This paper proposes a robust piecewise planar multiview stereo (MVS) approach specifically designed for urban scenes. These architectural scenes are problematic for traditional computer vision methods. In our work, we focus on exploiting some useful constraints of artificial structures such as piecewise coplanarity and boundaries of superpixels. Firstly, we reconstruct quasi-dense 3D point clouds of urban scenes using patches-based MVS (PMVS) method. Secondly, a set of 3D candidate planes are generated by the obtained point clouds without any assumption on the normals of planes, unlike famous Manhattan-world assumption. Then, we segment multi-view images with watershed algorithm and modify the contours of superpixels by the classical Douglas-Peucker approximation algorithm to fit the contours to the boundaries of objects in urban scenes as much as possible. Finally, we use the candidate planes as labels and superpixels as nodes to formulate our Markov Random Field (MRF) optimization problem, then a piecewise planar depth map for each view is recovered by solving the optimization problem using graph-cuts. Experiments show that our method outperforms previous approaches in terms of accuracy. © 2011 IEEE.

In distributed video coding (DVC), efficient compression is achieved by exploiting source statistics at the decoder only, which is radically different from conventional video coding. The pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video coding is a kind of typical distributed video coding scheme, in which the encoder can be very simple and the complexity of the coder is transferred to the decoder. The performance of pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video codec is greatly dependent on quality of side information and reconstruction arithmetic. In this paper we propose an improved method of pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video coding based on side information estimate and decoding reconstruction at the decoder. The results of simulation tests show that better visual quality and average 1.5dB gain can be achieved by applying the proposed method.

Community discovery is one of the most important steps to understand the social networks. We propose a hierarchical diffusion method to detect the community structure. Our algorithm is based on the idea that people in different communities usually share less common friends. We also make use of the fact that people usually make decisions based others' choices, especially their friends'. Our algorithm can distinguish between pseudo-communities and meaningful ones. Tests on both classical and synthetic benchmarks show that our algorithm is comparable to state-of-the-art community detection algorithms in both computational complexity and accuracy measured by the so-called normalized mutual information. © 2010 IEEE.

Diffusion MRI tractography technique enables non-invasive visualization of the white matter pathways in the brain. It plays a crucial role in neuroscience and clinical fields by facilitating the study of brain connectivity and neurological disorders. However, the accuracy of reconstructed tractograms has been a longstanding challenge. Recently, deep learning methods have been applied to improve tractograms for better white matter coverage, but often comes at the expense of generating excessive false-positive connections. This is largely due to their reliance on local information to predict long-range streamlines. To improve the accuracy of streamline propagation predictions, we introduce a novel deep learning framework that integrates image-domain spatial information and anatomical information along tracts, with the former extracted through convolutional layers and the later modeled via a Transformer-decoder. Additionally, we employ a weighted loss function to address fiber class imbalance encountered during training. We evaluate the proposed method on the simulated ISMRM 2015 Tractography Challenge dataset, achieving a valid streamline rate of 66.2%, white matter coverage of 63.8%, and successfully reconstructing 24 out of 25 bundles. Furthermore, on the multi-site Tractoinferno dataset, the proposed method demonstrates its ability to handle various diffusion MRI acquisition schemes, achieving a 5.7% increase in white matter coverage and a 4.1% decrease in overreach compared to RNN-based methods. Cyber-physical System Security for Networked Industrial Processes

Cyber-physical systems(CPSs) are integrations of networks, computation and physical processes, where embedded computing devices continually sense, monitor, and control the physical processes through networks. Networked industrial processes combining internet, real-time computer control systems and industrial processes together are typical CPSs. With the increasingly frequent cyber-attack, security issues have gradually become key problems for CPSs. In this paper, a cyber-physical system security protection approach for networked industrial processes, i.e., industrial CPSs, is proposed. In this approach, attacks are handled layer by layer from general information technology(IT) security protection, to active protection, then to intrusion tolerance and physical security protection. The intrusion tolerance implemented in real-time control systems is the most critical layer because the real time control system directly affects the physical layer. This novel intrusion tolerance scheme with a closed loop defense framework takes into account the special requirements of industrial CPSs. To illustrate the effectiveness of the CPS security protection approach, a networked water level control system is described as a case study in the architecture analysis and design language(AADL) environment. Simulation results show that 3 types of injected attacks can be quickly defended by using the proposed protection approach.

