The earth observation satellite scheduling has always been critical for the maximum use of limited satellite resources, which basically includes scheduling ground target observation and observation data downloading. Due to the complexity of the mathematical model and its NP-hardness, current research usually splits it into two problems to simplify the model. In this paper, we propose a model of the integrated scheduling problem of satellite observation and data downloading (ISP-SODD) based on the decentralized partially observable Markov decision process (Dec-POMDP), treating each satellite as an agent with autonomous decision-making capability. A multi-agent deep reinforcement learning-based (MADRL-based) algorithm is proposed to solve it. A series of simulation experiments of different scales validate the effectiveness of the method and its advantages compared with the traditional heuristic algorithms. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first attempt to apply multi-agent reinforcement learning to a multi-satellite scheduling scenario with downloading considerations.

Estimating the pose information on moving vehi-cles is one of the most fundamental functions of autonomous driving for detecting and tracking moving objects. The current methods are often based on the prior information of the point cloud distribution, however, the distribution in the actual scene changes dynamically, and is easy not to meet a priori. This paper proposes a 3D pose estimation method based on heuristic rules. In a single frame point cloud, the edge length and edge visibility are used to heuristically screen the candidate orientations established by the convex hull sampling method. On consecutive frame point clouds, tracking heuristics are employed to obtain smoother orientation estimation results. The experimental results on the KITTI dataset and the data from the actual scene of vehicles show that the proposed method reduces the average object-orientation error and improves the accuracy of estimation effectively. © 2022 IEEE.

Data-free knowledge distillation aims to learn a compact student network from a pre-trained large teacher network without using the original training data of the teacher network. Existing collection-based and generation-based methods train student networks by collecting massive real examples and generating synthetic examples, respectively. However, they inevitably become weak in practical scenarios due to the difficulties in gathering or emulating sufficient real-world data. To solve this problem, we propose a novel method called Hybrid Data-Free Distillation (HiDFD), which leverages only a small amount of collected data as well as generates sufficient examples for training student networks. Our HiDFD comprises two primary modules, i.e., the teacher-guided generation and student distillation. The teacher-guided generation module guides a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) by the teacher network to produce high-quality synthetic examples from very few real-world collected examples. Specifically, we design a feature integration mechanism to prevent the GAN from overfitting and facilitate the reliable representation learning from the teacher network. Meanwhile, we drive a category frequency smoothing technique via the teacher network to balance the generative training of each category. In the student distillation module, we explore a data inflation strategy to properly utilize a blend of real and synthetic data to train the student network via a classifier-sharing-based feature alignment technique. Intensive experiments across multiple benchmarks demonstrate that our HiDFD can achieve state-of-the-art performance using 120 times less collected data than existing methods. TCP ensures reliable transmission through its stateful implementation and remains crucial today. TCP performance profiling is essential for tasks like diagnosing network performance problems, optimizing transmission performance, and developing new TCP variants, etc. Existing profiling methods lack enough attention to TCP state transition to provide detailed insights on TCP performance. Thus, we build TcpSight, a tool focusing on TCP state transition throughout connection lifetimes. TcpSight conducts stateful analysis by capturing key events using an efficient per-connection lock-free data management mechanism. Besides, TcpSight enhances profiling by integrating application layer information collected from the TCP stack. With the profiling results, users can identify the culprit of TCP performance degradation, and evaluate the performance of TCP algorithms. We design optional modules and filtering mechanisms to reduce TcpSights overhead. Our evaluation presents that TcpSight incurs an additional CPU consumption of about 16.6% (without filtering) and 10.6% (with filtering) when the server's load is 55.7%, and generates storage consumption about 1.88 KB per connection on average. We also give application cases of TcpSight and the deployment experiences in Alibaba Cloud. TcpSight helps in revealing meaningful findings and insights into exploiting TCP in the production deployment. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

How to represent the temporal information corresponding to each fact in temporal knowledge graphs (TKGs) effectively is always challenging. Most existing representation learning methods usually map the timelines of knowledges into multiple points and ignore the underlying continuous time property and periodic characteristics behind those dense timestamps in finer-time granularity temporal knowledge graphs. A novel Knowledge Evolution with Time Duration (KETD) model is proposed for knowledge representation of temporal knowledge graphs with finer-time granularities. It represents the entity embedding as a time-varying nonlinear function to find the specific continuous time property from dense timestamps. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first attempt to learn embeddings of time durations and combines them into embeddings of entities and relations to predict potential periodic facts. It also uses the temporal point process to capture the impact of historical facts on the current fact. The experiments on self-built finer-time granularity TKG of Satellite-to-Earth Communication (STEC) and two public datasets have demonstrated the superiority of KETD compared to some baseline approaches.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2

