The restoration quality of a motion-blurred image is highly dependent on the estimation accuracy of the motion blurring parameter. This manuscript presents a novel and precise method for estimation of the motion blurring length, wherein the ringing artifact amount of a deblurred image is measured by energy proportion contained in appropriate frequency bands, and a blurring length with minimum ringing artifact amount is taken as the optimal estimation of the true blurring length. Experimental results show good performance of the proposed algorithm in motion blurring length estimation.

This paper proposes a novel algorithm for simultaneous estimation of the bias field and segmentation of tissues for magnetic resonance images. The algorithm formulated by modifying the objective function in the fuzzy C-means algorithm to include a bias field which is modeled as a linear combination of a set of basis functions. Bias field estimation and image segmentation are simultaneously achieved as the result of minimizing this modified fuzzy C-means objective function. The iterative algorithm for objective function minimization we provide converges to the optimal solution at a fast rate. The outstanding advantages of our method are that its result is independent from initialization, which allows robust and fully automated application and the superior performance compared with other methods. The proposed method has been successfully applied to 3-Tesla MR images and got desirable results.

Using Active Appearance Model to detect driver fatigue has been proposed in past research. This paper proposes a rapid method of driver fatigue detection by applying Active Appearance Model with simplified landmarks only around eyes, and also proposes to convert the eye contour aspect ratio into PERCLOS to judge the degree of the driver fatigue. Compared to the original method, this method reduces redundant facial texture information, and accelerates the speed of eye state detection while improving detection accuracy rate of driver fatigue. The experiments results show that this method is fast and effective that can be used in real-time detection.
