Observation-Guided Meteorological Field Downscaling at Station Scale: A Benchmark and a New Method

Downscaling (DS) of meteorological variables involves obtaining high-resolution states from low-resolution meteorological fields and is an important task in weather forecasting. Previous methods based on deep learning treat downscaling as a super-resolution task in computer vision and utilize high-resolution gridded meteorological fields as supervision to improve resolution at specific grid scales. However, this approach has struggled to align with the continuous distribution characteristics of meteorological fields, leading to an inherent systematic bias between the downscaled results and the actual observations at meteorological stations. In this paper, we extend meteorological downscaling to arbitrary scattered station scales, establish a brand new benchmark and dataset, and retrieve meteorological states at any given station location from a coarse-resolution meteorological field. Inspired by data assimilation techniques, we integrate observational data into the downscaling process, providing multi-scale observational priors. Building on this foundation, we propose a new downscaling model based on hypernetwork architecture, namely HyperDS, which efficiently integrates different observational information into the model training, achieving continuous scale modeling of the meteorological field. Through extensive experiments, our proposed method outperforms other specially designed baseline models on multiple surface variables. Notably, the mean squared error (MSE) for wind speed and surface pressure improved by 67% and 19.5% compared to other methods. We will release the dataset and code subsequently. image dehazing is an important research topic and hotspot in the fields of image processing and computer vision. Therefore, evaluating the performance of image dehazing algorithms has become an import research issue. However, current image quality assessment (IQA) algorithms only judge the final dehazed image and do not give an analysis of the capabilities of the image dehazing algorithm. In order to fill this gap, we propose an image dehazing quality assessment method that integrated the dark channel prior with image depth estimation. The proposed method first uses the dark channel prior to estimate the absolute amount of haze removed from each pixel as an indication of the performance of dehazing. Then, a dual-scale variance ratio method is introduced to estimate the scene depth of the image. Finally, the relative dehazing is calculated from the obtained absolute dehazing and the image depth to represent the capability of the dehazing algorithm. The method proposed in this paper first introduces the concepts of relative and absolute dehazing quantities, along with pioneering a pixel-level evaluation of dehazing outcomes. Extensive experiments show that the algorithm proposed in this paper is more in line with human subjective judgment than other IQA algorithms. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most common and non-invasive auxiliary diagnostic technique for heart disease. However, the ECG signal is susceptible to various noises during the collection process, which will impact subsequent analysis and diagnosis. Therefore, ECG signal denoising has become the primary task after signal acquisition. ECG signal denoising aims to remove noise interference from the collected noisy signals for clarify abnormal waveforms in it, and thus diagnose diseases more accurately. In this paper, to obtain high-quality and high-fidelity denoised ECG signals, we propose a novel diffusion model with self-attention module for ECG signal denoising (DMAM-ECG). Specifically, the DMAM-ECG contains two main branches used to extract features of input noise signal observations and potential variables, respectively. Each branch consists of 6 designed Convolution-Instancenormal-LeakyReLU Filter Blocks (CIL-Filter Blocks). Meanwhile, DMAM-ECG introduces the self-Attention Module Fusion Blocks (SAM-Fusion Blocks) to further extract features for the first branch, and then fuse the output features with the second branch. Besides, we use a multi-shot reconstruction strategy to further improve signal denoising. Quantitative and qualitative results on the QT database show that the proposed DMAM-ECG performs better than the existing 5 state-of-the-art ECG signal denoising methods, especially for strong noise interference ECG signal removal. To sum up, our DMAM-ECG introduces self-attention module into the diffusion model to improve the grasp of global information and achieve high-quality information preservation for extremely noise removal of ECG signal. In particular, it uses only 3-shot reconstruction gets much better denoised results than that of the best baseline with 10-shot. Sparse canonical correlation analysis (CCA) is a useful statistical tool to detect latent information with sparse structures. However, sparse CCA works only for two datasets, i.e., there are only two views or two distinct objects. To overcome this limitation, in this paper, we propose a sparse generalized canonical correlation analysis (GCCA), which could detect the latent relations of multiview data with sparse structures. Moreover, the introduced sparsity could be considered as Laplace prior on the canonical variates. Specifically, we convert the GCCA into a linear system of equations and impose 1 minimization penalty for sparsity pursuit. This results in a nonconvex problem on Stiefel manifold, which is difficult to solve. Motivated by Boyd’s consensus problem, an algorithm based on distributed alternating iteration approach is developed and theoretical consistency analysis is investigated elaborately under mild conditions. Metric Learning Based Rolling Bearing Faults Diagnosis with Curvelet Transform

Rolling bearing faults are among the primary causes of breakdown in mechanical equipment. Aiming at the vibration signals of rolling bearing which are non-stationary and easy to be disturbed by noise, a novel fault diagnosis method based on curvelet transform and metric learning is proposed. This method consists of 3 parts. The first one is feature engineering which includes reshaping the original timing features of rolling bearings, employing curvelet transform to transform reshaped features and making its coefficients as the new features. Curvelet transform can analyse the original signal from many angles. The second one is employing metric learning to map these new features into special embedding space. The last one is applying KNN classifier to detect the rolling bearing faults. Metric learning can effectively improve the performance of KNN by learning a mapping matrix to modify the distribution of samples. The proposed method overcomes the problems such as the subjectivity and blindness of manual feature extraction, poor coupling in each stage and sensitive to the effect of noise. Extensive simulations based on several data-sets show that the our method has better performance on bearing fault diagnosis than traditional methods.

