AN ADAPTIVE MEMBRANE ALGORITHM FOR SOLVING COMBINATORIAL OPTIMIZATION PROBLEMS

Membrane algorithms （MAs）, which inherit from P systems, constitute a new parallel and distribute framework for approximate computation. In the paper, a membrane algorithm is proposed with the improvement that the involved parameters can be adaptively chosen. In the algorithm, some membranes can evolve dynamically during the computing process to specify the values of the requested parameters. The new algorithm is tested on a well-known combinatorial optimization problem, the travelling salesman problem. The em-pirical evidence suggests that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable when dealing with 11 benchmark instances, particularly obtaining the best of the known solutions in eight instances. Compared with the genetic algorithm, simulated annealing algorithm, neural net-work and a fine-tuned non-adaptive membrane algorithm, our algorithm performs better than them. In practice, to design the airline network that minimize the total routing cost on the CAB data with twenty-five US cities, we can quickly obtain high quality solutions using our algorithm.

Structure-free containment control for uncertain underactuated multiple Euler-Lagrange systems

This article studies the problem of structure-free distributed containment control for uncertain underactuated multiple Euler-Lagrange systems(MELSs) considering disturbances by using a layered approach. First, the second layer is the virtual layer constructed artificially for hierarchical control. We move all virtual nodes to the convex hull formed by leaders in the first layer by implementing containment control algorithms on all virtual nodes. Then, the third layer is the following layer, and we propose an adaptive robust tracking controller to ensure that each follower in the third layer tracks the corresponding virtual node in the second layer. So far, the underactuated MELSs can achieve containment control. Furthermore,through the theoretical derivation, sufficient conditions are obtained to achieve the objective of structure-free containment control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed stratified structure-free containment control method is verified by a simulation example.

Mem Brain: An Easy-to-Use Online Webserver for Transmembrane Protein Structure Prediction

Membrane proteins are an important kind of proteins embedded in the membranes of cells and play crucial roles in living organisms, such as ion channels,transporters, receptors. Because it is difficult to determinate the membrane protein's structure by wet-lab experiments,accurate and fast amino acid sequence-based computational methods are highly desired. In this paper, we report an online prediction tool called Mem Brain, whose input is the amino acid sequence. Mem Brain consists of specialized modules for predicting transmembrane helices, residue–residue contacts and relative accessible surface area of a-helical membrane proteins. Mem Brain achieves aprediction accuracy of 97.9% of ATMH, 87.1% of AP,3.2 ± 3.0 of N-score, 3.1 ± 2.8 of C-score. Mem BrainContact obtains 62%/64.1% prediction accuracy on training and independent dataset on top L/5 contact prediction,respectively. And Mem Brain-Rasa achieves Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.733 and its mean absolute error of13.593. EmotionIC: emotional inertia and contagion-driven dependency modeling for emotion recognition in conversation

Emotion recognition in conversation(ERC) has attracted growing attention in recent years as a result of the advancement and implementation of human-computer interface technologies. In this paper,we propose an emotional inertia and contagion-driven dependency modeling approach(EmotionIC) for ERC tasks. Our EmotionIC consists of three main components, i.e., identity masked multi-head attention(IMMHA), dialogue-based gated recurrent unit(DiaGRU), and skip-chain conditional random field(SkipCRF).Compared to previous ERC models, EmotionIC can model a conversation more thoroughly at both the feature-extraction and classification levels. The proposed model attempts to integrate the advantages of attention-and recurrence-based methods at the feature-extraction level. Specifically, IMMHA is applied to capture identity-based global contextual dependencies, while Dia GRU is utilized to extract speaker-and temporal-aware local contextual information. At the classification level, SkipCRF can explicitly mine complex emotional flows from higher-order neighboring utterances in the conversation. Experimental results show that our method can significantly outperform the state-of-the-art models on four benchmark *** ablation studies confirm that our modules can effectively model emotional inertia and contagion.