Aiming at the problem of low illumination image color estimation, a method based on white-grey-black block supervision is proposed. The standard swatch is placed in a low illuminance scene to obtain an image, and the white balance function and the three color gradation transformation function are obtained by supervising the white-gray-black block red, green and blue color values of the grayscale decreasing for the low illuminance image. Object color estimation. The experimental results show that subjective vision can accurately determine the color of the object, and the objective index is better evaluated. © 2019 IEEE.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as a non-invasive detection method, is crucial for the clinical diagnosis and treatment plan of rectal cancer. However, due to the low contrast of rectal tumor signal in MRI, segmentation is often inaccurate. In this paper, we propose a new three-dimensional rectal tumor segmentation method CAU-Net based on T2-weighted MRI images. The method adopts a convolutional neural network to extract multi-scale features from MRI images and uses a Contour-Aware decoder and attention fusion block (AFB) for contour enhancement. We also introduce adversarial constraint to improve augmentation performance. Furthermore, we construct a dataset of 108 MRI-T2 volumes for the segmentation of locally advanced rectal cancer. Finally, CAU-Net achieved a DSC of 0.7112 and an ASD of 2.4707, which outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. Various experiments on this dataset show that CAU-Net has high accuracy and efficiency in rectal tumor segmentation. In summary, proposed method has important clinical application value and can provide important support for medical image analysis and clinical treatment of rectal cancer. With further development and application, this method has the potential to improve the accuracy of rectal cancer diagnosis and treatment. © 2025 IPEM

image retrieval based on color features integrated with anisotropic directionality

A novel image retrieval approach based on color features and anisotropic directional information is proposed for content based image retrieval systems （CBIR）. The color feature is described by the color histogram （CH）, which is translation and rotation invariant. However, the CH does not contain spatial information which is very important for the image retrieval. To overcome this shortcoming, the subband energy of the lifting directionlet transform （L-DT） is proposed to describe the directional information, in which L-DT is characterized by multi-direction and anisotropic basis functions compared with the wavelet transform. A global similarity measure is designed to implement the fusion of both color feature and anisotropic directionality for the retrieval process. The retrieval experiments using a set of COREL images demonstrate that the higher query precision and better visual effect can be achieved.

Contour extraction model introducing contrast adaptive characteristics based on visual pathway

Effectively extracting image subject contours holds significant importance for subsequent image processing tasks. Recognizing the pivotal role of contrast features in contour characterization, this paper proposes a novel contour extraction model with contrast adaptive characteristics, inspired by visual perception simulation visual pathways. Firstly, leveraging the color antagonism traits of retinal ganglion cells, we construct a color image contrast calculation model to enhance the representation of visual information contrast. Furthermore, drawing upon the feed-forward impact of the retina on Lateral Geniculate Nucleus (LGN) cells, we introduce a contrast gain control mechanism to extract multi-directional primary contour responses. Secondly, employing the LIF neuron network to simulate the lateral geniculate body's information flow processing mechanism, we encode visual information via pulse firing to eliminate redundant contour details. Then, by considering the primary visual cortex (V1) cell's receptive field size variation with contrast, we devise a contrast-adaptive dynamic receptive field model. Additionally, we develop a texture suppression model based on the orientation/contrast disparity between the receptive field model's center and periphery. Finally, integrating the primary contour response and the image obtained through the inhibition model, we fuse features to derive the final image subject target contour. This study employs the BSDS500 dataset and the RuG40 dataset for experimentation. Comparative analysis against mainstream methods demonstrates our approach's superior ability to retain the main image outline while suppressing non-edge textures, with P-value indicators for contour detection of 0.58 and 0.50, respectively.