The utilization of large-scale distributed renewable energy promotes the development of the multi-microgrid (MMG), which raises the need of developing an effective energy management method to minimize economic costs and keep self energy-sufficiency. The multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) has been widely used for the energy management problem because of its real-time scheduling ability. However, its training requires massive energy operation data of microgrids (MGs), while gathering these data from different MGs would threaten their privacy and data security. Therefore, this paper tackles this practical yet challenging issue by proposing a federated multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (F-MADRL) algorithm via the physics-informed reward. In this algorithm, the federated learning (FL) mechanism is introduced to train the F-MADRL algorithm thus ensures the privacy and the security of data. In addition, a decentralized MMG model is built, and the energy of each participated MG is managed by an agent, which aims to minimize economic costs and keep self energy-sufficiency according to the physics-informed reward. At first, MGs individually execute the self-training based on local energy operation data to train their local agent models. Then, these local models are periodically uploaded to a server and their parameters are aggregated to build a global agent, which will be broadcasted to MGs and replace their local agents. In this way, the experience of each MG agent can be shared and the energy operation data is not explicitly transmitted, thus protecting the privacy and ensuring data security. Finally, experiments are conducted on Oak Ridge national laboratory distributed energy control communication lab microgrid (ORNL-MG) test system, and the comparisons are carried out to verify the effectiveness of introducing the FL mechanism and the outperformance of our proposed F-MADRL. DNA-based data storage has been attracting significant attention due to its extremely high data storage density, low power consumption, and long duration compared to conventional data storage media. Despite the recent advancements in DNA data storage technology, significant challenges remain. In particular, various types of errors can occur during the processes of DNA synthesis, storage, and sequencing, including substitution errors, insertion errors, and deletion errors. Furthermore, the entire oligo may be lost. In this work, we report a DNA-based data storage architecture that incorporates efficient channel coding schemes, including different types of error-correcting codes (ECCs) and constrained codes, for both the inner coding and outer coding for the DNA data storage channel. We also carried out large scale experiments to validate our proposed DNA-based data storage architecture. Specifically, 1.61 and 1.69 MB data were encoded into 30,000 oligos each, with information densities of 1.731 and 1.815, respectively. It has been found that the stored information can be fully recovered without any error at average coverages of 4.5 and 6.0, respectively. This experiment achieved the highest net information density and lowest coverage among existing DNA-based data storage experiments (with standard DNA), with data recovery rates and coverage approaching theoretical optima. Currently, screen content video applications are increasingly widespread in our daily lives. The latest Screen Content Coding (SCC) standard, known as Versatile Video Coding (VVC) SCC, employs screen content Coding Modes (CMs) selection. While VVC SCC achieves high coding efficiency, its coding complexity poses a significant obstacle to the further widespread adoption of screen content video. Hence, it is crucial to enhance the coding speed of VVC SCC. In this paper, we propose a fast mode and splitting decision for Intra prediction in VVC SCC. Specifically, we initially exploit deep learning techniques to predict content types for all CUs. Subsequently, we examine CM distributions of different content types to predict candidate CMs for CUs. We then introduce early skip and early terminate CM decisions for different content types of CUs to further eliminate unlikely CMs. Finally, we develop Block-based Differential Pulse-Code Modulation (BDPCM) early termination to improve coding speed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve coding speed by $34.95 \%$ on average while maintaining almost the same coding efficiency.

In recent years, significant advancements have been made in the field of anomaly detection. Expanding anomaly detection tasks to new scenarios has become a development avenue. Anomaly detection for the outer packaging of supermarket goods is a challenging task due to the diversity of goods’ appearances, which results in some detection methods suffering from limited sensitivity to anomalies and inadequate target mining. To address these issues, we propose a novel unsupervised anomaly detection method based on multi-branch feature extraction and foreground cosine structure mining strategy. Firstly, we use anomaly synthesis technique to enhance the model’s perception of anomalies and construct more precise decision boundaries in the feature space. Secondly, a multi-branch feature extractor extracts and integrates multi-level and multi-scale features, providing rich texture and semantic information to improve the model’s adaptability in real-world scenarios. Finally, the foreground cosine loss focuses on target mining while supplementing local structural information, further enhancing the model’s ability to detect subtle anomalies. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, extensive experiments were conducted on the GoodsAD dataset, sampled from supermarket scenarios. Experimental results show that this method achieves significant performance in image-level detection and pixel-level localization.
