In this paper, a face recognition method using local qualitative representations is proposed to solve the problem of face recognition in varying lighting. Based on the observation that the ordinal relationship between the average brightness of image regions pair is invariant under lighting changes, Local Binary Mapping is defined as an illumination invariant for face recognition based on Local Binary Pattern descriptor, which extracts the local variance features of an image. For the 'symbol' feature vector, hamming distance is used as similarity measurement. It has been proved that the proposed method can provide the accuracy of 100 percent for subset 2, 3, 4 and 98.89 percent for subset 5 of the Yale facial database B when all images in subset 1 are used as gallery.

In this paper, a semi-fragile watermark solution based on quantization index modulation in the wavelet region was proposed. The algorithm employs a compressed halftoned binary image as watermark and embeds it in the wavelet domain through quantization index modulation, which can not only identify the authenticity of the content of digital image, but also recover the tampered image approximately. Because the watermark is a low-resolution original image, which carries the original image information, so the original image is not required when authenticating, and the tampered region can be recovered according to the watermark. The method can tolerate a certain degree of compression distortion or noise. Beside, a secret key is used to select the embedded watermark bits and their embedded positions to increase the security of watermarking. Experimental results show this semi-fragile watermarking algorithm is effective and practical for content authentication. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Owing to the weaknesses of existing correlation detection methods in digital fingerprint matching, such as difficult to determine the threshold and low matching accuracy rate, a method proposed in digital fingerprint matching based on synergetic, which was applied in pattern recognition. Then, the experimental result indicated that the method proposed in the paper has a high matching rate. ©2009 IEEE.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia, and early diagnosis is crucial for delaying and treating AD. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), a widely used medical imaging technique, offers rich temporal and spatial data, which has led researchers to explore various feature extraction methods based on rs-fMRI images for AD identification. However, the related work still suffers from insufficient utilization of temporal and spatial information which leads to unsatisfactory early diagnosis. In this study, we propose a dual-branch fusion model to extract spatial-temporal features from rs-fMRI images. Our proposed model can extract temporal features at different levels. We developed a Class Activation Sequence (CAS) branch, which is a structure that emphasizes the function of each temporal node throughout the whole time series. Additionally, we created a time-domain local branch for local feature extraction. Further, we designed a fusion module for the model to describe temporal contextual relationships and fuse features at various levels. We tested the performance of the model on the ADNI dataset, and the experimental results show that compared with other algorithms, the dual-branch fusion model achieves higher classification accuracy on several classification tasks including early diagnosis, which proves the advantage of the dual-branch fusion model in temporal and spatial feature extraction for rs-fMRI images, and our work also provides a foundation for the temporal domain characterization of rs-fMRI images. © 2024 IEEE.

Instrument display panel is one of the most important parts of automobiles. Automatic detection of LED signal lamps is critical to ensure the reliability of automobile systems. In this paper, an automatic detection method was developed which is composed of three parts in the automatic detection: the shape of LED lamps, the color of LED lamps, and defect spots inside the lamps. More than hundreds of fascias were detected with the automatic detection algorithm. The speed of the algorithm is quite fast and satisfied with the real-time request of the system. Further, the detection result was demonstrated to be stable and accurate. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

This study introduces an innovative approach for gesture recognition in smart wearable devices using a deep domain adaptation model, focusing on the challenges posed by heterogeneous user environments and the need for precise, adaptable, and personalized gesture recognition systems. Traditional methods based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, while effective, struggle with the variance in data distribution among different users, leading to accuracy challenges. To address this, the study proposes the Domain Kernel-Alignment Adaptation Network (DKAN) model, utilizing a new Kernel-Aligned Multi-kernel Maximum Mean Discrepancy (KAMMD) method within deep networks. By calculating kernel alignments between source and target domains and adjusting weights of Gaussian kernels accordingly, DKAN emphasizes features conducive to transfer learning, enabling more accurate cross-user gesture recognition. The model achieves a significant average accuracy of 97.3% across 21 gestures, highlighting its potential in practical applications. This advancement addresses challenges in traditional gesture recognition methods and sets a new direction for future research in smart wearable technology. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an imaging system which provides high-resolution images of earth surface. Nowadays there is an ever-growing interest in the SAR data compression because of the huge resources which require for storage and transmission. In this paper, we address the problem of SAR image compression and apply the multiscale Bandelet with adaptive quadtree partition to solve it. Because Bandelet can provide an efficient representation of geometric structures existed in images, the Bandelet based method can capture abundant textures in SAR images. Moreover, the multiscale Bandelet with adaptive quadtree partition can approximate any piecewise Cα-regular functions when α is unknown, so Bandelet can represent the hierarchy textures of SAR images efficiently. Embedded Block Coding with Optimal Truncation (EBCOT) coding algorithm is employed in our proposed method. Experimental results show that our method outperforms JPEG2000 and the second generation Bandelet (2G-Bandelet) compression methods on SAR image encoding at low bit rates. ©2009 IEEE.

A fast object detection method based on object region dissimilarity and 1-D AGADM(one dimensional average gray absolute difference maximum) between object and background isproposed for real-time defection of small offshore targets. Then computational complexity, antinoiseperformance, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain between original images and their results as afunction of SNR of original images and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve are analyzed andcompared with those existing methods of small target detection such as two dimensional average grayabsolute difference maximum (2-D AGADM), median contrast filter algorithm and multi-level filteralgorithm. Experimental results and theoretical analysis have shown that the proposed method hasfaster speed and more adaptability to small object shape and also yields improved SNR performance.

In this paper, an optimal guidance algorithm is proposed for atmospheric ascent. The optimal guidance algorithm updates the reference trajectory to deal with the impact of disturbance by solving an optimal control problem on-board. For the strong nonlinear ascent dynamic, the optimal control problem is transformed into nonlinear programming problem by trajectory discretization. The direct optimization method is implemented for this nonlinear programming problem. Only a segment of the reference trajectory is updated by the optimal guidance algorithm. Due to the small amount of the discrete nodes and the initial guess solution which is close to the optimization solution, the direct optimization method is fast enough to generate a new reference trajectory. Numerical simulation for the Generic Hypersonic Vehicle model and scramjet engine is done for different cases of the aerodynamic coefficient bias. The results show the accuracy and the effectiveness of this optimal guidance algorithm. © 2012 Huazhong Univ of Sci & Tec.

This paper presents a new approach for norm bounded continuous-time uncertain switch systems such as BTT vehicle. Firstly, the flight trajectory has been divided into several intervals according to flight attitude. Meanwhile, the nominal model could be obtained. Secondly, based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI), combining the guaranteed cost control theory, the state feedback guaranteed cost control law is proposed. Then, to reduce the external disadvantage influence on vehicle, the RBF-NN is used to compensate the intensive aerodynamic disturbance. Finally, taking BTT vehicle as the research objective, the final results of the simulation are proved with effectiveness for the proposed design approach. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
