Compressive sensing (CS) is a new technique for data sampling and compression simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a novel distributed video coding algorithm with dynamic measurement rate allocation based on compressive sensing principles, where almost all computation burdens can be shifted to the decoder, resulting in a very low-complexity encoder. So the proposed algorithm can be useful in those video applications that require very low complex encoders. At the decoder, the compressed video can be efficiently reconstructed with adaptive dictionary learning. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the distributed compressive video sensing with non-adaptive learning local dictionary and global dictionary.

In medical image analysis, the long-range spatial features are often not accurately obtained by the traditional convolutional neural networks. Hence, we propose a TransClaw U-Net network structure. The transformer part is added after three convolution operations to fuse shallow features extracted by convolution operations for maximally encoding the long-range spatial features between patches. The 'Claw' in TransClaw U-net means that we add the bottom upsampling part to retain the deepest feature information for detail segmentation. In addition, the modified three-channel global attention mechanism to blend the outputs of three channels (the encoding part, the bottom upsampling part and the decoding part) to effectively extract image contours. The experimental results on Synapse Multi-organ Segmentation Dataset show that TransClaw U-Net performs better than other networks. The results of ablation experiments prove the effectiveness of the three improved components of the network and influence of input image size and skip-connection numbers on network performance. The source code will be publicly available once the paper is accepted. © 2022 IEEE.

When people take photos through a transparent surface, it is ubiquitous that the images are superimposed with two source images, the transmitted layer and the reflected layer. In this paper, we utilize the sparsity priors over image color distribution and image gradients, and we realize the separation of such images by exploiting the diversity (relative motions of source images) in different snapshots. Our approach can estimate the motion even when layer image is quite faint, extract layer gradients when layer intensity is unchanged, and obtain a reliable separation by considering the gradients as limitations. The effectiveness of our approach is shown in experiments on both synthetic images and real world photos.

With the quick acceleration of cultural exchange and globalization, multi-language annotation for in-theatre movie exhibition is gaining more attention. The existing solution overlays a stack of subtitles in different languages over the movie, for example, the familiar combination of English + local tongue as seen in the cinema today. However, a major drawback of this straightforward piling-up type of solution is that as the required number of languages increases, the subtitle area grows and it may eventually span over the movie contents. An effective multi-language subtitling system without compromising the movie watching experience is therefore highly desired. In this paper, we propose a new Temporal Psychovisual Modulation (TPVM) based solution to the multi-language subtitling problem. TPVM is a new paradigm of information display exploiting the mismatch between high refresh rate of the modern optoelectronic displays and limited temporal resolution of the human visual system (HVS). In this work, we design a simultaneous triple subtitle exhibition system using 2 120 Hz stereoscopic DLP projectors with linear polarization filters and LCD shutter glasses. Wearing different pairs of glasses, the audience can enjoy the movie with 3 optional subtitles without interfering with the audience without the glasses and see the movie directly. Extended experimental results will be given in this paper to justify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed multiple subtitling system.

Heart rate (HR) signal analysis is widely used in the medicine and medical research area. Physical activities (PA) are commonly recognized to greatly affect the changes of heart rate. A method of Evolutionary Neural Network - Neuro-evolution of Augmenting Topologies (NEAT) is used to build a PA-based HR predictor model. Through special coding, crossover and mutation operator, NEAT can implement network topology and connectivity weights evolution simultaneously. The common problem in evolutionary neural network, like competing conventions, how to protect the new innovation are effectively solved. The experimental results demonstrated the application potential of the approach. © 2011 IEEE.

Based on the analysis of color histogram for image retrieval, a new descriptor, bit-plane distribution feature (BPDF), is proposed in this paper. The image is firstly divided into eight bit-planes. Meantime, the Gray code of bit-planes is used to avoid the effect of changes in the intensity values on bit-planes. Then, according to the distribution of each bit-plane, a feature vector is constructed by the first four significant planes which contain most of the structural information of the image. Finally, the Mahalanobis distance is adopted to measure the similarity because of the correlation between the concerned vectors after designing a correlation-weighted matrix. Comparisons are conducted between BPDF and other descriptors. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides more significantly retrieval results than the traditional ones.

Rayleigh fading channel is the foundation of mobile radio channel modeling. This paper summarizes four classes of the simulation models for Rayleigh fading channels based on sum-of-sinusoids by a uniform expression, according to the different definition of the assumed parameters in the expression. Among these parameters, the initial phases should be set as random variables and we conclude three cases of phases' definition. With the help of these discussions, it can be seen that the ergodicity and the stationary can not exist simultaneously when the number of multipath wave is finite. Based on this conclusion, some conditions on an effective channel model are proposed, and these conclusions are useful to model the new effective mobile radio channels.

Abnormality Detection (AD), being the core part of intelligent surveillance systems, is calling for growing research interest due to its importance in providing higher efficiency and labor saving. In this paper, we propose a novel Bayesian Network (BN) based AD method for smart surveillance in scenes containing large scale viewpoint changes without model-relearning. In the proposed AD scheme, Reasoning Layer is introduced into BN to strengthen logical inferences, and a localized Genetic Algorithm (GA) is developed to optimize BN parameters and structure. With the expert knowledge aided BN structure modeling and GA based optimization, the proposed method can provide more robust detection experience with retained accuracy. Experiments on unlearned surveillance test sequences are shown to exhibit the validity of this method.

Facial expressions are considered a reliable indicator in neonatal pain *** paper proposes a new neonatal pain expression recognition method,which utilizes the feature descriptors based on weighted Local Binary Pattern(LBP)and the classifier based on sparse ***,the normalized facial image is described using a feature vector,which is histogram sequence obtained by concatenating the weighted histograms of the LBP maps of all the local ***,the Principal Component Analysis(PCA)method is used to reduce the dimension of the feature ***,the classifier based on sparse representation is applied to classify test sample into four classes of facial expressions:calm,crying,moderate pain,severe *** objective of this study is to assist the clinicians in assessing neonatal pain by utilizing computer-based image analysis *** experimental results on neonate facial image database show the effectiveness of the proposed *** classification accuracy is up to 85.50%.

Community discovery is one of the most important steps to understand the social networks. We propose a hierarchical diffusion method to detect the community structure. Our algorithm is based on the idea that people in different communities usually share less common friends. We also make use of the fact that people usually make decisions based others'choices, especially their friends'. Our algorithm can distinguish between pseudo-communities and meaningful ones. Tests on both classical and synthetic benchmarks show that our algorithm is comparable to state-of-the-art community detection algorithms in both computational complexity and accuracy measured by the so-called normalized mutual information.
