiple smartphones and integrate it with a medical imaging system which results in an environment suitable for e.g. doctors reviewing and explaining diagnostic findings. We performed some experiments to evaluate the usability of this approach and present an ongoing research in adapting the smartphone interface to physical simulation applications.

A visualization scheme as a tool to find the solution of any 3D-linear programming problem is introduced. The presented approach is highly suitable to draw and visualize interactively the feasible region of a given 3D-linear programming problem. It can be used for a better understanding of the solution process when different methods devoted to solve the underlying problem are applied, e.g., the simplex method. The proposed technique comprises sensitive analysis during the solution process and interactive visualization of the feasible region. The analysis leading to the introduced schema also shows that the design of an appropriate and simple vertex representation is crucial to manage any order of degeneracy. To deal with this paradigm and to some extent to formalize it, the concept of adjacency invariance is introduced. Several experiments have been conducted to test and assess the performance of the introduced concepts and techniques.