A brain-computer interface (BCI) establishes a direct communication pathway between the brain and an external device. Electroencephalogram (EEG) is the most popular input signal in BCIs, due to its convenience and low cost. Most research on EEG-based BCIs focuses on the accurate decoding of EEG signals;however, EEG signals also contain rich private information, e.g., user identity, emotion, and so on, which should be protected. This paper first exposes a serious privacy problem in EEG-based BCIs, i.e., the user identity in EEG data can be easily learned so that different sessions of EEG data from the same user can be associated together to more reliably mine private information. To address this issue, we further propose two approaches to convert the original EEG data into identity-unlearnable EEG data, i.e., removing the user identity information while maintaining the good performance on the primary BCI task. Experiments on seven EEG datasets from five different BCI paradigms showed that on average the generated identity-unlearnable EEG data can reduce the user identification accuracy from 70.01% to at most 21.36%, greatly facilitating user privacy protection in EEG-based BCIs. © 2024, CC BY.

Named entity recognition is a core task in the field of information extraction, which aims to recognize a relevant entity from unstructured text and classify that entity. Aiming at the problem that existing nested named entity recognition models cannot achieve better compatibility in recognizing long entities and the performance of the models, this study proposes a nested named entity recognition model based on knowledge fusion and boundary feature sharing. First, a joint training network based on the concepts of lexicon and knowledge graph is constructed to improve the text feature representation to obtain richer contextual information; second, the bimodal attention mechanism is used to capture the semantic correlation between lexical items and generate the spanning semantic representation matrix; furthermore, the boundary feature sharing strategy is designed to improve the generalization ability of the model for the rough transition problem of entity spanning boundaries. To verify the effectiveness of the model, it is tested on three benchmark datasets, including ACE2004, ACE2005, and SciERC datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the corresponding baseline model in terms of entity recognition F1 index.

Cross-Modal De-Deviation for Enhancing Few-Shot Classification

Few-shot learning poses a critical challenge due to the deviation problem caused by the scarcity of available samples. In this work, we aim to address deviations in both feature representations and prototypes. To achieve this, we propose a cross-modal de-deviation framework that leverages class semantic information to provide robust prior knowledge for the samples. This framework begins with a visual-to-semantic autoencoder trained on the labeled samples to predict semantic features for the unlabeled samples. Then, we devise a binary linear programming model to incorporate the initial prototypes with the cluster centers of the unlabeled samples. To avoid mismatch between the cluster centers and the initial prototypes, we conduct the label assignment process in the semantic space using the class ground truth semantic features as the reference points, with the cluster centers transformed into semantic representations. Moreover, we model a linear classifier with the concatenation of the refined prototypes and the class ground truth semantic features serving as the initial weights. Then we propose a novel optimization strategy based on the alternating least squares (ALS) model. From the ALS model, we can derive two closed-form solutions regarding to the features and weights, facilitating alternative optimization of them. Extensive experiments conducted on three standard benchmarks demonstrate the competitive advantages of our CMDD method over the state-of-the-art few-shot classification methods, confirming its effectiveness in reducing deviation. © 2023, The Authors. To investigate the difference in uptake pattern heterogeneity between fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI) PET/CT and the reproducibility of radiomics features with respect to different calculation methods of standardized uptake value (SUV). 210 patients with various tumors were involved. Among the extracted 497 radiomics features, there are only 20 features that exhibited an ICC difference of more than 0.25 between the two tracers when using different SUV calculation methods, revealing the similar influence of SUV calculation methods. In contrast, the ICC values for most texture features were generally lower (0.22-0.39) between FDG and FAPI PET images, indicating a large difference in uptake pattern heterogeneity between the two tracers. Our results demonstrated that the influence of SUV calculation methods on the reproducibility of FDG and FAPI PET features is similar. The uptake pattern heterogeneity characterized by radiomics features between FDG and FAPI PET images is significantly different.