Changes in brain functional network connectivity after stroke

Studies have shown that functional network connection models can be used to study brain net- work changes in patients with schizophrenia. In this study, we inferred that these models could also be used to explore functional network connectivity changes in stroke patients. We used independent component analysis to find the motor areas of stroke patients, which is a novel way to determine these areas. In this study, we collected functional magnetic resonance imaging datasets from healthy controls and right-handed stroke patients following their first ever stroke. Using independent component analysis, six spatially independent components highly correlat- ed to the experimental paradigm were extracted. Then, the functional network connectivity of both patients and controls was established to observe the differences between them. The results showed that there were 11 connections in the model in the stroke patients, while there were only four connections in the healthy controls. Further analysis found that some damaged connections may be compensated for by new indirect connections or circuits produced after stroke. These connections may have a direct correlation with the degree of stroke rehabilitation. Our findings suggest that functional network connectivity in stroke patients is more complex than that in hea- lthy controls, and that there is a compensation loop in the functional network following stroke. This implies that functional network reorganization plays a very important role in the process of rehabilitation after stroke.

Immunodominance and clonal selection inspired multiobjective clustering

The biological immune system is a highly parallel and distributed adaptive system. The information processing abilities of the immune system provide important insights into the field of computation. Based on immunodominance in the biological immune system and the clonal selection mechanism, a novel data mining method, Immune Dominance Clonal Multiobjective Clustering algorithm (IDCMC), is presented. The algorithm divides an individual population into three sub-populations according to three different measurements, and adopts different evolution and selection strategies for each sub-population. The update of each sub-population, however, is not carried out in isolation. The periodic combination operation of the analysis of the three sub-populations represents considerable advantages in its global search ability. The clustering task is a multiobjective optimization problem, which is more robust with respect to the variety of cluster structures of different datasets than a single-objective clustering algorithm. In addition, the new algorithm can determine the number of clusters automatically, which should identify the most promising clustering solutions in the candidate set. The experimental results, using artificial datasets with different manifold structure and handwritten digit datasets, show that the IDCMC outperforms the PESA-Ⅱ-based clustering method, the genetic algorithm-based clustering technique and the original K-Means algorithm in solving most of the problems tested.

The quantum-inspired immune clonal algorithm(QICA) is a rising intelligence *** on evolutionary game theory and QICA,a quantum-inspired immune algorithm embedded with evolutionary game(EGQICA) is proposed to solve combination optimization *** this paper,we map the quantum antibody’s finding the optimal solution to player’s pursuing maximum utility by choosing strategies in evolutionary *** dynamics is used to model the behavior of the quantum antibody and the memory mechanism is also introduced in this *** results indicate that the proposed approach maintains a good diversity and achieves superior performance.

Research on a novel restoration algorithm of turbulence-degraded images with alternant iterations

A new restoration algorithm based on double loops and alternant iterations is proposed to restore the object image effectively from a few frames of turbulence-degraded images, Based on the double loops, the iterative relations for estimating the turbulent point spread function PSF and object image alternately are derived. The restoration experiments have been made on computers, showing that the proposed algorithm can obtain the optimal estimations of the object and the point spread function, with the feasibility and practicality of the proposed algorithm being convincing.

TSPT: Two-Step Prompt Tuning for class-incremental novel class discovery

In real-world applications, models often encounter a sequence of unlabeled new tasks, each containing unknown classes. This paper explores class-incremental novel class discovery (class-iNCD), which requires maintaining previously learned knowledge while discovering novel classes. We consider a more realistic and also more challenging scenario, which has a small number of initial known classes and a large number of unlabeled tasks, with the additional requirement of data privacy protection. A simple yet effective approach, Two-Step Prompt Tuning (TSPT), is proposed. TSPT tackles class-iNCD through prompt tuning, which is rehearsal-free and plug-and-play, protecting data privacy and significantly reducing the number of trainable parameters. TSPT consists of two main steps: (1) novel class discovery, which initializes the classifier using uniform clustering, and uses intra- and inter-sample consistency learning to discover novel classes;and, (2) knowledge fusion, where the prompt learned in the previous step is adapted as task-specific prompt, and additional optimal prompts are selected from a prompt pool to integrate knowledge from both old and new classes. Experiments on three datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of TSPT. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.
