This paper addresses multi-modal depression analysis. We propose a multi-modal fusion framework composed of deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) and deep neural network (DNN) models. Our framework considers audio, video and text streams. For each modality, handcrafted feature descriptors are input into a DCNN to learn high-level global features with compact dynamic information, then the learned features are fed to a DNN to predict the PHQ-8 scores. For multi-modal fusion, the estimated PHQ-8 scores from the three modalities are integrated in a DNN to obtain the final PHQ-8 score. Moreover, in this work, we propose new feature descriptors for text and video. For the text descriptors, we select the participant's answers to the questions associated with psychoanalytic aspects of depression, such as sleep disorder, and make use of the Paragraph Vector (PV) to learn the distributed representations of these sentences. For the video descriptors, we propose a new global descriptor, the Histogram of Displacement Range (HDR), calculated directly from the facial landmarks to measure their displacements and speed. Experiments have been carried out on the AVEC2017 depression sub-challenge dataset. The obtained results show that the proposed depression recognition framework obtains very promising accuracy, with the root mean square error (RMSE) as 4.653, mean absolute error (MAE) as 3.980 on the development set, and RMSE as 5.974, MAE as 5.163 on the test set. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

In this paper, we aim at the AVEC2019 State of Mind Sub-Challenge (SoMS), and propose a multimodal state of mind assessment framework, for valence and arousal, respectively. For valence, sentiment analysis is firstly performed on the English text obtained via German speech recognition and translation to classify the audio visual session into positive/negative narrative. Then each overlapping 60s segment of the session is input into an audio visual SoM assessment model trained for positive/negative narratives. The mean prediction of all the segments is adopted as the final prediction of the audio visual session. For arousal, the first step of positive/negative classification is not performed. For the audio-visual SoM assessment models, we propose to extract the functional features (Function) and VGGish based deep learning features (VGGish) from speech, and the abstract visual features based on convolutional neural network (CNN) from the baseline visual features. For each feature stream, a long short term memory (LSTM) model is trained to predict the valence/ arousal values of a segment, and a support vector regression (SVR) model is adopted for the final decision fusion. Experiments on the USoM dataset show that the model with Function, baseline ResNet features and baseline VGG features obtains promising prediction results for valence, with concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) up to 0.531 on the test set, which is much higher than the baseline result 0.219. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

Disparity estimation is an important technique in stereo video coding. This paper presents a disparity estimation algorithm based on edge detection. The algorithm makes full use of the human visual characteristics, that is, the human eye is more sensitive to the distortion of the edge region. Therefore, joint estimation is used for edge detection. The large code block size for coding the background region and the flat areas while small size for coding the edge region were used in this paper. Compared to the disparity estimation algorithm proposed in 181, the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the encoding speed of stereo video without affecting subjective image quality.

In this paper, we want to strengthen an autonomous vehicle’s lane-change ability with limited lane changes performed by the autonomous system. In other words, our task is bootstrapping the predictability of lane-change feasibility for the autonomous vehicle. Unfortunately, autonomous lane changes happen much less frequently in autonomous runs than in manual-driving runs. Augmented runs serve well in terms of data augmentation: the number of samples generated from augmented runs in a single one is comparable with that of samples retrieved from real runs in a month. In this paper, we formulate the Lane-Change Feasibility Prediction problem and also propose a data-driven learning approach to solve it. Experimental results are also presented to show the effectiveness of learned lane-change patterns for the decision making. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Camera-equipped underwater vehicle-manipulator systems (UVMS) can achieve autonomous underwater operations through visual servoing. However, current methods excessively rely on auxiliary means for target's visual information and do not sufficiently consider the target's pose when designing visual servoing schemes. As a result, UVMS can only perform dynamic positioning or grasp simple-shaped targets like sea urchins. In this article, we are devoted to making the UVMS autonomously complete more complex underwater operations, such as valve switching and pipe handling. First, an underwater target perception system is proposed to address the issue of discontinuous target position estimation caused by various interferences. Second, a deep neural network-based grasping mechanism controller is proposed to enable the manipulator to grasp targets in various initial poses using the target image. Third, a decoupled visual servoing scheme is proposed for the motion control of the UVMS, and in collaboration with a designed task supervisor to ensure that the UVMS can complete the underwater operation autonomously. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods, underwater experiments are conducted based on a UVMS prototype. The UVMS succeeds to autonomously switch different types of valves and handle the pipe. Experiments conducted under dynamic currents validated the reliability and robustness of the proposed methods. © 1996-2012 IEEE.

In this paper,we applied wavelet permutation entropy to analyze the Ventricular Fibrillation(VF) signals and Sudden Cardiac Death(SCD) signals for making an effective distinction from normal sinus rhythm(NSR) ***,three different ECG signals are decomposed by wavelet and reconstructed in each single *** highly discriminated frequency band will be chosen as our target ***,under the circumstances of different series length,embedding dimension and delay time,the main work is to distinguish the three ECG signals in different frequency bands based on the permutation entropy(PE).The results show that permutation entropy method can make a distinction between normal and abnormal ECG signals which aren't decomposed,but the effect of decomposing with wavelets is better *** the highest discriminated frequency band is from 15.625 Hz to 31.25 *** the point of different data length,embedding dimension and delay time,it was found that permutation entropy method have different effects and the findings may assist cardiac clinical diagnosis.

The nonlocal (NL) means filter as a recent denoising approach has demonstrated its empirical merit for additive Gaussian noise. In this paper, a novel Bayesian nonlocal (BNL) means filter is derived, which is adapted to the multiplicative speckle noise. The new filter is better parameterized using the Bayesian framework, in which a new statistical distance is introduced to measure the similarity of speckled patches. The proposed method is validated on real synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images through comparisons with other classical despeckling methods. ©2009 IEEE.

In this paper, a new change detection method based on image segmentation and fusion in multi-temporal SAR image is presented. The proposed fusion method exploits the conditional probability of difference image to two original images to fuse the segment results of two original SAR images. The new method can be divided into four steps: 1) the original SAR images are segmented into two classes using the proposed segmentation method based on canny edge match. 2) The two segmentation result images are fused with conditional probability rule and a fusion difference image considering spatial context is obtained. 3) The fusion image is thresholded with OTSU threshold, and the initial change detection result is obtained. 4) With subtraction operation and absolute operation between two segment results of original SAR images, a Boolean image with 0 and 1 value is obtained. Then the change detection result is composed of the regions in the Boolean image corresponding to the change regions in the initial change detection result. Experimental results obtained on simulate and real SAR images confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach. ©2009 IEEE.

The H approach is used for the clearance of flight control laws when some parameters in the flight control system vary in a certain range. The proposed H approach is developed from general H theory and is applied to the clearance of a flight control law for a missile. Based on bounded real lemma, two theorems about clearance are deduced, and the clearance problem is transformed to a general linear matrix inequality problem. A BTT missile is chosen as an example to test the proposed method. The simulation result shows that the proposed method is convenient and efficient. © 2012 Huazhong Univ of Sci & Tec.
